It is my prayerful desire that your souls may overflow with joy because, as Pope Francis said: Love has triumphed, mercy has been victorious! During the Easter Vigil we heard the words from chapter one of the Book of Genesis: Fiat lux; faciamus hominem (Let there be light; let us make man) and on this Easter morning those words find their fullest meaning: that light is the new light which will never fade; that man is the new man created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. (Eph. 4:24) Indeed, Easter is the feast of the new creation. Jesus is risen and dies no more. This is why the early Church writer, Tertullian, could boldly affirm: Rest assured, flesh and blood, through Christ you have gained your place in heaven and in the Kingdom of God (CCL II, 994). Yes! In the mystery of Christ s death and resurrection all is redeemed, and everything becomes once more perfectly good, according to God s original plan. On Holy Saturday as we pass the light from the Paschal candle to our candles we hear this beautiful proclamation: May the light of Christ, rising in glory, dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds! How true and profound these words sound on Easter night! This light represents the light that Christ brought to us, the light of truth and the fire of love that transform man s being. The liturgy wants to demonstrate that the night on the Mount of Olives, the solar eclipse of Jesus passion and death, the night of the grave had all passed. Now it is the first day once again creation is beginning anew. Let there be light, says God, and there was light: Jesus rises from the grave. Therefore, we need to live with the firm conviction that life is stronger than death. Good is stronger than evil. Love is stronger than hate. Truth is stronger than lies. The darkness of the previous days is driven away the moment Jesus rises from the grave and himself becomes God s pure light. (cf. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, 2012) Also during the Easter season you will see the Easter candle being lit during Mass. I invite you to reflect on this symbol that most of the time goes unnoticed and yet silently teaches us an important lesson. The light of the Easter candle is a light that lives from sacrifice. The candle shines inasmuch as it is burnt up. It gives light, inasmuch as it gives itself. In this regard I am reminded of certain passages of the Encyclical Lumen Fidei where we read: The light of Christ shines, as in a mirror, upon the face of Christians; as it spreads, it comes down to us, so that we too can share in that vision and reflect that light to others, in the same way that, in the Easter liturgy, the light of the paschal candle lights countless other candles. Faith is passed on, we might say, by contact, from one person to another, just as one candle is lighted from another. (cf. 37) These words of the Holy Father present to us once more the mystery of the vocation of every baptized person. They express the hope that the new life which we receive as a gift, the most holy night of the Easter Vigil should grow to its fullest, bringing abundant fruits of love, joy and peace, the fruits of eternal life. Let me finish with a line of the prayer to our Lady that Pope Francis includes in Evangelii Gaudium: Obtain for us a new ardor of the resurrection. As we sing the Easter Sequence Scimus Christum surrexisse a mortuis vere let us reaffirm our conviction in the fact that Christ has truly risen from the dead. Let us pray to the Lord at this time that He may grant us to experience the joy of his light; let us pray that we ourselves may become bearers of his light, and that through us, Christ s radiant face may enter our family, our parish, our world (cf. Lumen Gentium, 1). My prayerful good wishes for a happy and spiritually enriching season of Easter to all. Happy Easter! May God bless you! Fr. The Eucharist is the actual body, blood, soul, and divinity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. By adoring the Eucharist we are reminded in a very tangible way of God s love for humanity and his promise to mankind, 168 HOURS in a week. It takes ~336 people to keep adora on going 24/7, and another 75 adorers as subs tutes. That is a total of 411 people. Will you be among the few? Perpetual adora on is forever, but one s life changes over me. Don t be afraid to commit to adora on, even if you might have to change your commitment in the future. The Divine Mercy Novena Jesus asked that the Feast of the Divine Mercy be preceded by a Novena to the Divine Mercy which would begin on Good Friday. He gave St. Faustina an intention to pray for on each day of the Novena, saving for the last day the most difficult intention of all, the lukewarm and indifferent of whom He said: "These souls cause Me more suffering than any others; it was from such souls that My soul felt the most revulsion in the Garden of Olives. It was on their account that I said: 'My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass Me by.' The last hope of salvation for them is to flee to My Mercy." In her diary, St. Faustina wrote that Jesus told her: "On each day of the novena you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy... On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls." The different souls prayed for on each day of the novena are: DAY 1 (Good Friday) - All mankind, especially sinners DAY 2 (Holy Saturday) - The souls of priests and religious DAY 3 (Easter Sunday) - All devout and faithful souls DAY 4 (Easter Monday) - Those who do not believe in Jesus and those who do not yet know Him DAY 5 (Easter Tuesday) - The souls of separated brethren DAY 6 (Easter Wednesday) - The meek and humble souls and the souls of children DAY 7 (Easter Thursday) - The souls who especially venerate and glorify Jesus' mercy DAY 8 (Easter Friday) - The souls who are detained in purgatory; DAY 9 (Easter Saturday) - The souls who have become lukewarm. During the Solemn Novena leading to Divine Mercy Sunday, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy should be offered each day for the day's intentions. From Good Friday (April 18) to Easter Saturday (April 26) the novena will be prayed in the Church at 3PM.
