REFLECTIONS I hope you all have had a wonderfully blessed summer break! That means it s me to begin gearing up for back to school. So, I hope everyone has cleaned out their closets to make room for all the new school clothes. Speaking of cleaning out closets, the HSE Board and a few community members cleaned out Carol s Closet a few weeks ago. Supplies should now be a lot easier to find. Check out these pictures of the folks being the Hands and Feet of Christ for our Community! I d like to take the me to remind everyone that private schools are already in full swing, and public schools start back on Wednesday, August 26. We all need to be mindful of school zones, and watching out for the children in our communi es. Please be in prayer for our teachers as they prepare to educate our children who are the future of this great na on. On the Hi Sky Emmaus front Men s Walk #223 currently has 5 pilgrims, and Women s Walk #224 has 3 pilgrims. Please join me in con nued prayer and support of the teams and the pilgrims of both of these Walks. I know these Walks will be the best Walks ever! So, let s all sponsor, sponsor, sponsor, and gi someone else with the beau ful experience that is so close to our hearts. To God be the glory!!! Mar n Ramirez, Community Lay Director 1

4 Reasons to Participate in a... REUNION GROUP 1. Grace! Reunion groups help each other live a life of grace. 2. Piety! The group helps to keep each other focused on living our lives in rela onship with God. 3. Ac on! Reunion groups work together to provide meals for team mee ngs, provide gi /food agape for walks and service opportuni es within the larger community. 4. The Big Things! Reunion groups provide support for each other for the big moments in life. They a end funerals, births, weddings, gradua ons, hospital stays for each other. 5. The Li le Things! Reunion groups are there for the li le things too. They cheer each other on always in everything. 6. Spiritual Friends! Reunion groups listen more deeply to you than you can listen to yourself. The group helps keep the fire burning within each other. 7. Prayer! A reunion group will be there for each other in mes of need to intercede for each other in prayer. 8. Accountability! Group members hold each other accountable to your weekly plan of ac on. 9. Non Emmaus! Reunion groups are not isolated to Emmaus pilgrims only. The purpose of the group reunion isn t about the Walk to Emmaus. It is to share faith and live Christ, which isn t exclusive to the Walk to Emmaus. You can invite non Emmaus Chris ans to your reunion group. 10. Perseverance! Perseverance never happens alone. A reunion group supports each other as we walk together in our 4th days. The group reunion itself is one of the chief values of the Emmaus movement one of the greatest treasures the Walk to Emmaus contains. It is a way of persevering in the life of grace so that those things that are valuable to you during the weekend will not be lost when you return to your life in the world the group reunion serves the life of the Emmaus community. Day Four: The Pilgrim s Con nued Journey Food for Thought COBBLERS & CREAM If you missed the Ice Cream Social at the last Community mee ng, there is s ll me to get your share. 5 TUESDAY, AUGUST 25th Our Savior s Lutheran Church 3309 Neely Ave. Babe-Chick: Gathering: 6:15 p.m. 7:00 p.m. Fellowship: 8:15 p.m. Gree ngs, Community! I just wanted to let you know there are three ways to turn in reserva on requests for Walks or for a Chrysalis. You can (1) send them mail to P.O. Box 10370, Midland TX, 79702); (2) mail to my home at 2101 Mark Ln, Midland, TX 79707; or, (3) hand deliver to my home as there is a locked mailbox on the front porch labeled Emmaus. Please keep the pilgrims coming. Let s fill these walks to overflowing! Ashley Tercero, Registrar The Importance Projects Play in the Learning Process The methodology of talk, silence, discussion, summaries with representa ons (aka projects ), and sharing at the end of each evening is a learning process that is integral to The Walk to Emmaus and all of it is designed to make it possible for everyone to par cipate. Silent Medita on provides me for everyone to meditate on the content of the message before talking about it. Discussion and Projects bring out the best in both the talkers and the doers. Those more a uned to concepts and those more a uned to images can encourage each to learn through the strengths of the other. Real learning not only results from new, ra onal understandings but also from people s opportuni es to reflect and share talk messages through images of themselves, life and God. Project Summary me provides invent and develop their own holding and appropria ng the an opportunity for pilgrims to representa ons of the talks for truth they receive on the Walk. Requiring each table to present joint summaries and posters, skits, songs, etc. in the evening, also challenges the pilgrims and affords each the opportunity to work together on common tasks and to become a community of persons who respect one another s gi s. Sharing all the summaries and provides a way to rehearse and images of the whole day s en re community. projects at once in the evening present the main ideas and message, while having fun as an The total Learning Process is intended to facilitate learning that is both informa onal and forma onal, to s mulate rich dialogue and interac on, and to foster development of rela onships at the tables around a common task.
