2 Historic St. Mary s Church, Lancaster, PA October 2, 2011 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, We are all in God s vineyard. Whether we want to admit it or not, all that surrounds us and all that we have and are is a gi from God. No doubt, it may feel at mes as if God is on a journey far away, but that doesn t change the fact that we are accountable for what we do with the me, gi s and resources God has given to us. No doubt, some may want to beli le, silence or even rid themselves of the messenger of this truth, but believe me, it is spoken not in judgment but with love. Knowing full well that some will take offense and others will walk, it s ll needs to be said for too much is at stake. If we do not embrace and act on this truth, it is Jesus who says that, The kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit. Lord, draw us into your mission as we offer all that we are to you. Courageous, from the creators of the movie Fireproof, was released this weekend at our local theaters. Present at a screening in August, I can assure you that it s a great family movie, and a movie that I believe every man should see. Take the me to see it. As disciples, nothing is more precious than the family entrusted to our care. What resolu on will you make? THE PASTOR S RESOLUTION: I do solemnly resolve before God to take full responsibility for myself, the parish and the family of faith entrusted to my care. I WILL love them, protect them, serve them, and teach them the Word of God and the teachings of Christ as the spiritual leader of the parish. I WILL be faithful to the Catholic Church, to love and honor her, and be willing to lay down my life for her as Jesus Christ did for me. I WILL bless my parishioners and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, all of their minds, and all of their strength. I WILL train them to honor authority and live responsibly. I WILL confront evil, pursue jus ce, and love mercy. I WILL pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion. I WILL work diligently to provide for the needs of my family of faith. I WILL forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those I have wronged as well as provide ample opportuni es for the Sacrament of Reconcilia on. I WILL learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God. I WILL seek to honor God, be faithful to His Church, obey His Word, and do His will. I WILL courageously work with the strength God provides to fulfill this resolu on for the rest of my life and for His glory. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
