2 Page 2 Our Lady of Peace Church & Shrine January 6, 2019 F P D What Gift Will You Offer Him? Dear Friends, Epiphany means manifestation. God manifests himself in this season, because although being invisible he becomes visible in human flesh, flesh that he took from the Virgin. But it is only manifestation. The Event, with capital letters, was carried out 9 months before and is the Incarnation. The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us! During the Christmas season, gifts are given because we remember the Great Gift, the Great Gift that God has given us: He has opened for us the doors of Heaven in the Person of His Son Jesus Christ. That is the Immense Gift that all men receive: poor and rich, without which, all, poor and rich, are equally miserable. How do we allow this manifestation of Christs love for us a response? And what should that response look like? When the Magi found the Holy Child, they offered Him gold, frankincense and myrrh: which signify Jesus is King (gold), Jesus is Divine (frankincense), and that Jesus would suffer from our sins (myrrh). If we were to sum up in one word, what these three kings did it would be, adoration. The Adoration of the Magi. That is the highest form of love. We still, in one way or another, are offering the gifts of the Magi. In terms of Gold, the parishioners of Our Lady of Peace are time and again so generous with material goods. Something for which I am truly grateful. As for the frankincense, well, the altar boys have this one covered, we have plenty of it! Myrrh, reminding us of Christ s Passion, I would say that this place, being open 24 hours a day, is highly adorned with gift of peoples sufferings and tears. Truly, many souls bring these gifts to the Lord at Our Lady of Peace. I would like, however, to ask you concretely to offer three more gifts. First, pray the daily Rosary, especially the family rosary. In 1947 Mother Teresa was shown a vision in three parts. In the first scene she saw the painful plight of the poor and the yet greater inner poverty that was hidden beneath their material poverty they were reaching out to her. Our Lady was there in the midst of them and Mother Teresa was kneeling at her side; she heard her say: Take care of them they are mine bring them to Jesus carry them to Jesus fear not teach them to say the rosary the family rosary, and all will be well fear not Jesus and I will be with you and your children. Second, every single one of you, I ask you to make one holy hour per week (if you are reading this, make sure EVERYONE gets a bulletin this week). And I know that some of you will just say, let me get out my checkbook and tell me what it will cost, because I can t spare the time, I ll give you a donation instead. Time is the precious gift that I am asking you to sacrifice any hour (day or night). We are open all hours. I am asking you to stick with it for at least 6 months, because you will be tempted to give up. I promise you, if do it every week for 6 months you will never want to give it up because of the peace that comes from spending an hour with Him. A peace that He gives to us, that the world cannot give. It will cost you, but you will find it to be a privileged and truly blessed moment. The third gift, is for you to share your faith with someone. This will prompt you to ask for 1.5 hours of adoration. Our Sunday attendance and our RCIA program should increase, we must all make it our desire that it increase that those who have fallen away come back and that those who do not know Him meet Him. There are people who are searching for something more out there, you know them, you work with them, you hang out with them. I am asking you to do this. Share your faith with those around you. Invite them here for the 0.5 hour of adoration, to come with you and experience the peace of this place. Is this a lot to ask? Yes, but God has given us more. May Our Lady of Peace draw many souls to the heart of her Son, ours included. Mary, Our Lady of Peace, pray for us, Fr. Brian

Bus Pick Up Locations TBD. 3:00pm Meet at Bus, prepare for return to OLOP 3:30pm Bus leaves promptly to avoid overtime bus fees. Do not be late! 5:30pm It takes awhile to leave the streets of San Francisco, but the bus should arrive before 5:30pm latest. How to prepare: You will receive route/bus instructions on the day of the walk. Just make sure you get to OLOP before the bus leaves and that you plan to return on the bus on time. Bring comfortable walking shoes, a bagged lunch, and bottled water. We walk rain or shine, so check weather conditions to plan accordingly. Don t worry - even the one year it rained buckets, it was a great experience.
