3 A Note From The Pastor Last Sunday evening the Easter Season ended, and now we are in Ordinary Time un l Sunday, December 2nd, the First Sunday of Advent. However, we do have two Sunday celebra ons which always follow immediately upon the close of the Easter Season: The Most Holy Trinity (this Sunday), and Corpus Chris (The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, next Sunday). To celebrate Corpus Chris, we will have a Holy Hour next Sunday, June 3rd, at 7PM in the Church. This Monday we celebrate Memorial Day: It s a day when we should thank God for the men and women who have given their lives so that we might have freedom. May God grant eternal rest to them, and provide comfort to families mourning the loss of a loved one who served our country. We will have a special Memorial Day Mass at 8AM on this Monday, May 28th. This Thursday, May 31st, is the last full day of school for OLH. Summer vaca on should be a me of extra leisure, to focus on faith, family, and friends. Regarding faith, consider spending more me in prayer with the Lord, and doing spiritual reading, maybe reading the Bible, a biography of Jesus, or the life or wri ngs of one of the saints. Don t let this summer go by without recharging your faith and rela onships. All priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago will gather together the week of Monday, June 18th, to pray together, to renew and refresh our spirits, and to reconnect with one another. Unless I can find a subs tute, there will be no 8AM weekday Mass that week, Monday through Friday, June 18th 22nd. I will confirm that St. Pat s in Wadsworth will have Daily Mass at 7:30AM. Last Sunday at all of the Masses we thanked Diana Jurista for her many years of devoted service. Special thanks to the Women s Club for arranging the cake and recep on. This weekend at all of the Masses, Bernie Oberdick, Directory of Music at St. Patrick s in Wadsworth, will give a short reflec on at all of the Masses about the upcoming Light of the World Retreat in June. The retreat experience has truly been life-changing for so many. Please consider a ending. The dates and mes are: Friday, June 15th: Saturday, June 16th: Sunday, June 17th: Monday, June 18th: God Bless, Fr. If you have any ques ons, or for more informa on, please call Peggy at: (847) First Friday Holy Hour This Friday, June 1, 2018 Repara on Of Sin Against The Sacred Heart Of Jesus THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS began this devo on of the Holy Hour of Repara on when He entered the Garden of Gethsemane on Mount Olivet. He said to His Apostles: My soul is sorrowful even unto death. Stay you here, and watch with Me. Later He said to them: Could you not watch one hour with Me? Watch and pray, that you enter not into tempta on. ( Ma hew 26:38, 40, 41). When Jesus saw the sins of the world, and the repara on that must be made to His Heavenly Father, He began to fear, and to be sad and sorrowful. Kneeling down, He prayed: Father if Thou will, remove this chalice from Me; but not My Will, Thine be done. There appeared an Angel from Heaven to strengthen Him; and being in agony, He prayed the longer, and His sweat became as drops of blood trickling to the ground. ( Luke 22:41, 44). The Sacred Heart of Jesus said to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque: Make repara on for the ingra tude of men. Spend an hour in prayer to appease divine jus ce, to implore mercy for sinners, to honor Me, to console Me for My bi er suffering when abandoned by My Apostles, when they did not WATCH ONE HOUR WITH ME. The Legion Of Mary Will Be Sponsoring A Holy Hour Of Repara on Of Sin Against The Sacred Heart Of Jesus Every First Friday Of Every Month At 1PM This Friday, June 1st, In The Church COME PRAY WITH US, AND CONSOLE THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS All those who assist at the Holy Hour of Adora on gain a Plenary Indulgence under the condi ons of Sacramental Confession, Eucharis c Communion, and Prayers for the Inten on of The Holy Father. (Enchiridion of Indulgences, Va can 1968)

