2 Page 2 Our Lady of Peace September 11, 2016 Dear Parishioners, As I sit down to write my first letter From the Pastor s Desk at Our Lady of Peace, I am drawn to begin by commenting on the gentle and silent welcome all receive, myself included, when they come to Our Lady of Peace. As we approach this place we are met by Mary our heavenly mother as she welcomes us in maternal majesty with her arms extended and open to receive her children. She then, assuredly, invites us to enter into a prayerful visit with her Son Jesus who silently and lovingly awaits us in His Eucharistic form. Through God s grace and the Fiat (let it be done!) of countless faith-filled men and women, priests and religious, old and young, this is the reality that one encounters here at Our Lady of Peace Mary leading us to Jesus. Here, the stranger or the non-believer is captivated and drawn by mystery. Here, the suffering or despairing find a mother who cares for their needs and a Lord who listens to their pleas. Here, the visitor is welcomed and received providing an immediate a sense of home, a sense of belonging. And here, the member of this parish finds a family, where they come to enjoy the presence of their Mother and their Lord, experiencing the unconditional love that is found within a family. It is in this family context where we, as spiritual children, grow and mature, where we receive nourishment and strength, where we obtain forgiveness and peace. I would like to express, once again, my gratitude to all of you for the very warm welcome and the kind words of support. With all sincerity, please know that I count it as a great privilege and blessing to now be a part of this parish family. In just a very short time, I have already witnessed some of the many ways that Our Lady of Peace is alive with faith and devotion. Throughout the upcoming months, I look forward to meeting you and visiting the many different groups, formation classes, and apostolic initiatives here at the parish. It is no secret that the Lord has blessed this parish and it is our privileged task to humbly continue to produce fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. For our community of sisters, the day also honors the Cross of Matará (from which we take our name as Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará ) as well as the vocation we have received to be like the holy women who stood at the foot of the Cross and had served during His apostolic journeys, the first Servants.

6 Page 6 Our Lady of Peace September 11, 2016 The Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary Program at Our Lady of Peace Church and Shrine is based on St. Louis de Montfort s book True Devotion to Mary. This program consists of 33 days of prayer and exercises which help purify souls to prepare one for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. In this program, there are two different periods assigned to these exercises: The first period includes 12 days of exercises employed in casting off the spirit of the world which is contrary to Jesus Christ The second period consists of 3 weeks: the first devoted to the Knowledge of Ourselves, the second devoted to the Knowledge of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the third devoted to that of Jesus Christ. All Consecration Participants will consecrate together on November 19, the Vigil of the Feast of Christ the King at the 5pm mass at Our Lady of Peace Church & Shrine. Prayers can be recited at one s home if one is unable to go to the church. For more information, visit:

Father Sweeney officiated their wedding. They will share their views on having children and raising a new generation for Christ.
