3 A Note From The Pastor This Sunday, December 4th, we will have our Annual All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast with Santa from 8AM to 12:30PM in the Parish Center. All are invited. Advent along with our prepara ons for Christmas have begun. An essen al ingredient in preparing for Christmas is going to Confession. We will have an Advent Penance Service on Tuesday, December 13th, at 7PM in our Church. Of course, anyone may a end this Service, but this is a combined Penance Service for Our Lady of Humility and St. Patrick s in Wadsworth. Please welcome any parishioners from St. Patrick s. In the Spring, there will be a combined Lenten Penance Service at St. Patrick s for both of our Parishes. The Administrator of St. Patrick s in Wadsworth, Fr. Jim Merold, and I decided to combine these yearly services as it is increasingly difficult to find Priests to assist with Confessions. I have three Priests confirmed for December 13th, but I am very confident that I can find a fourth Priest. This Thursday is December 8th, and so we celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Concep on, a Holy Day of Obliga on. We will have Mass at: 7AM, 9AM (School Mass), and 7PM. Please plan on a ending Mass to celebrate this great mystery of our faith. Next Monday evening, December 12th, at 7PM we will celebrate Mass for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We recall how on December 9th, 1531, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Juan Diego asking for a Church to be built on Tepeyac Hill in modern-day Mexico City. Please come and celebrate this most important appari on, message, and miracle of the Blessed Mother almost 500 years ago. Next weekend at all of the Masses we will have a Second Collec on for the Re rement Fund for Religious. The reality is that for many years Religious Nuns, Brothers, and Priests worked in schools or parishes for very small s pends, or at mes without any pay at all. These Religious are now re red, and need financial support. Your gi works for Elderly Religious by helping to furnish medica ons, nursing care, and more. 4 Feast Of The Immaculate Concep on Of Mary This Thursday, December 8th, is a Holy Day of Obliga on in the United States, a day on which we celebrate the Immaculate Concep on of the Virgin Mary. As this Feast occurs early in Advent, it is a perfect me to consider Mary, and her important role in the celebra on of Christmas. Mass Times will be: 7AM, 9AM, and 7PM. The Tree will be decorated with angels and envelopes with the name of Helping Hands of Our Lady or Our Lady of Humility Food Pantry. Our goal is to help the needy and the hungry with monies collected from the Christmas Angel Tree. Please help us help more people this year. Feast Of Our Lady Of Guadalupe This year our Parish will be celebra ng this beau ful Marian Feast Day on Monday, December 12th. If you would like to help with this celebra on, please contact Minnie at (847) Monday, December 12, 2016 Holy Rosary begins at 6PM Spanish Mass begins at 7PM ************************************************************************************************ In 1531, a Lady from Heaven appeared to Juan Diego, a humble Na ve American at Tepeyac, a hill northwest of what is now Mexico City. She iden fied Herself as the ever Virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for whom we live, of the Creator of all things, Lord of heaven and earth. She made a request for a Church to be built on the site, and Juan Diego submi ed Her wish to the local Bishop. When the Bishop hesitated, and requested a sign, the Mother of God obeyed without delay or ques on, sending Her na ve messenger to the top of the hill in mid-december to gather an assortment of roses for the Bishop. A er complying to the request for a sign, She le for us an image of Herself imprinted miraculously on the na ve s lma, a poor quality cactus-cloth, which should have deteriorated in 20 years, but shows no sign of decay a er more than 475 years later. It s ll defies all scien fic explana ons of its origin. Her message is of love and compassion, and a universal promise of help and protec on to all mankind. An incredible list of miracles, cures, and interven ons are a ributed to Her. Yearly, an es mated 10 million visit Her Basilica, making Her Mexico City home the most popular Marian Shrine in the world, and the most visited Catholic Church in the world next to the Va can. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated on December 12th. In 1999, Pope John Paul II, in his homily from the Solemn Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, during his third visit to the sanctuary, declared the date of December the 12th as a Liturgical Holy Day for the whole con nent. During the same visit, Pope John Paul II entrusted the cause of life to Her loving protec on, and placed under Her motherly care the innocent lives of children, especially those who are in danger of not being born. Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who am your Mother? Are you not under my protec on? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything. 7 Christmas Remembrance The Advent season is filled with hopeful an#cipa#on looking forward to the celebra#on of the birth of Jesus Christ. As we celebrate, flowers and fes#ve decora#ons become an important part of our homes, as well as our Church environment. It is also a #me when we most miss family and friends who have gone before us here on earth. In their life#me, they gave us a gi* of themselves, and now, we can remember them and all our loved ones by making a dona#on for flowers in their name as they con#nue to remain alive in us, especially during this Christmas season. The names of those you wish to be remembered will be listed in the bulle#n. To par#cipate, please fill out the envelopes at the doors of the Church with your dona#on and memorial by: Re!rement Fund For Religious Second Collec!on Next Weekend Be faithful to your prayer life, and have a sense of humor, says Sister Rita Polchin, a member of the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Danville, Pennsylvania. That s my advice for a long, happy life. And, at age 87, she ought to know. Throughout nearly 70 years of Religious Life, this philosophy has served her well, especially as she ministered in Catholic Schools. One year I had a class of 54 students, she recalls with a smile, but they were all good! Like Sister Rita, the Senior Sisters, Brothers, and Religious Order Priests shown above and some 33,000 more across the na#on have offered their lives in service and prayer. They have educated the young, cared for the sick, and spoken for the oppressed. Many, including Sister Rita, con#nue to serve. Others need assistance. The Knights Of Columbus Honor Richard McFarlin At Their Annual Christmas Party All Are Invited The Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Humility are planning to honor Richard McFarlin for all he has done for the Knights at Our Lady of Humility. Many people have asked to come to our Annual Christmas Party where we will honor him. Well as the new Grand Knight, I need to know how many of you would like to join us. The residents always appreciate all we do for them. Items such as: clothing (large), toiletries, books, shirts, sweaters, etc., hats, gloves, scarves, lo#ons, sta#onery, jewelry, small boxes of candy or cookies, and anything you feel would make a nice gi* for a nursing home resident. 8 Catholic Women s Club Of Lake County The December Mee ng is our Christmas get together Mee ng for the Catholic Women s Club. It will take place on: This Thursday, December 8th, at St. Dismas Church in Waukegan. The Lunch will be hosted by the ladies from St. Anastasia in Waukegan, St. Joseph in Libertyville, St. Mary in Buffalo Grove, and St. Mary in Lake Forest. The Rosary will start at 11AM followed by Lunch and a brief Business Mee ng. All Catholic Women of Lake County are warmly invited, and encouraged to a end. The friendly atmosphere of good food and fellowship always provides an enjoyable a ernoon. Thank You! Give Jesus A Spiritual Bouquet For His Birthday This Christmas! What is a Spiritual Bouquet? A Spiritual Bouquet is simply a collec on of prayers the giver (you) has offered up, or will offer up to the recipient (Jesus). And the best thing about the gi of prayer is that it has eternal value so it lasts forever. Every me we go to Mass, receive Holy Communion, or pray, we can offer it up for a Special Inten on. Below are some prayer sugges ons that adults and children can offer to Jesus as a gi, or for some Special Inten on (for example, for the conversion of souls to His Sacred Heart). There will be a box on the side altar in the back of Church (behind the Confessional Room) for people to deposit their Spiritual Bouquets from Sunday, December 4th, through Sunday, December 25th.
