Registra on takes place this weekend a er all Masses in the Parish Center. There is a cri cal shortage of blood in the Blood Bank serving Chicago and the surrounding areas. Every pint of blood that is donated, helps at least 3 people. Please donate YOUR blood next Sunday, January 27th.

3 A Note From The Pastor This weekend at all of the Masses, we will have a Special Collec on to support the Church in La n America. The needs and challenges facing the Church in La n America and the Caribbean are great: There are few teaching resources and a poor infrastructure. Your prayerful and monetary support will help to spread the faith to people who are open to the Catholic Faith. If you wish to donate to this Special Collec on, please place an envelope, which can be obtained at the entrance doors of the Church, in with the regular Collec on. There will be no Second Collec on. The U.S. Bishops have designated this Tuesday, January 22nd, as a Day of Prayer for the Legal Protec on of Unborn Children. With sorrow, we recall the 1973 Supreme Court decision Roe vs. Wade regarding abor on. Let us con nue to pray for an end to abor on in our country and in the world. Please know that there are two movies coming out in 2019 regarding respect for the right to life. Roe v. Wade will be a drama za on of the 1973 Supreme Court decision. Among the cast are: Jon Voight, Stacey Dash, and Robert Davi. As I type this column, I do not know the release date for Roe v. Wade. Another pro-life film, Unplanned, based on the book with the same tle, tells the true story of former Planned Parenthood Clinic Director, Abby Johnson. I ve read the book and it is very good. The movie is a full-length drama c feature film that tells the story of how Abby Johnson went from running an abor on clinic to becoming one of the most powerful defenders of life in the world today. The movie is scheduled to open in theaters in the Spring of 2019, March 22nd, last I heard. In last week s bulle n, I men oned that OLH would be revamping our gree ng and welcoming ministry. Please see this week s bulle n regarding the launch of a comprehensive Hospitality Ministry. The bulle n announcement has Peggy Reid s contact informa on; she will speak briefly at all of the Masses this weekend. Please prayerfully consider par cipa ng. This ini a ve is part of the ongoing evangeliza on and renewal process in our Parish. A year ago we launched a new Sacristan Ministry and a new Altar Linen Ministry here at OLH. They are up and running well. However, we could use a few more volunteers to serve as Sacristans. Please prayerfully consider if God is calling you to assist with the care of the sacred vessels used during Mass as well as prepara ons before Mass, and a few du es a er Mass. Please contact Fr. Paul if you are interested. Reminder: The Light of the World Retreat is returning to St. Patrick s in Wadsworth in collabora on with OLH on Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evening, February 15th 18th. This retreat is a great way to renew one s rela onship with the Lord Jesus, and can really set the tone for a prayerful year. 4 Donut Sunday This Sunday, January 20th, is Donut Sunday hosted by our Knights of Columbus. Join your fellow parishioners for some delicious treats, and the even be er treat of community and fellowship. If January is your birthday month, please come and enjoy a complimentary drink and donut of your choice with your friends and The Knights. Religious Educa on News There will be No Religious Educa on Classes next Sunday, January 27th because of the School s Open House. Classes will resume on Sunday, February 3rd. Men And Women s Bible Study Now Through April 14th How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a me. We do this by going over two chapters of the scripture with a Catholic commentary. Mee ngs are on the Second and Fourth Sundays of the month in the Hayes Community Room at 7PM, and last about 90 minutes. Become a be er version of yourself. Catholic Schools Week & Open House Our Lady of Humility School will be having an Open House for both current and prospec ve families. This is an opportunity for all of our current families to come and see some of the great things the students and teachers are doing. Please mark your calendars for the OLH Open House next Sunday, January 27th, from 10AM 12 Noon. If you know of any OLH Alumni, please welcome them to the Open House as well to visit the School again. Collec on For The Church In La n America This weekend is the Collec on for the Church in La n America. Many people in La n America and the Caribbean do not have access to Church programs and ministries because of a rising secular culture, rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers. Your generosity makes it possible for our brothers and sisters in La n America and the Caribbean to share in the life of the Church, and grow closer to Christ. As always, we appreciate your kind and generous support. Hospitality How many of you sit in about the same pew at the same Mass every Sunday? I am willing to bet it is the majority of us. Now, how many people see the same people in the pews next to them, behind them, or maybe in front of them each week? First of all, good job coming to Mass each week! The big ques on is, how many of those people do you know by name? Unfortunately, for the majority of parishioners, the answer would be, very few. The OLH Evangeliza on Commi ee has begun a Hospitality Commi ee to change that. We want people to get to know each other, along with making new parishioners and visitors feel welcome. We want to have Greeters at each Mass, form a Welcoming Team, and offer hospitality-related ac vi es, so that we may increase our Mass a endance. To do this, we need help. We are looking for friendly, crea ve people that can help us put these plans into ac on. Your me commitment could be as li le as 15 minutes before Mass once a month as a Greeter, or maybe you are someone who loves to help organize events. This Thursday, January 24th, is Our Lady of Humility s commitment to provide volunteers to help with the Soup Kitchen at Holy Family Services (the old St. Bartholomew Parish) located at: 914 8th Street, Waukegan. The Soup Kitchen is always the fourth Thursday of every month. Food prepara on para on begins at 3PM, dinner is served at 5:30PM, followed by clean an-up. We are usually done by 7PM. Any me that you can give is greatly appreciated. We are in desperate need of more assistance from our Parishioners on a regular basis. We usually have lots of volunteers for the holidays, but your help is needed every month! 