It is a place of prayer & pilgrimage with: Perpetual adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary Frequent celebration of the Sacraments, particularly the Eucharist and Reconciliation Integrated formation of the person (spiritual, moral, intellectual and emotional)

2 Page 2 Our Lady of Peace October 16, 2016 Dear Parishioners, In his masterpiece, The City of God, St. Augus ne writes: Do you wish to be great? Then begin by being.... The higher your structure is to be, the deeper must be its founda on. Our Lady of Peace, as our mission statement reads, is dedicated to the greater glory of God and the salva on of souls and this is something founda onal personally and collec vely. This is the echoes the very mission of our Lord Jesus Christ, i.e., to glorify the Father and who desires all men to be saved. In his spiritual exercises, St. Igna us of Loyola, calls this the principle and founda on, because everything that we do follows from or rests upon this truth giving glory to God, saving our souls, and bringing as many along with us as possible. The very word dedicate comes from the La n word dedicare, which means to be devoted to or consecrated to something. We are dedicated to the greater glory of God and the salva on of souls! And following the logic of St. Augus ne the deeper each one of us devotes ourselves to this founda on, the higher will the structure reach. This is the vision that Msgr. Sweeny had for Our Lady of Peace and one that we con nue to try to uphold with great dedica on. His words are posted on a sign in the parish office that reads: In Heaven we shall rest, while we are s ll here let us consider our work and prayer a privilege. God depends upon our faithfulness, and so do countless human beings who will be saved because of our efforts. As a parish we are res ng upon a firm founda on that is built upon: the recita on of the rosary every hour on the hour, frequent celebra on and assistance at Masses, readily available confessions, all-night vigils, perpetual adora on, Eucharis c and Marian processions, novenas and countless other acts of faith. And in all humility, these works are entrusted to the Holy Spirit, in union with Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. All of these things are part of the construct of Our Lady of Peace, but it is always good to return to the why? about the things we do. It is important to rediscover this mission so that we may increase our zeal and devo on towards the very prac ces that we hold so dear. It will also help us to hand on to the new members of Our Lady of Peace and the younger genera on of parishioners the share that they have in our mission. We are here to give glory to God and the salva on of souls. This is central to the message of our Lady of Fa ma, a message that is integral to the very fabric of our Church and Shrine many souls go to Hell because there is no one to pray and make sacrifices for them. In light of this summons, today, the truth of Our Lady of Peace speaks of more than 40 years of souls dedicated to prayer and sacrifice for the conversion of sinners. It is a truth that we must know, it is a truth that we must love, and it is a truth that (as we sit here in these pews and read this bulle n) has been entrusted to each and every one of us. May we help one another to fulfill this august mission by leading souls to Jesus through the motherly heart of Mary. You and I, whether new or lifelong parishioners, are stewards of this mission, and as such we become an integral means to carrying out God s message of hope, healing, peace and salva on for souls in a me that is most necessary. We must begin by being, says St. Augus ne, that is to say each one of us must embody the mission of Our Lady of Peace and carry it out as our own. It is not his or her mission, this guy s or that lady s, but it is the mission of each one of us. May we become a force against the forces of the world. We have the two most endearing and influen al forces on our side the welcoming arms of a pure and loving mother and the Sacred Heart enthroned in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Indeed, the mission may seem daun ng and beyond any one of our capaci es, but we have the very best support that the history of me has ever offered, can ever offer, or will ever offer: Jesus and Mary. May we have the courage to lead souls to the peace and the joy that the world cannot offer and do it for the greater glory of God! Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us, Fr.
