2 Page 2 Our Lady of Peace June 25, 2017 Dear Friends, This past Friday we celebrated the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart and by the grace of God were able to offer a novena of masses as an act of love and reparation. Devotion to His Sacred Heart is an invitation to make Christ loved, to help people decide to love, to choose to live for Christ. We are His friends and in His mysterious love for us He expresses His eagerness for our cooperation. Actually, He could do this on His own, in a split second. He could do everything Himself in the blink of an eye. He prefers, however, to unite His work with our clumsy, feeble, and sometimes disloyal efforts. Why? Because He loves each and every one of us so much that He wants us to share in His happiness, to share in the work of salvation, to help save souls, which is what our hearts long for love! He then, made twelve promises which be fulfilled if we work to spread the love of His Heart to others, for love of Him and His Kingdom, the mystical body. Here they are: The Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary (1) "I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life. (2) I will establish peace in their homes. (3) will comfort them in all their afflictions. (4) I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death. (5) I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings. (6) Sinners will find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy. (7) Lukewarm souls shall become fervent. (8) Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection. (9) I will bless every place in which an image of my Heart is exposed and honored. (10) I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts. (11) Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart. (12) I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment." My dear friends, we are invited through this devotion to Enthrone Jesus as the King of Love. That He reigns in my heart, in my family, in my home, society, city, etc. We are invited to try and truly bring about a civilization of love. The place that we must begin to make Christ Lord and King is in our homes. Enthroning an image of the Sacred Heart in the Home is a way in which we may make the home a place where Jesus is loved and reparation is made through frequent communion, prayer and sacrifice. The Sacred Heart, placed in a prominent place then becomes a reminder of that profoundly humble invitation of the Son of Man to include me in His work of redemption. It becomes a sign (in the home) of His love for me and my family, as well as the call to lay down our lives for one another. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary reign in our Homes and in our families. We ask Mary this day, our Immaculate Queen, to work a great miracle in Christian homes for the glory of Jesus and to close the gates of hell to many souls. Instill in our hearts a passionate love of Jesus that will lift us above the foolishness of the world and to make Jesus loved, by our love for one another. Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us, Fr. Summer Oratory Dinner/Meal Sign-Ups There are still 2 more days needed to fill up all the dinners for the visiting seminarians and sisters. If you, your group, family or friends would like to do a meal for the summer oratory, please contact Grace in the rectory office. Modesty in Clothing Please be mindful, especially during these hot days, of modesty in clothing when dressing for Holy Mass. One s attire should not distract from another s prayer. Appropriate apparel should not be tight-fitting or revealing (for both men and women). Our attention should be focused towards the Lord. Thank you for all your years of service (both times!) here at Our Lady of Peace. We pray that you and the parish will flourish, and that your defense of your thesis for your PhD goes well. 6 Page 6 Our Lady of Peace June 25, 2017 SPOTS STILL AVAILABLE August 2017 Iconography Workshop The next iconography workshop at St. Basil the Great Byzantine Catholic Church in Los Gatos will be held on the weekends of August 4 to 6 and 11 to 13, Our teacher will be Mr. Raymond Vincent. The icon that will be painted for this workshop is the Theotokos of the Sign, the line drawing for which is shown to the left. (Completed versions can be found on the internet.) This workshop is especially aimed at high school and college students, so please help spread the word about the workshop, which is a rare opportunity in this area. The cost for the workshop is $330, which includes a $75 non-refundable deposit. (Please see the registration form for the refund policy.) The cost for the workshop also includes four meals, breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday, plus refreshments. (There is an optional dinner for Friday evenings, the cost of which is not included in the total.)