7 Ask A Priest Q: Why do (some) Non-Catholics claim that Catholics are not Chris ans? Part 5 A: Welcome to Part 5 of my bulle n series trying to answer this ques on. If you miss an ar cle, or have any follow-up ques ons/clarifica ons, or would like to propose another possible argument, please feel free to me. *********************************** Argument #4: The Catholic Church states that it does not know of any other means other than Bap sm that assures entry into eternal bea tude (CCC #1257), but the biblical truth is that water-bap sm saves nobody; salva on must proceed water-bap sm. *********************************** Again, there is a lot for us to unpack here, as this argument betrays a poor interpreta on of Scripture (last week s ar cle), and a completely inept understanding of soteriology (next week s ar cle). Is it any wonder that this person would have no way of grasping the very basics of Sacramental Theology? Jesus does tell us that we are to be bap zed in water! Amen, Amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. (Jn 3:5). Go, therefore, and make disciples of all na ons, bap zing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. (Mt 28:19). It is incredible the verbal gymnas cs required to dismiss these words spoken by Christ! Your friend will argue that when Christ said water and Spirit He actually only meant Spirit; that the water is just a way to symbolize interior conversion. In point of fact, Protestants do get bap zed with water, but they do it out of obedience to Christ rather than out of benefit. A good analogy for this absurdity is the mom giving her child commands; make your bed, brush your teeth, do your homework, eat your vegetables. Our moms did not tell us these things arbitrarily because they demanded blind allegiance; they told them to us because these things were helpful to our well-being. Similarly, Christ s command that we be bap zed is for our benefit (see 1 Peter 3:21-22; Colossians 2:12; Romans 6:4 the list goes on and on). What is a Sacrament? Sacraments are signs percep ble to the senses that enable us to experience the invisible love of God in a physical way. Think about it; God created us with our bodies, and God saw that our bodies are good! As human beings, we are the combina on of body and soul. The body and soul will never be separated from each other, not even in death; we believe in the resurrec on of the body. Our bodies are not shells, they are an integral part of the human reality. Now think of a li le baby; how does she learn about the world? She looks at and touches things, and she puts them in her mouth. It is through physical interac ons with things that we grow in our wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. The whole scien fic method is based on interac ons with the physical. God loves us and wants us to be able to grow in our knowledge and love of Him. God, however, is incorporeal; He does not have a body. In order that we might be able to experience His love for us in a physical way, He uses signs percep ble to our senses. Water, wine, bread, oil, words, gestures, laying on of hands, sights, smells all of these signs point us toward the deeper reality of God s love. Imagine going over to your mom s house, announcing that you are home, and her being so preoccupied with other things that she does not even acknowledge you. Now imagine the same situa on, except this me, she comes up and gives you a big hug and kiss on the cheek, she tells you how much she loves you, and you can smell your favorite meal cooking in the oven, ready for you to devour. When asked to choose between those scenarios, most of us would take op on two! And why is that? It s not that your mom loves you any less in the first scenario, but as human beings, we like to experience invisible reali es in physical ways! I will con nue this discussion on the Sacraments next week. Hopefully, this week s ar cle inspires you to evangelize your Protestant friends, and not merely to defend yourself against an a ack. How sad it is for them to not have an authen c Sacramental Theology. They are relying only on an epistemological understanding of God s love, while in fact, the Lord wants them to experience His love for them in a real, physical, tangible way. Jesus came so that we might know God, not just know about Him. May we con nue to lead others towards this great mystery through all we say and do. Peace, Fr. Mike May 27, 2018 The Most Holy Trinity Sunday 7

And we remember the sacrifices made for us by those who were willing to give their lives to ensure that our own would be spent in freedom. When we celebrate our long weekend with our friends and family, help us remember, that our freedom to speak of You, and our freedom to worship You, and our freedom to do that which we ought to do, have all been bought at the price and sacrifice of many lives. Your Son died for our eternal life in heaven. So too, Your children died protec ng us here on earth. Help us be mindful this weekend and always of the sacrifices made by those in uniform for all of our freedoms. Let us never forget to pray, not only for the dead, but also for those s ll living and working in the cause of freedom around the world. As we celebrate and enjoy this me, give comfort and grace to those men and women who have sacrificed so much for our sake. St. Mar n, St. George, and St. Joan of Arc: Pray for the protec on of our soldiers in their efforts, and bring them home safely at the end of their du es wherever that home may be. Amen.

9 FOCUS On The Lord Spend Time With The Ul mate Father Yes, me flies by, our lives are busy, and it seems like we are always trying to play catch up. Wouldn t it be nice to take a break from it all and catch up with the Lord? Why not come on the Light of the World Retreat, and get reacquainted with the Lord. Any me is the perfect me for new beginnings! It is truly transforming. Come To The Light Of The World Retreat at: St. Patrick Parish in Wadsworth Friday, June 15th: 6:30PM 9PM Saturday, June 16th: 8:15AM 7:30PM Sunday, June 17th: 8:15AM 7PM Monday, June 18th: 6:30PM 10PM For more informa on, and/or to register, go to: and click the Ask Me bu on on the right. Or call the Saint Patrick Office at: (847) Eucharis c Adora on Indeed, Earth is joined to Heaven each me we are united with the Saints and Angels in extolling God, who, in worship we see, if not with the sight of eyes, then with the eyes of faith. We are called to abide in the Eucharis c Presence of our Lord, like the Saints and Angels do in Heaven, as they behold the glory of God, and sing His praise! The Saints and Angels wait upon the Lord, and do His will in all things. Their presence magnifies the Lord. They also intercede for us before the Lord. When we look upon the Sacred Host, we look at Jesus, the Son of God. Do we see Him in all His glory and majesty? Do our lips proclaim His praise? Do our souls magnify the Lord making Him clearer, more in focus, and larger to others around us? Do we place the needs of others before Him? Are we open to the will of God, and strive for perfec on in our spiritual lives so that we, too, may one day join the company of the Saints in Heaven? It is at this moment when we are most in mately in communion with God, that we experience a taste of Heaven, a foreshadowing of what it will be like, when, by God s grace, we enter into everlas ng life. Indeed, this is the will of My Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in Him, shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day. ( Jn 6:40). Do something special during this upcoming Summer, please consider coming to Eucharis c Adora on on Thursdays at 1PM. Come, bring your whole family, spend some me with the Lord, and receive His blessings!
