3 A Note From The Pastor Special thanks to all of you, and Fr. Tom Hoffman regarding our 2015 (not 2016) Annual Catholic Appeal. The Archdiocese raised $16,300,000 thanks to the efforts of the pastors, and the generosity of parishioners in Cook and Lake Coun es. For our part, we exceeded our goal, and received a rebate for those funds in excess of our goal. As Pastor, I am truly grateful for the sacrifices you make so that the Church may con nue her mission, and reach out to others with hope and support. This Sunday is the first Sunday a er Pentecost, and so we celebrate Trinity Sunday. We celebrate and honor the Trinity on this par cular day in part because of St. Thomas Becket. In the twel h century, he was consecrated as Archbishop of Canterbury on the first Sunday a er Pentecost, and he obtained permission to celebrate Trinity Sunday on this day. In the fourteenth century, Pope John XXII extended this celebra on to the whole church. Some Chris an doctrines are more important than others. As stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church: In Catholic doctrine there exists an order or hierarchy of truths, since they vary in their rela on to the founda on of the Chris an faith [CCC #90]. Regarding the importance of the Trinity, the Catechism goes on to say: The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Chris an faith and life. It is the mystery of God in Himself. It is, therefore, the source of all the other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them. It is the most fundamental and essen al teaching in the hierarchy of the truths of faith [CCC #234]. God is the source and ground of all reality, and so we shouldn t be surprised to learn that God as Trinity, as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, One God, is the ul mate mystery. This Friday we will have the Eighth Grade Gradua on Mass. We are very proud of our Eighth Graders, and I ask you to please keep them and all the young in our thoughts and prayers. We live in a world increasingly hos le to our Catholic Faith, and it will be a challenge for them to remain faithful to Christ. Let us also con nue to pray for one another. God Bless, Fr. Cupich. Greg Krame will serve his first Mass as a Deacon at Our Lady of Humility on Sunday, June 5th, at 11AM. Join Us To Celebrate Jesus On The Feast Of Corpus Chris! Join us for a Holy Hour on the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ next Sunday, May 29th, in Church at 7PM. The devo on will include Vespers, Private Prayer, the Rosary honoring Jesus in the Eucharist, followed by Benedic on of the Blessed Sacrament. Bring your whole family! All are welcome! We are going to see the Kenosha Kingfish play Green Bay at the Kenosha Ballpark on Sheridan Road. The game will start at 7:05PM, but we will be having a Tailgate Party beginning at 6:05PM. The Cost will be $18 Per Person, with all the ballpark food you can eat up to the start of the game. Food fare will include: burgers, brats, hotdogs, cranberry walnut chicken salad sandwich, potato salad, coleslaw, and chips. Sodas and water are also part of the fare. We will have reserved seats in the grandstand. We will have to pay in advance, so we are reques ng you pay Doug or Marijo or John or Susan. If needed, there are addressed envelopes by the sign-up sheet in the Church Ves bule. For all who are planning on a ending, we will need your payment no later than Tuesday, May 31st. Join The Club Representa ve Jesiel s Summer Reading Club challenges K 5th Graders to read 8 books during their summer break. Books for local library programs are also acceptable, and books over 150 pages may count for 2 books. Once a student completes the reading, fill out the form (in the School Office), have a parent or guardian verify that the books were read, then return the form to Representa ve Jesiel. Children who have read at least 8 books are invited to par cipate in an Ice Cream Party hosted by Representa ve Jesiel in August. Also Representa ve Jesiel will make available informa on about saving for college. All forms should be returned by July 25th. Smith Soup Kitchen Do something helpful this upcoming Summer, this Thursday, May 26th, is Our Lady of Humility s commitment to provide volunteers to help with the Soup Kitchen at Holy Family Services (the old St. Bartholomew Parish) located at: 914 8th Street, Waukegan. It is always the fourth Thursday of every month. Food prepara on begins at 3PM, dinner is served at 5:30PM, followed by clean-up. We are usually done by 7PM. 6 A Taste Of Heaven Awaits Us In Eucharis c Adora on! Indeed, Earth is joined to Heaven each me we are united with the Saints and Angels in extolling God, Who, in worship we see, if not with the sight of eyes, then with the eyes of faith. We are called to abide in the Eucharis c Presence of our Lord, like the Saints and Angels do in Heaven, as they behold the glory of God, and sing His Praise! The Saints and Angels wait upon the Lord, and do His Will in all things. Their presence magnifies the Lord. They also intercede for us before the Lord. When we look upon the Sacred Host, we look at Jesus, the Son of God. Do we see Him in all His glory and majesty? Do our lips proclaim His praise? Do our souls magnify the Lord making Him clearer, more in focus, and larger to others around us? Do we place the needs of others before Him? Are we open to the will of God, and strive for perfec on in our spiritual lives so that we, too, may one day join the company of the Saints in Heaven? It is at this moment when we are most in mately in communion with God, that we experience a taste of Heaven, a foreshadowing of what it will be like, when, by God s grace, we enter into everlas ng life. Indeed, this is the will of My Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in Him, shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day. ( Jn 6:40). Helping Hands/Knights of Columbus Annual Rummage Sale Spring is here, and the cleaning is ongoing. Please remember the Helping Hands/Knights of Columbus Rummage Sale which is coming up on Friday, June 17th, and Saturday, June 18th. We can use all of the clean, usable items that are no longer needed in your home. Don t forget to check your basements, garages, and sheds, because we can use unwanted tools and spor ng goods also. Remember, things you can no longer use can be someone else s treasure. 8 Registra on For Religious Educa on Registra ons are now being accepted for the School Year. The Registra on Form is online. Religious Educa on Classes for Grades Pre-School through High School, are offered on Sunday Mornings from 10:30AM un l 12 Noon, and on Monday Evenings for Grades 1st through Grade 8th, from 6:30PM un l 8PM. We will be star ng classes for the School Year on Sunday, September 11th, and Monday, September 12th. Classes will go through Sunday, April 23rd, and Monday, April 24th, Catechists are needed for 3rd and 8th Grades on Monday Evenings. If you are interested in teaching, or would like more informa on, please call the Religious Educa on Office at (847) The Religious Educa on Office will be open for Registra on on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30AM un l 3PM through the month of May. The Religious Educa on Office will be closed June and July. The Office opens again in August when Registra on will take place each Sunday from 10AM un l 1PM through Labor Day weekend. No Registra ons will be accepted a er this date, unless the family is transferring from another program. 43rd Annual Senior Unity Mass Thursday, June 2nd All Senior Ci zens are invited to the Catholic Chari es 43rd Annual Senior Unity Mass and Luncheon on Thursday, June 2nd, at 10AM at Holy Family Church, located at 1080 W. Roosevelt Road in Chicago. Immediately following Mass, there is a social gathering, and free hot luncheon in the basement cafeteria of Holy Family Church. Do you desire more peace and unity in your family? Do you want to increase devo on to Our Blessed Mother? Are you seeking a special grace to help with life s latest challenge? Are you looking for a way to thank Our Lady for blessings already received? If you answered yes to any of the above ques ons, then please consider invi ng Our Blessed Mother to come stay at your home for a week. Currently, members of the Legion of Mary will bring her on a Sunday, and pick her up on the following Saturday. There are prayers for both the arrival and farewell days. Both last about 30 minutes, and include the Rosary. Families are encouraged to pray the Rosary together every day while she is visi ng. Our Mother Mary wants nothing more than to bring us closer to her Son, Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. She is pa ently wai ng to assist us in all of life s necessi es. Praying the Rosary every day is a great way to deepen your prayer life.
