3 A Note From The Pastor Next weekend at all of the Masses, we will have our Annual Collec on for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). Please see the Le er from Cardinal-Designate Cupich later in this bulle n, and please donate to help the poor among us. Special thanks to Leslie Hazinski and her Family, the Dunlaps, the McFarlins, and all of the other OLH Parishioners who worked hard, and gave so generously of their me to create a wonderful All Saints Day Party. It truly was a huge success with about 50 people par cipa ng. Events such as these bring the faith into our lives, making our faith a part of our culture. Recently, the Va can s Congrega on for the Doctrine of the Faith issued an Instruc on, To Rise With Christ, regarding burial rites involving ashes/cremated remains of the deceased. Actually, there has been no change in the rules governing crema on. Rather, in issuing this Instruc on, the Congrega on noted that the prac ce of crema on has notably increased in many countries, but simultaneously new ideas contrary to the Church s faith have also become widespread. Specifically, To Rise With Christ is addressing prac ces in society which have grown in popularity in recent years in regard to the care of cremated remains a er death: the separa on or sca ering of ashes, the retaining or display of ashes in one s home, or the use of ashes in the crea on of jewelry. In all of these cases, the Instruc on reiterates the Church s firm belief in the respec ul care of ashes/cremated remains of the departed, such that the ashes of the faithful must be laid to rest in a sacred place, that is, in a cemetery or, in certain cases, in a Church or an area, which has been set aside for this purpose. Reminding us of the ancient prac ce of burying the bodies of the deceased prevents the faithful departed from being forgo en, or their remains from being shown a lack of respect. Catholic Cemeteries has some helpful informa on regarding crema on on their website. I encourage you to visit for more informa on on the new Instruc on, as well as other per nent informa on regarding Catholic burials, and ministry to the grieving. In this month of November, let us con nue to pray for our beloved dead, and let us also reach out to the poor in deed and in our prayers. God Bless, Fr. Paul November 13, 2016 Thirty-Third Sunday In Ordinary Time 3

6 Pilgrim Virgin Statue Home Visita on Program Are you in need of answers to prayers? Do you desire more peace and unity in your family? Do you want to increase your devo on to Our Blessed Mother? Are you seeking a special grace to help with life s latest challenge? Are you looking for a way to thank Our Lady for blessings already received? If you answered yes to any of the above ques ons, then please consider invi ng Our Blessed Mother to come stay at your home. Visits generally last one week, and are facilitated by members of the Our Lady of Humility Legion of Mary. There are prayers for both the arrival and farewell days that last between minutes, and include the Rosary. Families are encouraged to pray the Rosary together every day while Our Lady is visi ng. (We have How to Pray the Rosary pamphlets and rosaries available for those who request them.) Our Mother Mary wants nothing more than to bring us closer to her Son, Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. She is pa ently wai ng to assist us in all of life s necessi es. Praying the Rosary every day is a great way to deepen your prayer life. The more we honor the Blessed Virgin, the more we honor Jesus Christ because we honor Mary only to more perfectly honor Jesus, since we go to her only to find the end we are seeking, which is Jesus. (St. Louis de Mon ort). Please contact Peggy at (847) to schedule a visit, or if you have any ques ons. 6 Welcome to Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church

7 Small Group Retreat For Marian Consecra on 33 Days To Morning Glory By Fr. Michael Gaitley Are you ready to learn the quickest, surest, and easiest way to holiness? Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa both knew that the quickest way to be transformed into a Saint is through a rela onship with Our Blessed Mother, Mary. The Legion of Mary is sponsoring a Marian Consecra on Small Group Retreat. Please join us next Saturday, November 19th, as we con nue a 33-day prepara on for Marian Consecra on, which will take place on Thursday, December 8th, on the Feast of the Immaculate Concep on. We started the Small Group Retreat on Saturday, November 5th. Our Small Group Retreat will meet for four consecu ve Saturday mornings (November 19th, 26th, December 3rd, and 10th) from 9:15-10:45AM in the Holy Child Center. At the weekly mee ngs, we share insights within our small groups, and then watch a 30-minute video. The video by popular Author and Speaker, Fr. Each week we will focus on one of the following Great Marian Giants: St. Louis de Mon ort, St. Maximillian Kolbe, St. Mother Teresa, and St. Pope John Paul II. They will teach us the secrets of drawing closer to the Heart of Jesus through the Heart of Mary. If you are looking for a simple way to be spiritually renewed, develop a deeper rela onship with Our Merciful Savior, and grow in holiness, join us for 33 Days To Morning Glory Small Group Retreat. 8 Eucharis c Adora on Why Exposi on Of The Blessed Sacrament? If we can adore the Eucharis c presence of Christ when reposed in a tabernacle, why do we then need to expose the Blessed Sacrament on an altar? It is not essen al for exposi on to take place to have Eucharis c Adora on, yet people report experiencing a greater sense of in macy with Jesus, and a en veness of mind and heart to prayer when they are able to actually see our Eucharis c Lord. Moreover, according to Church regula ons, exposing the Blessed Sacrament for a period of me requires the presence of a sufficient number of people to be there, and therefore, fosters the commitment needed to establish and sustain a meaningful Parish Eucharis c Adora on Program. But the best reason for having exposi on of the Blessed Sacrament, is simply that God wills it. During His Eucharis c discourse, Jesus made this unmistakably clear: Indeed, this is the will of My Heavenly Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son, and believes in Him, shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day. ( John 6:40). Do something special this Fall, please consider coming to Eucharis c Adora on on Thursdays at 1PM, where you will have an opportunity to spend me with the Lord Jesus, in the Blessed Sacrament each week where we can ASK HIM anything. Come, bring your whole family, spend some me with the Lord, and receive His blessings! He is wai ng for you! Save The Date! Annual Breakfast With Santa & Cra Fair! 9 Empathe c Mercy By John Michael Talbot Empathe c Mercy is wri en by John Michael Talbot, who is a bestselling author and pioneering recording ar st. We pray for others from the bowels of Mercy. In every major office of the Liturgy of the Hours, and in the Mass, we include intercessions. All the Greek words indicate that Mercy means both sympathy and an empathy that is deeply compassionate. Having sympathy means to be compassionate from the outside in. But empathy is something far more. Having empathy means to be compassionate from the inside out. It means to get right inside the person we care about, and understand him or her from the inside out. It is from the bowels. But some mes we do not even understand ourselves, much less others (see Romans 7:15). In his Confessions, St. Augus ne says, you were within me, but I was outside. Jesus says it is all about love. He says, Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends ( John 15:13-14). This is the amazing love of Jesus Christ. This is a real intercession that God loves us so much that He gave His life for us personally. From eternity God knows every joy and sorrow, every tragedy and triumph, every laughter and every tear. It is personal, in mate, and life-changing! Scripture is filled with asking for and offering prayers for those alive, and even raising the dead with those prayers. What about praying for the dead? Jesus teaches in the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus that there is no need to communicate with the dead if someone won t first listen to God, and those He sent in history. (See Luke 16:19-31). But this is not the same as praying for the departed, and asking departed Saints to pray for us. This was already a clear part of Judaism in the me of Christ, and it was the prac ce of the first Chris ans. We know that the catacombs in Rome, which gave a clear window into the worship and beliefs of the earliest Chris ans, contain prayers for the dead, and prayers asking for the intercession of the saintly dead in Christ. The basic belief is that nothing, neither life nor death, can separate us from the love of Christ. Our communion union as a united people in that love of Christ cannot be broken even in death. Love defies the limita ons of me and space. Submi ed by Irene Halteman Classic Italy Upcoming Trip With Fr. Joe Cur s For a number of years a classmate of Fr. Joe s, Fr. Rich, and Fr.
