3 A Note From The Pastor... This Thursday, November 1st, is All Saints Day, and it is a Holy Day of Obliga on; we will have Mass at: 7AM, 9AM, and 7PM. Because of our celebra on of All Saints Day, there will be No Eucharis c Adora on this Thursday. This Friday, November 2nd, is All Souls Day. We will have our regularly scheduled 8:45AM Friday Mass as well as an Evening 7PM Mass to pray for our beloved dead, especially those who have died within the past year. Please consider a ending Mass (for a second day in a row!), and pray for your loved ones who have con nued their journeys, that they may complete them if they haven t already arrived in Heaven with the company of the saints. November has arrived. The Liturgical Year will be coming to an end very soon with the First Sunday of Advent falling on December 2nd. Some of our Sunday readings in late November will contain themes of judgment, and the last things [death, judgment, hell, heaven]. November is the Month of the Holy Souls in Purgatory. We pray for all those souls who have died in the grace of God, but did not a ain the level of purity required for entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states the following regarding purgatory: All who die in God s grace and friendship, but s ll imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salva on; but a er death they undergo purifica on, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of Heaven. [CCC #1030]. While this process of purifica on involves suffering, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI described purgatory as the inwardly necessary process of transforma on in which a person becomes capable of Christ, capable of God, and thus capable of unity with the whole communion of saints. With our prayers, we can help souls in purgatory shorten their me in purgatory, and complete their journeys to the Father and Heaven. In this month of November, may we pray for our loved ones that they may enter into the eternal joys of Heaven: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. A en on Parents and Students: Please refer later in this bulle n for the upcoming Altar Server Training. Boys and girls in Fi h Grade or later are eligible. As we enter into November this week, please don t forget to consider taking one of our the WORD Among Us: Daily Medita ons For Catholics Booklets at the entrances of Church. A $1 dona on is requested, but not required. Let us con nue to pray for all those affected by the hurricane and floods. God Bless, Fr. Paul October 28, 2018 Thir eth Sunday In Ordinary Time 3

One of the very important ministries we can offer a person your age is to become an Altar Server. When we gather for various liturgical celebra ons, especially Sunday Mass, we are invited to par cipate in the fullest way in that worship service. Being an Altar Server is one such way that we share our God-given gi s with the rest of the Parish community. The Altar Server, as the name suggests, adds to the celebra on of the Eucharist by his or her assistance to the Priest and Deacon presiding at Mass. I would like to invite you to consider becoming an Altar Server. We have a great need for good, reliable, and prayerful servers at our liturgies, so I hope you would feel welcome to join your peers in this ministry. We have a number of boys and girls in both the School and Religious Educa on Program who are currently servers, so if you would like to know more about it, you can ask one of them, or contact me. All boys and girls in Grades 5th through 8th (as well as High School Grades) are welcome to be Altar Servers. 9 RCIA Classes Are Beginning Again. Please Join Us! Our next round of classes for the Rite of Chris an Ini a on for Adults (RCIA) will meet on Mondays beginning November 5th at 7PM in the Hayes Community Room. RCIA is the process where someone is either not bap zed, bap zed but hasn t celebrated Confirma on and Holy Eucharist, or someone who is a bap zed Chris an from a Protestant or Evangelical background, becomes a member of the Church, on pilgrimage to our Heavenly Father. To be a disciple of Jesus, we must first open the door of our heart and invite Him in. The process begins with faith. Faith comes from hearing the Word. The journey of faith begins with you and your ques ons. What Is RCIA About? Good Ques on: We will be learning to know Jesus in HIS stories and in OUR stories. It is a me for introducing and/or strengthening Gospel values, and, for some people, an opportunity for growth in faith. Our goal is to find God in each other and in our selves in our ordinary lives. God is already in our lives. We might need to recognize this, and to invite Him to be more a part of our lives. He is ready to have a rela onship with us. We need to desire a rela onship with God. No ma er what our life s journey has been, it either leads us closer to God or further away from Him. We are here to journey towards God. We come together for weekly sessions led by our team of Catechists, and supported by Sponsors and fellow par cipants. RCIA is a safe place to discuss faith and share, explore ques ons about Catholicism or religion in general. What we discuss here stays here in the room. Anyone is free to share as li le or as much as they like. We always have free will to choose. Like Mary, who was given the opportunity to accept Jesus into her life, we are asked if we will accept and welcome Jesus into our lives. In turn, we enter the life of Christ. God gave us free will from the beginning, and wants us to freely choose to come to Him through Jesus. Already Catholic? If you love your faith and would like to mentor someone on their journey, please consider joining the next session of RCIA. Please contact the Parish Rectory at (847) for more informa on. The RCIA Team would love to meet you there. RCIA Today at the 11AM Mass, the ini al inquiry (pre-catechumenate) period for our Parish s group of inquirers will be moving into the second stage, with our first opportunity for unbap zed inquirers to go through the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens, and bap zed inquirers to go through the Rite of Welcoming. The first phase of the journey of ini a on has been a me for seekers to hear the mystery of Christ proclaimed. The inquirers have consciously and freely sought the living God, and entered the way of faith and conversion as the Holy Spirit opens their hearts. We ask you to please pray for the inquirers as they con nue their conversion journey, and for our RCIA process as we assist them in moving toward a closer rela onship with God. Your prayers are cri cal to the success of the program. We will con nue to keep you informed of the ini a on process, and progress of those considering joining the Church. We invite you to take an ac ve role in welcoming our soon-to-be Catechumens and Candidates, and to be models of faith and Chris an charity for them. Therefore, it is with great joy that we welcome the following men and women who will take this step today, and we promise them our prayers, support, and encouragement in the months ahead.
