2 Page 2 Our Lady of Peace December 11, 2016 Dear Parishioners, One of the unavoidable confronta ons that each one of us will have each Advent Season is with the Prophet! The alarming figure, dressed in animal skins ea ng locusts and honey, the voice crying out in the wilderness, St. John the Bap st. God sends prophets to be a sign of contradic on. Whenever everything is going the wrong direc on, God sends the prophet to say: Stop! Turn around, we are heading in the wrong direc on! We need to head towards God and not away from Him. The Gospel tells us that when Jesus came as the light, the world preferred darkness. It s ll does. Through the light of bap sm, you and I are called to be the light of the world, knowing that we will find that people will s ll prefer darkness. Even more, through our bap sm, we were bap zed into the reality of Christ as priest, prophet and king. We are prophets, called to stand against the de, to be a sign of contradic on, to point out the truth. This is what we are called to do and it s not popular. It is not an easy thing being a prophet. So, when we look around us, what does the world look like? Is the world in need of prophets? We are God s response, we can sit here and curse the darkness, but what good does that do? It is me to stop looking around and shou ng at the darkness around us, but it is me instead to be a light of the world. Jesus has said that He has come to light a fire and how he wished it was already blazing. What is that fire? You and me alive in the Holy Spirit. You and I filled with the power to be prophets. We are to be on fire with divine charity. We are to bring the light of the truth of the Gospel into the world. You and I are called to be signs of contradic on and even division, so that the world may know the path to be freed from this darkness. How do we do it? It seems insurmountable for me, for I am too young (parents pass this along to your children to read), or I am too old (children pass this along to your parents to read), I am not holy enough or know enough I ll let someone else do it. The answer is simple, it is the answer of the saints, the martyrs, our life must be centered on Christ peacefully, joyfully, rooted in Christ. We are made to have a life of daily prayer that we may be rooted firmly in Christ. So, we are not swept along by the de. We must have a deep personal connec on with Jesus Christ, because few will sacrifice themselves for some abstract concept, or even for a distant historical person. We need to be so filled with God s love that we fall in love with God and on account of that love, we are willing to make whatever sacrifices that must be made. The beau ful example that we have all around our church is the candle. Think of a candle in a dark room. How does that candle provide light for that room at the cost of itself. The candle is consumed as it burns, in order to give light. You and I must be ready to make sacrifices. Think about your life, we spend TONS of energy on arranging things here on earth, do I really think that God cares about my investment por olio? Or my Facebook page? Or is He concerned about me being the light of the world? How much of my energy goes into these things instead of me being the light of the world? You and I need to be ready to be the light of the world. It would be easier to not rock the boat at all, to just go with the flow. But we must ask ourselves honestly, where is the boat heading? Is it safe to be in that boat and go with the flow? It is me to burn brightly, to let Christ light that blaze within us. It is me to be God s response to the darkness. To be a prophet is hard. Therefore, we must pray every day, despite our weakness and limita ons, so that we may be faithful. Prayer to keep alive the reason to be a prophet. We must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of our faith. Because, for the sake of the JOY that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. (Heb 12:2) On this Gaudete Sunday, we celebrate and remember the triumph of light. We need to keep the hope of heaven alive in our hearts. The joy of John the Bap st shows that living in God's love begins here below. It is the joy of the kingdom of God His presence here and now. But the joy is given on a steep road which requires a total confidence in God, and a preference given to the kingdom. Mary, Our Lady of Peace, pray for us! Fr. Family Corner From the Nican Mopohua, the narration of Our Lady of Guadalupe s apparition to Saint Juan Diego He (Juan Diego) prostrated himself in her presence. He listened to her voice, her words, which give great, great glory, which were extremely kind, as if from someone who was drawing him toward her and esteemed him highly. She said to him, Listen, my dearest and youngest son, Juan, where are you going? And he answered her: My Lady, my Queen, my Little Girl, I am going as far as your little house in Mexico-Tlatilolco, to follow the things of God that are given to us, that are taught to us by the ones who are the images of Our Lord: our priests. Then she talks with him, she reveals her precious will: Know, know for sure, my dearest and youngest son that I am the perfect ever Virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the One Great God of Truth Who gives Life, the Inventor and Creator of the people, the Owner and Lord of what is around us and what is touching us or very close to us, the Owner and Lord of the Sky, the Owner of the earth.
