We are so grateful to Mrs. Nancy Harvey for planning and facilita ng these evenings. Our Praying in Color evenings begin with so lights and music while our young people are spread out at tables or even si ng on rug squares on the floor. Whatever feels comfortable is what we suggest. Some quie ng medita on helps par cipants to let go of what has happened all day and just relax into the moment. Color markers and crayons are provided along with a large piece of empty paper. Par cipants are then encouraged to use drawings, words, pa erns, or just doodling to place all their worries, joys, struggles, gratefulness, etc. on the paper. During our evening, Mrs. Harvey would quietly talk them through each step of the way. Toward the end 3 It is not every day that you witness an auditorium full of middle school students in total relaxed quiet for almost an hour while praying. The most notable happening of the night for me was not one cell phone was even seen. We cannot express our gra tude enough for Mrs. Nancy Harvey who brings this wonderful experience to our young people. REL. ED MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT At Religious Educa on we are also working on another project for our middle school and high school students. Valery Mata, Gaby Redon, Gregory Jean-Bap ste, and Ryan Egan (all catechists) and Christy Valen n (just Confirmed) are teaming up for a special themed presenta on. This group is mee ng for two weeks planning an icebreaker, video clips, discussions, presenta ons and personal witness all centered around one theme. That theme asks the ques on, Why do we have rules and commandments to live by and what happens to ourselves and others when we break them? And in par cular, it begins the conversa on about how we can profoundly hurt ourselves and others with words. Our team is very excited to present this evening. FIRST PENANCE First Penance took place this weekend on Saturday at 1 pm. We offer our thanks to the Catechists and Parents who prepared these young people for the Sacrament. To Mrs. Joyce Scardino, Mrs. Nancy Harvey and Mrs. Kathy Johnston we give our hear elt thanks. Each of our young people were gi ed with a book en tled, The Mass Book for Children. This book helps to guide them through the Mass as they con nue their prepara on for First Eucharist. It will be May before we know it!

4 Third Sunday in Ordinary Time January 21, 2018 Fr. Phil Reflec ons for 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Each of us is called to witness to who God is in our lives by what we say and do. How are our lives different because we believe? Jesus has extended to each of us by virtue of our Bap sm an invita on to follow Him as one of His disciples. Have we made and do we con nuously make the decision to follow Jesus? To follow the Lord means to stand up for the sacredness of all of life. All life ma ers at all ages and stages. The urgency of this situa on calls for all of us to keep the sacredness of life as one of our prayer inten ons. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Jesus began His public ministry with the invita on to repent and to believe. He is calling for an immediate response. This means that you and I are called to be people of reconcilia on and proclama on. Following the call of Jesus enables us to make a difference in the lives of others. The Gospel of Jesus is the Gospel of life and the Gospel of joy. We are called to let our lives be influenced by hope. Reflec ons on Forgiveness and The Sacrament of Reconcilia on It is of major importance that all of us understand how serious forgiveness is for the health of our spiritual lives. In recent history the Sacrament of Reconcilia on is not understood or fully appreciated for the inner healing it brings. The confessing of sins and receiving absolu on can help us to feel be er about life and ourselves. In addi on receiving forgiveness from God and others can help us to experience God s love, remove resentment and increase gra tude. It is always quite clearly a means to inner peace. We may also need to let go of our own hurts and pains and forgive others as well as ourselves. When we do not forgive ourselves or hold resentments toward others we hurt ourselves. When we do not forgive others we hurt ourselves. Many mes when we reconcile with others we bring them and ourselves great comfort and hope. OPEN HOUSE ST.
