2 Page 2 Our Lady of Peace April 1, 2018 Dear Friends, Resurexit Sicut Dixit, Alleluia! With these words, He has risen as He said, I would like to extend to you my warmest good wishes to you this Easter Sunday. Today we are reminded of the cloud of witnesses, all of the holy men and women who have gone before us to proclaim to the world that Christ is Risen, indeed He is Risen. The truth of this event has been passed along to you and to me as a living testimony: from Mary Magdalene, to St. Peter, St. John, St. Paul; the doctors of the Church like St. Augustine, St. Jerome, St. John Chrysostom; the great saints who bore testimony of Christ s life, St. Francis, St. Dominic, St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. Benedict; up to very recent memory in St. John Paul II, St. Theresa of Calcutta; and the Martyrs of every single age from St. Stephen to the Christians who are dying every day for the faith. This communion of faithful witnesses has imparted the message, the Good News, that Jesus Christ has won victory over sin and death. Jesus Christ and His disciples say to us that the practice of the faith in Jesus Christ is not of the dead but for the living. It is not a simple set of rituals that we follow, empty and without true interior conversion, but it is a person Jesus Christ and His testimony is true. That is why we are here this day, April 1, 2018, because we confess the belief that On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. (cf., Nicene Creed) I who have received the message, what have I done with it? What do I do with it? Has the message stopped with me? Do I bear testimony as Jesus Himself instructs His disciples to do: Do not be afraid, go and tell... Tertullian once wrote that A saint is a summary of the gospel; his good example makes others love virtue and leads them to practice it. Each of his actions condemns evil and sin. We are called to bear witness to His story the Good News. The life, death and Resurrection of Jesus, the whole thing. We bear witness to His life, how He has loved us and asked us to love one another in the same way (I give you a new commandment). We show to the world that His death is the path to life, how He was abandoned by all of his friends, rejected and scorn, stripped of His clothes and died the poor death on the cross, and all the while he remained silent, forgiving, sincerely loving His persecutors. He loves us more than anything the riches that he deserved he did not assume, the power and the respect that surely was to be awarded to Him he chose hiddenness and silence instead; the triumphal entrance into Jerusalem and the long awaited hour was not by realizing temporal kingship, but by realizing the words of the prophet Isaiah: He was spurned and avoided by people, a man of suffering, accustomed to infirmity, one of those from whom people hide their faces, spurned, and we held him in no esteem. And why, we may ask. Why was it all in this way? Because of Love! So, as St. Paul encourages us: be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and handed himself over for us as a sacrificial offering to God for a fragrant aroma. (Eph 5:1-2) He has given us the glory of the resurrection. We have been baptized and we have received the light of Christ let us keep it burning brightly. So we may, like the sun rising upon the darkest of night, illumine those around us with the light of Christ s truth the humble savior who suffered, died and rose so that we may all have life. Parish Office Closed The parish office will be closed April 2nd for Easter Monday. The Mass schedule will remain the same. Feast of the Annunciation will be celebrated on Monday, April 9th at 5:15pm. Please RSVP for the dinner reception by calling the parish office and giving your name, phone number, and the number of those in your party. Easter Open House All are invited to come to the parish office open house on Friday, April 6th from 5pm to 9pm. Friday Family Fun Nights Come join us for the parish family nights each Friday in the Family Learning Center from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Train Rides, Photo Booths, Coloring Stations 10am-2pm. Divine Mercy Novena Begins on Good Friday (March 30th) at 3:00pm and continues every day until Saturday, April 7th. Novena Prayers and Homily are recited in the church, every day at 3:00 pm. Jesus asked that the Feast of the Divine Mercy be preceded by a Novena to the Divine Mercy which would begin on Good Friday. He gave St. Faustina an intention to pray for on each day of the Novena.
