2 Page 2 Our Lady of Peace June 14, 2015 Dear Parishioners, FROM OUR PASTOR The month of June is tradi onally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the highest human expression of divine love. Just this past Friday, in fact, we celebrated the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and yesterday we celebrated the Immaculate Heart of Mary a mother s heart who has shared the compassion of God. The devo on to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is rooted in the mystery of the Incarna on; it is precisely through the Heart of Jesus that the Love of God for humanity is sublimely manifested. (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI) Nonetheless, there are so many souls who think that they do be er in their spiritual life if they do not pay much a en on to Christ s humanity but only contemplate his divinity. This was for a me the error of St. Teresa of Jesus which she later deplored and admonished everyone to avoid it as an illusion. Moreover, she advised us: It is evident to me, said St. Teresa of Jesus, that in order to please God, to receive great graces from Him, it is necessary and such is his will, that they should pass through the hands of this sacred humanity (of Jesus) with which He has Himself declared He is well pleased. I have made the experience of this a great number of mes and our Lord Himself has told me so. I have recognized manifestly that this is the door by which we must enter if we wish the Supreme Majesty to discover his high secrets to us One travels in assurance along this way. (Autobiography) This Sacred Heart of Jesus who introduced Himself to St. Margaret Mary as the Heart which has so loved men that it spared nothing to exhaust and consume itself in tes mony of its love was formed, grew up and was educated in a family, which is in the words of St. John Paul II a sanctuary of love. As we have reached the midpoint of our first Parish Mission on a day specially dedicated to families, I d like to offer you a brief reflec on following the teachings of the Vicars of Christ developing the idea of the family as a sanctuary of love. The first one comes from St. John Paul II. He wrote: The essence and role of the family are in the final analysis specified by love. Hence the family has the mission to guard, reveal and communicate love, and this is a living reflec on of and a real sharing in God s love for humanity and the love of Christ the Lord for the church his bride. (Familiaris Consor o, 17) Today as in the past, the mission of the Chris an family is to proclaim God s love to the world through the power of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. From this proclama on itself, life-filled families are born and built up, and the center of their human and spiritual dynamism is a loving hearth and home. If it is true that, in the words of St. Irenaeus of Lyons, Human life is God s glory. (Adv. Haer., IV, 20, 7), it is also true that families give glory to God when, relying on His grace, they live their voca on and their mission to the full. (Pope Francis, Le er to the President of the Pon fical Council for the Family for the Eight World Mee ng of Families) Dear Families, Love is your mission! The Sacred Heart of Jesus, who so much loved the world, will not fail to help families to be faithful to their day-to-day du es, to bear the cares and tribula ons of life, to be open and generous to the needs of others, and to fulfill with joy the plan of God in their regard. (Cf. St. John Paul II, Familiaris Consor o, 86) Therefore, we do not hesitate to declare that devo on to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the most effec ve school of the love of God; the love of God, we say, which must be the founda on on which to build the kingdom of God in the hearts of individuals, families, and na ons. (Pope Pius XII, Haurie s Aquas, 123) Finally, I ardently encourage all families to con nue to par cipate of the ac vi es of the Mission and invite other families to come along with yours too. Please receive the humble offering myself. Use me as you will for the glory of The Father and the salvation of souls. Queen of the most holy Rosary, and tender Mother of all people, I consecrate myself to your Immaculate Heart, and recommend to you my family, my country, and the whole human race. Please accept my consecration, dearest Mother, and use me as you wish, to accomplish your designs upon the world. O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, rule over me, and teach me how to allow the Heart of Jesus to rule and triumph in me and around me, as it has ruled and triumphed in you. Mass intentions will be accepted on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9am to 4:30pm, and Thursday from 9am to 6pm. The office is closed from 12-1pm for lunch Monday to Friday. No mass intentions will be accepted during the weekend. Two mass intentions per day per person is allowed. No exceptions. Christmas Display 2015 Our Lady of Peace will begin working on the Christmas Diorama for 2015 soon and is in need of volunteers. We are looking for volunteers who enjoy sculpting, cutting, pasting, painting, carving and model-making miniature figurines. Anyone without model making experience are welcome to join too, we will teach you! Please bring your creativity and love for Christmas as we recreate Christ's birth 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem. 7 Sacred Heart of Jesus & Immaculate Heart of Mary Page 7 IVE News for OLOP We are happy to report that this fall, Father Jonathan Dumlao, IVE will be coming to Our Lady of Peace Church. He will begin assignment at our parish on September 11, 2015 coming off the heels of his latest assignments in Guyana and Italy. OLOP is also Father Dumlao s home parish. Additionally, we are happy to provide some news about Father Samuel Leonard. Father Samuel was well-loved at Our Lady of Peace Church and he certainly loved the parish as well. For personal reasons, however, Father Samuel will not be able to return to the parish (no worries, he is in good health). Although he was not able to say good bye before he left, you are certainly welcome to send him an at samuelleonard@ive.org. Let us keep him and Father Jonathan Dumlao in our prayers. Please adhere to this gentle reminder to dress appropriately for Mass during the hot summer months. Thank you!

8 Page 8 Our Lady of Peace June 14, 2015 This coming Tuesday, June 16 th, there will be a men s fellowship BBQ and gathering after the 5:15 Mass. Deacon Craig Anderson, who spoke brilliantly at the last Theology on Tap, will be speaking once again. The parish hopes to cultivate and sustain a supportive group for young Catholic men going forward, but can not do it without you! Please come out to support and grow with your fellow brothers in Christ. The life of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, the patron saint of youth, is a strong example of virtue for young men. This prayer acknowledges the trials and tribulations that young men face and asks Saint Aloysius to intercede for them. A Prayer to Be Said by Young Men O most glorious Saint Aloysius, who hast been honored by the Church with the fair title of "angelic youth," because of the life of utmost purity thou didst lead here on earth, I come before thy presence this day with all the devotion of my mind and heart. O perfect exemplar, kind and powerful patron of young men, how great is my need of thee! The world and the devil are trying to ensnare me; I am conscious of that ardor of my passions; I know full well the weakness and inconstancy of my age. W ho shall be able to keep me safe, if not thou, O saint of angelic purity, the glory and honor, the loving protector of youth? To thee, therefore, I have recourse with all my soul, to thee I commit myself with all my heart. I hereby resolve, promise, and desire to be especially devout toward thee, to glorify thee by imitating thy extraordinary virtues and in particular thy angelic purity, to copy thy example, and to promote devotion to thee among my companions. O dear Saint Aloysius, do thou guard and defend me always, in order that, under thy protection and following thy example, I may one day be able to join with thee in seeing and praising my God forever in heaven.
