2 Page 2 Our Lady of Peace Respect Life Sunday October 6, st Reading: Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:2-4 Psalm: Ps 95:1-2, 6-9 FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Parishioners, Today, this first Sunday of October, I offer a reminder already well-known to you that we are celebrating the Month of the Most Holy Rosary, the most beautiful of all the prayers we address to the Mother of God. Tomorrow, Monday the 7th, the church celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. In our shrine of Our Lady of Peace, the devotion to the Mother of God always includes the Holy Rosary, her most beloved prayer, and our distinctive sign of honoring her. The word Rosary means "Crown of Roses." Our Lady has revealed to several people that every time they say a Hail Mary they would be giving her a beautiful rose, and that each complete Rosary would make for her a crown of roses. The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the Rosary is the rose of all devotions and it is therefore the most important one. The Holy Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because it carries within itself the awesome story of our salvation. By praying the Rosary we meditate on the joyful, sorrowful, luminous and glorious mysteries in the lives of Jesus and Mary. Since the institution of the Rosary in the 14th century, in nearly all of our Blessed Mother s apparitions she has invited us to say the Rosary as a powerful weapon against evil and as a great means to bring us true peace. Blessed Pope John Paul II, in his Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae, said, with your prayer made together with your heavenly Mother, you can obtain the great gift of bringing about a change of hearts and conversion. When the Blessed Mother gave the Rosary to St. Dominic as a means of converting sinners, She also made fifteen promises: 1)- Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive powerful graces; 2)- I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary; 3)- The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies; 4)- It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means; 5)- The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish; 6)- Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life; 7)- Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church; 8)- Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise; 9)- I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary; 10)- The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven; 11)- You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary; 12)- All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities; 13)- I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death; 14)- All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ; 15)- Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination. The Rosary is a simple prayer, humble, very much like Mary. As St. Luis Grignon de Montfort said, the Rosary is a priceless treasure which is inspired by God. It's a prayer we can say along with Her, the Mother of God. Every time we pray the Hail Mary we invite Her to pray for us and She always grants our requests. She joins Her prayer to ours. Therefore it becomes ever more useful, because what Mary asks from Her Son, Jesus, She always receives He can never say no to His Mother. The Church has always attributed particular efficacy to this prayer, entrusting to the Rosary, to its choral recitation and to its constant practice, the most difficult problems. At times when Christianity itself seemed under threat, its deliverance was attributed to the power of this prayer, and Our Lady of the Rosary was acclaimed as the one whose intercession brought salvation. Today and always, let us say Blessed Rosary of Mary, sweet chain linking us to God! Fr. Mass Counts Each year in October the Diocese requires each parish to record attendance at all Vigil/ Sunday Masses. Thank you ushers for taking care of this! Marian Day Oct. 13 On the anniversary of Our Blessed Mother s apparition at Fatima, Pope Francis plans to consecrate the world to her Immaculate Heart. OLOP started a Novena on Oct. 4 in preparation. The parish applied for and received a grant from Silicon Valley Power for a solar power system of 27kw that will provide some of the electrical needs of our church campus. The grant covers the cost, installation, and maintenance of the system, and is valued at $100,000. After installation, the system will be owned by the parish. The only visible portion of the system will be solar panels mounted on the roof of the Family Learning Center. Construction will begin the week of October 6. For everyone s safety, please stay away from the construction area taped off around the Family Learning Center. Guest speaker Bobby Schindler, the brother of Terri Schiavo, will speak from the heart on this topic and will bring practical insight on how to protect and defend yourself and your loved ones. Also contributing to the presentation that evening will be Attorney Kevin Bedolla, a long-time friend of Life Legal. Mr. Bedolla has significant knowledge on the issue of forced death and will contribute to the presentation along with Dana Cody, covering such topics as medical directives and insights as to how the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) will impact your right to receive medical treatment.