6 Our Lady Of Humility Women s Club February Mee ng On Thursday, February 7th, at 6:30PM: Our Lady of Humility Women s Club will have a White Elephant Gi Exchange. A White Elephant is a gi that was given to you which you will not use/do not want, or is a gently used item from your home. If you have never had the opportunity to par cipate in a White Elephant Gi Exchange, it s hysterically funny and enjoyable! Bring your wrapped gi, and join in on the fun! Refreshments will be served following our mee ng. Ladies! Start 2019 With Fellowship, Fun, And Service To Our Parish/School The Our Lady of Humility Women s Club meets on the first Thursday of every month (except January, July, and August) at 6:30PM (unless otherwise noted) in the Hayes Community Room. Our Mission Statement: Through the effec ve u liza on of our God-given talents, we shall endeavor to provide friendship among the membership, while assis ng the Parish with designated Chris an social, service, and spiritual ac vi es. All Ladies from the Parish (Church and School) are invited to join our Women s Club. Annual Membership Dues are $10.00 Per Person (A BARGAIN!!). Our Lady Of Humility Women s Club Upcoming February Events Bingo For The Residents At The Grove By The Lake Nursing Home In Zion On Thursday, February 21st, from 1:30 3PM: We will host Bingo for the residents at The Grove By The Lake in Zion. The Grove is an Annual Service Project that Our Lady of Humility Women s Club host. The residents look forward to Bingo, and we enjoy hos ng. Volunteers are to meet in the Lobby at 12:30PM at The Grove. Please encourage as many women as you can to par cipate, as many are needed to assist the residents. Please bring purchased and packaged cookies, etc. (no homemade goods due to changes in state law). It is through the generosity of our Parishioners that we have sufficient prizes for the residents. Thank you! Also, the Women s Club will be collec ng items to donate to the residents. The residents always appreciate all we do for them. Items such as casual, everyday clothing (large), toiletries, books, shirts, sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, lo ons, sta onery, jewelry, small boxes of purchased and packaged candy or cookies, and anything you feel would make a nice gi for a nursing home resident are appreciated. Anything you would like to receive as a gi, would truly make the residents happy. There is a box designated for the residents at The Grove By The Lake in the Ves bule between the Church and Parish Center for items being donated for this cause. 7 Uganda Seminarian Ministry We are running our semi-annual appeal for the Uganda Seminarian Ministry now through the end of February. A semester at the seminary costs $300 for tui on, housing, and food for each Seminarian. This is a fortune in Uganda. If you would like to help the Seminarians, you can do it in one of two ways. 1. Contribute to the Fund for Those in Greatest Need 2. Sponsor a Seminarian ($600/Academic Year) If you decide to Sponsor, then you must mark that op on on the envelope, so that the OLH Business Manager will be able to let the seminary officials know. If it is not designated, it will go to Those in Greatest Need. If you Sponsor a Seminarian, you will then correspond with your Seminarian via . Checks are wri en to Our Lady of Humility (this money will be on your year-end tax statement from OLH). Two mes a year OLH will send a check from this Fund to the Chicago Archdiocese Mission Office, and that Office will transfer the funds electronically to the Kasana-Luweero Diocese in Uganda. There are colored envelopes at the Church doors. Please use these so that the money will not be misdirected. OLH Teen Ministry Again this year, the teens will be par cipa ng in the Souper Bowl of Caring. This is a teen-led na onal movement that raises money for local food-related chari es. It is held every year on Super Bowl weekend (February 2nd 3rd this year). Every year OLH parishioners have donated over $1,000 which goes to our OLH Food Pantry. This event challenges every person in a endance at all of the Masses to donate one dollar (more is be er) to the soup pots that will be held by teens at the doors of the Church a er Mass. 8 Fireside Theater Trip My Fair Lady Dear Parishioners and Friends, MARK YOUR CALENDARS!! The Co-Ed Seniors Group has scheduled the following trip to the Fireside Theater in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Join us on: Saturday March 30, 2019 For My Fair Lady O en called the World s Greatest Musical. My Fair Lady is a Broadway Classic which won Six Tony Awards including Best Musical. Its popular film adapta on took home Eight Oscars including Best Picture. My Fair Lady has entertained over a billion people worldwide with its enchan ng Cinderella Story about Eliza Dooli le, a bedraggled, cockney flower girl who is transformed into an elegant lady by the brilliant and irascible Professor Higgins by teaching her the proper way to speak. It is a beau ful show filled with gorgeous costumes, breath-taking dancing, rib- ckling comedy, and an unforge able score featuring such hits as: Wouldn t It Be Lovely, I m Ge ng Married In The Morning, and I Could Have Danced All Night. This trip will depart promptly at 8:30AM from the South End of the Church/School parking lot, and return approximately between 5:30-6PM. Please park on the EAST side of the bus. Thank you. 9 Co-Ed Senior Luncheon The next Co-Ed Senior Luncheon will be Tuesday, February 12th, at 12 Noon. This Luncheon was rescheduled from January. It will be our Annual Chili Cook-off. We need people who would like to par cipate in the Chili Cook-off, please bring a Pot of Chili. There will be prizes for the Best 3. We need people also to bring a Salad, or a Dessert. If you can join us, please sign-up on the Sign-up Sheet on the table in the back of Church, and there will also be a Sign-up Sheet to let us know if you can bring a Pot of Chili, a Salad, or a Dessert.
