3 A Note From The Pastor Next Sunday, December 4th, we will have our Annual All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast with Santa from 8AM un l 12:30PM in the Parish Center. All are invited. This Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent; we begin a new liturgical year. To help you enter into the spirit of Advent, please consider taking a copy of the Daily Reflec ons For Advent & Christmas Booklets [$1.00 dona on if possible]. These Booklets will be available at the doors of the Church. Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, and therefore, begins no earlier than November 27th, and no later than December 3rd. So this year, Advent begins as early as possible more me to prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas! The Church document, Universal Norms on the Liturgical Year and the General Roman Calendar, describes Advent in this way: Advent has a twofold character, for it is a me of prepara on for the Solemni es of Christmas, in which the First Coming of the Son of God to humanity is remembered, and likewise a me when, by remembrance of this, minds and hearts are led to look forward to Christ s Second Coming at the end of me. For these two reasons, Advent is a period of devout and expectant delight [#39]. The people of Israel had been wai ng for centuries for the Messiah to appear. Coming to Mass each Sunday during Advent should s r up within our hearts that ancient longing for the Savior, and it should renew within us a desire for His Second Coming. Like the Season of Lent, Advent is a peniten al season in which the liturgical color purple is used. Both are seasons of prepara on, but there is nevertheless a slight difference in character. Advent has a strong character of hope because it leads directly to the birth of a child. So, though a peniten al season preparing for the coming of the Lord, Advent is also accompanied with a very strong and lively sense of hope. During this season of Advent, I invite you to spend more me in prayer, so that you may welcome the Lord Jesus into your heart in a new way on Christmas Day. Please consider making these four weeks of Advent more about Jesus than anything else. God Bless, Fr. Paul November 27, 2016 First Sunday Of Advent 3

If you would like to help with this celebra on, please contact Minnie at (847) Monday, December 12, 2016 Holy Rosary begins at 6PM Spanish Mass begins at 7PM *************************************************************** In 1531, a Lady from Heaven appeared to Juan Diego, a humble Na ve American at Tepeyac, a hill northwest of what is now Mexico City. She iden fied Herself as the ever Virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for whom we live, of the Creator of all things, Lord of heaven and earth. She made a request for a Church to be built on the site, and Juan Diego submi ed Her wish to the local Bishop. When the Bishop hesitated, and requested a sign, the Mother of God obeyed without delay or ques on, sending Her na ve messenger to the top of the hill in mid-december to gather an assortment of roses for the Bishop. A er complying to the request for a sign, She le for us an image of Herself imprinted miraculously on the na ve s lma, a poor quality cactus-cloth, which should have deteriorated in 20 years, but shows no sign of decay a er more than 475 years later. It s ll defies all scien fic explana ons of its origin. Her message is of love and compassion, and a universal promise of help and protec on to all mankind. An incredible list of miracles, cures, and interven ons are a ributed to Her. Yearly, an es mated 10 million visit Her Basilica, making Her Mexico City home the most popular Marian Shrine in the world, and the most visited Catholic Church in the world next to the Va can. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated on December 12th. In 1999, Pope John Paul II, in his homily from the Solemn Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, during his third visit to the sanctuary, declared the date of December the 12th as a Liturgical Holy Day for the whole con nent. During the same visit, Pope John Paul II entrusted the cause of life to Her loving protec on, and placed under Her motherly care the innocent lives of children, especially those who are in danger of not being born. Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who am your Mother? Are you not under my protec on? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything.
