3 A Note From The Pastor As you probably have no ced, the lights in our Church have been updated with LED Bulbs (5,000K). There have been some comments by parishioners who would prefer LED Bulbs similar in color (so er light, 2,700K) as we had before the update. The so er light matches our Church environment, whereas the blue-white light clashes. Here are some suggested, possible scenarios: Keep the ligh ng in Church as is at no addi onal cost. Change all ligh ng in Church to 2,700K LED (So er Light): This will cost us $600 as we cannot return the Bulbs currently purchased. We have also already purchased, but not received, 5,000K LED Bulbs for the Cove. Richard McFarlin will see if we have the op on of exchanging them for the 2,700K Bulbs. If not, there would be an addi onal $360 Cost (for a total of $960). Change only the Bulbs in the center of the Church to 2,700K LED: This would cost us $280 (Plus $360 if we cannot return the 5,000K Cove Bulbs). We have changed the Bulbs in one of the hanging chandeliers in the center of the Church with the so er 2,700K LED Bulbs. Please take a look at it, and next weekend there will be an insert in the bulle n to let us know your thoughts on which op on you would prefer. Please note that this year s Annual Catholic Appeal Collec on will be the weekend of February 18th-19th, in two weeks. There will be addi onal informa on in next week s bulle n. On Sunday, February 26th, the Holy Family Catholic Book Store will be at Our Lady of Humility in the School Lobby a er all of the Masses. They will have their selec on of Bap sm, First Communion, and Confirma on Gi s, as well as other gi s such as Bibles, Rosaries, Religious Medals, Wall Crosses and Crucifixes, Prayer Books, and Children s Books for purchase. Finally, a reminder that we will have our Parish Lenten Mission on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, March 5th-7th at 7PM in the Church. Please plan on a ending. Deacon Keith Strohm will give the Mission. 4 Christ First Teen Ministry Again this year, the Christ First Teens will be par cipa ng in the Souper Bowl of Caring. This is a teen-led na onal movement that raises money for local food-related chari es. It is held every year on Super Bowl Weekend (this weekend February 4th and 5th this year). Each of the last ten years, parishioners donated over $1,000 to Our Lady of Humility s Food Pantry. This event challenges every person in a endance at all of the Masses to donate one dollar (more is be er) to the soup pots that will be held by the Christ First Teens at the doors of the Church. Let s tackle hunger together! Co-Ed Senior Luncheon The next Co-Ed Senior Luncheon, will be held on Tuesday, February 14th, on St. Valen ne s Day, at 12 Noon in the Parish Center. We will have homemade soup, bread, and desserts. We are in need of 8-10 people who will volunteer to make a pot of soup. There is a sign-up sheet in the Ves bule between the Church and Parish Center. We also need desserts. The bread and bu er will be provided. Please sign-up to a end by next Sunday, February 12th. All Co-Ed Seniors are welcome. We hope to see you there! Thursday, February 23rd, is Our Lady of Humility s commitment to provide volunteers to help with the Soup Kitchen at Holy Family Services (the old St. Bartholomew Parish) located at: 914 8th Street, Waukegan. It is always the fourth Thursday of every month. Food prepara on begins at 3PM, dinner is served at 5:30PM, followed by clean-up. We are usually done by 7PM. Paul and the Staff would like to extend a huge Thank You to all of our parishioners who so very generously now, or in the past, have given of their time to help us keep our Parish running smoothly and looking beautiful! Particular Thanks goes to: Juanita and Tony Alfaro, Diane Wilczenski, Emily and Don DuPree, and Gloria Askew, for their time and efforts spent on the beautification and care of the Church, and the altar linens. To all of the families who so generously bring fresh flowers for the altar on a weekly basis, we Thank You! Thank You to all of our prior green thumbs, and our current volunteer gardeners who have recently helped beautify our Statue of Mary in front of the Church. Thank You to all of our wonderful Vocalists and Musicians who participate in our Masses to help sing our praises to God! Thank You to all of our wonderful Catechists and Office Assistants who are helping to spread the knowledge and the word of Christ by educating the children of our community in the Catholic Faith. We also want to Thank our Food Pantry Volunteers and Helping Hands Volunteers who allow our Parish to help so many families in need. A huge Thank You goes to Richard McFarlin and his crew of volunteers for the many, many projects he assists with here at the Parish and the School. Thank You also to our Knights of Columbus who very generously give of their time and effort to help our Parish thrive. Special Thanks for the Outdoor Stations of the Cross, as well as the new pavers, and clean-up around the Church and the Statue of Mary. We would like to also Thank our Parish Pastoral Council Members, our Finance Council Members, and our Principal s Advisory Council Members whose time and input are such an important part of running a Parish and School. God bless you all for your ministries for our Parish! The Legion Of Mary Is Hos ng A Consoling The Heart Of Jesus Retreat By: Fr. Michael Gaitley 33 Days To Morning Glory led us to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Stage One, Part I. In Part II, Consoling The Heart Of Jesus, we will learn about God s Infinite Mercy, and how we can give Him joy, consoling His heart, by accep ng His love, and trus ng in Him completely. We will discover how suffering can actually help us grow spiritually closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Even though the Retreat started this past Saturday, February 4th, it is not too late to join us. We will be mee ng for 9 consecu ve weeks from 9:15AM un l 11AM in the Holy Child Center. Each week we will watch a DVD, and then break into small groups for discussion. Par cipants should also expect to read a Chapter in their Consoling The Heart Of Jesus Book each week. At the end of each mee ng, you will receive a handout. The handout is designed to help you get the most out of that week s assigned reading. It also forms the basis for the next week s small group discussion. (The DVD that you watch each week will then reinforce the reading.) You are welcome to join this Retreat even if you have not completed 33 Days To Morning Glory (Part 1) yet, or if you missed the first session. Also, you do not have to come every week to be part of this Retreat. If you have access to a computer, then you have the ability to make-up any missed DVDs on FORMED. 7 Our Lady Of Humility Women s Club News How are you doing with taking down your Christmas decora ons? Just a friendly reminder as you are taking them down, and perhaps thinking about ge ng rid of, changing your Christmas décor/theme, etc., please consider dona ng those items to the Our Lady of Humility Women s Club. You can drop off those items in the Church Ves bule (between the Church and Parish Center) in the 2 Blue Bins, and we will store them for our 2017 Holiday Bazaar. We are always looking for large baskets too! Our quarterly Cookbook Sale was a huge hit once again! As we con nue receiving Cookbook dona ons from parishioners (Church & School), we will con nue to have quarterly Cookbook Sales. We are constantly asked about the who, what, where, why, and how s of the Cookbook Sale, and how it got started. It evolved with a parishioner, an avid Cookbook Collector dona ng them to the Women s Club. It is amazing how these Cookbooks tell such a beau ful story about a place and me/era in our lives, especially the vintage Cookbooks. Our next quarterly Cookbook Sale will be on display at the Knights of Columbus Donut Sunday on April 16th. Our Kni ng Class was well received! Our Teacher, Valerie Perron, did an excellent job teaching seven women The Art of Kni ng as we learned to cast on. The group met again on Tuesday evening.
