3 A Note From The Pastor As of December 8th, we are now in the Jubilee Year of Mercy inaugurated by Pope Francis. Please refer below to informa on sent to priests by Archbishop Blase Cupich regarding how to obtain the Plenary Indulgence. What must one do in order to receive the Special Plenary Indulgence? In order to gain this Special Indulgence, a Catholic is required first to make Sacramental Confession, receive the Eucharist at Mass, make a Profession of Faith, and offer Prayers for the Supreme Pon ff s inten ons. In addi on to and in conjunc on with fulfilling these condi ons, one may then take part in any of the following observances of the Jubilee of Mercy. Each me one visits, in the course of a pilgrimage, the Cathedral of the Holy Name of Jesus, or a designated Jubilee Parish, and there walks through the designated Holy Door, and makes a brief visit. Parishes designated in the Archdiocese of Chicago can be found on the Archdiocesan Jubilee of Mercy website ( and on the website of the Office for Divine Worship ( Those for whom, for various reasons, it will be impossible to enter the Holy Door, par cularly the sick, and people who are elderly and alone, (e.g., confined to the home), the Holy Father noted, For them it will be of great help to live their sickness and suffering, as an experience of closeness to the Lord, who in the mystery of His Passion, Death, and Resurrec on, indicates the royal road which gives meaning to pain and loneliness. Living with faith and joyful hope, this moment of trial, receiving Communion, or a ending Holy Mass and community prayer, even through the various means of communica on, will be for them the means of obtaining the Jubilee Indulgence. For those who are incarcerated, whose freedom is limited, the Jubilee Year has always cons tuted an opportunity for great amnesty. They may obtain the Indulgence in the chapels of the prisons. The Pope has asked the Church in this Jubilee Year to rediscover the richness encompassed by the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The experience of mercy, indeed, becomes visible in the witness of concrete signs as Jesus Himself taught us. Each me that one of the faithful personally performs one or more of these ac ons, he or she shall surely obtain the Jubilee Indulgence. Furthermore, the Jubilee Indulgence can also be obtained for the deceased. We are bound to them by the witness of faith and charity that they have le us. Thus, as we remember them in the Eucharis c celebra on, thus we can, in the great mystery of the Communion of Saints, pray for them, that the merciful Face of the Father free them of every remnant of fault, and strongly embrace them in the unending bea tude. Finally, I con nue to remind you of the upcoming Memorial Mass for our Pastor Emeritus, Fr. We look forward to seeing you there! Christmas Angel Trees During the Advent season, our Christmas Angel Trees will be located in the southwest corner of the Church. The Trees will be decorated with angels and envelopes with the name of Helping Hands of Our Lady or Our Lady of Humility Food Pantry. Our goal is to help the needy and the hungry with monies collected from the Christmas Angel Trees. Please help us help more people this year. Take the angel along with your dona on, and place it in an envelope, which can be put in the Sunday Collec on Basket. Christmas Gi s For The Residents Of The Grove Once again, Our Lady of Humility Women s Club will be sponsoring Gi s For The Residents Of The Grove At Christmas. The Women s Club will be collec ng items to donate to the residents for Christmas. The residents always appreciate all we do for them. Items such as: clothing (large), toiletries, books, shirts, sweaters, etc., hats, gloves, scarves, lo ons, sta onery, jewelry, small boxes of candy or cookies, and anything you feel would make a nice gi for a nursing home resident. Anything you would like to receive as a gi would truly make the residents happy. There is a Silver Decorated Christmas Box in the Ves bule between the Church and Parish Center un l this Sunday, December 20th. We ask that the items be placed unwrapped in the box. Christmas Eve Day, Thursday, December 24th, is Our Lady of Humility s commitment to provide volunteers to help with the Soup Kitchen at Holy Family Services (the old St. Bartholomew Parish) located at: 914 8th Street, Waukegan. It is always the fourth Thursday of every month. Food prepara on begins at 3PM, dinner is served at 5:30PM, followed by clean-up. We are usually done by 7PM.
