2 Page 2 Our Lady of Peace December 4, 2016 Dear Parishioners, O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him Christ the Lord! In just a few short weeks, this song will be proclaimed by our voices. We will be singing the refrain of O Come, All Ye Faithful, as we celebrate Christmas and the birth of our Lord. Advent is the me of prepara on for that great celebra on for the coming of our Lord. Every year as Chris ans we take me, in reverence and humility, to prepare ourselves and reflect on the fact that God has chosen to become human. On the mass of the day, of Christmas Day, we read from prologue of St. John s Gospel as it states the Word became flesh and made its dwelling among us. (John 1:14) The mystery of the Incarna on, which began with His concep on at the Annuncia on and then entered more fully through birth at Christmas, and as we gather at the Lord s altar, the Word becomes flesh, substan ally, really, and truly present in the Eucharist. Just as we are present to one another in this moment, so our Lord is present in a mysterious way in the appearances of that consecrated, fragile, and simple host. Because of this, we adore! We adore the Lord at Mass and we have the opportunity here at Our Lady of Peace to adore the Lord in Eucharis c Adora on. For more than 40 years, we have been able to adore and behold our Lord 24 hours a day, to behold our Lord and adore. For 168 hours a week, the parishioners of Our Lady of Peace are placing themselves before the Lord in prayer and adora on. This moment of Advent is a moment in which we can rediscover (or discover for the first me) the wonder of Eucharis c adora on. If you have never come to spend me with our Lord, please consider it. It is a precious gi that you can personally, freely, lovingly offer to our Lord, a moment of yourself and your precious me whether it is during the day or the hours of the night, to be with our Lord and to adore Him. I invite you to consider those blessings that come to us in such an encounter. During Advent, there are some recurring themes, in light of Eucharis c adora on I want to consider two. First, we are called in this season to cul vate a spirit of watchfulness and readiness. There will be a me in which the son of man will come again and we will stand before Him. When the me to welcome Him again, what does Jesus tell us to do? The Master Himself says: Be vigilant at all mes and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribula ons that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man. Our Lord says if we are in a right rela onship with Him than we have nothing to fear. My friends, might it be the case that we will only be able to respond to Jesus s invita on to stand before Him only a er we have knelt before Him in adora on of His presence in the Eucharist. In that in mate hour of prayer, we can spend and find that me with the Lord to be strengthened in our life s tribula ons against the enemy s a acks. Secondly, in this season there is a call to repent and turn towards the Gospel, which is conversion. Looking at Christ and allowing Him to look at you is a powerful moment of conversion. Jesus Himself said, for my Father s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day (Jn 6:40). We all are seeking the face of God. Consider that these words, He looked at him and loved him, (Mk 10:21) apply to each one of us, we should simply come and allow Him to look at us. And prayer, teaches the Catechism, is above all (on our part) the response to an invita on. We go and visit Him, because He has loved us first. (Cf., CCC 2567, 1 Jn 4:19) There is something within us that seeks the face of God and desires that look of love that alone can heal and perfect us. Come to visit Him, come let us adore Him.
