The following is from Kelly Packwood s testimonial regarding her service with the Green Thumb Club: Lisa Bozzetti and I first became interested in the Green Thumb Club after St. Ann s first stewardship campaign. As we listened to everyone s personal stories of being a part of a ministry or organization, and how much pleasure they were getting out of serving others, we felt maybe we could also be a part of something here at St. Ann. Lisa and I have now been a part of this club for the last six years or so. We have focused on the Ridge Road aspect of our parish property, and slowly but surely, it is coming together nicely. Some of our parishioners may not know, but we assist in all of the exterior landscaping of the parish property, with St. Ann s paying for grass cutting only. That being said, we have 100 more years to keep up this property, so we need more volunteers! We have been very blessed in our journey here at St. Ann, have met some great people, and have had the opportunity to see the fruits of our labor, thanks to the Green Thumb Club, some of the teenagers, the Cub/Boy Scouts and their parents. They have been a blessing to us in fulfilling our vision of re-designing Ridge Road, and we cannot thank them enough for all of their help. It always feels good when we hear others talk about how nice the landscape looks, and we are fortunate that our club makes a visual difference. With everyone s help and generosity, St. Ann will not just be a Future Full of Hope, but also a place where our parishioners will want to spend time enjoying our lovely grounds. Lector Training Monday, October 6, 7:00 p.m. in Church Any parishioner high school aged or older is invited to become a member of the Lector Ministry. The training is mandatory. 6 September 27-28, 2014 Dear St. Ann Parish Family, God, I ve Got To Talk To You Our second graders recently read the book God, I ve Got to Talk to You by Anne Jennings. Afterwards, they wrote and illustrated a page they would add to the book. The topics they chose to talk to God about were very interesting. One student chose to talk to God about sick people, another about rainbows. Animals was the topic of choice for one young man, and a young lady chose to talk about what I do. One student even thought he could have a nice conversation with God about the game Minecraft. As I make my way through all of our classrooms, I can tell you God is at work in our school through our teachers and through our students. We are blessed. Toby the Tire Rolled Into our School The Illinois Secretary of State s Office sponsored two informative bus safety assemblies last week. As we take buses for various field trips, our students learned bus safety measures firsthand. Toby the Tire, a special robotic guest of honor, provided safety tips to the children and played a brief video for our K-6th Graders. He also treated our students to a little dance, showing off his smooth moves. The Secretary of State s Office will present a Traffic Safety program for grades 6-8 this Friday afternoon and will return yet again for a parent informational program on October 6 at 6:00 p.m. before our HSA meeting. Special Persons Day Friday, October 10 Attention all special people of my special people! You are cordially invited to attend our Special Persons Day on Friday, October 10 from 9-11:30 a.m. We ll have special classroom activities before we celebrate Mass together at 10:00 a.m. This is a half-day with dismissal from Church at 11:30 a.m. Be sure to stop at our Book Fair, which will be on display in the library before Mass. 7 St. Ann s & 2014 What could be better than to free up some closet space and earn a little cash for St. Ann s in the process? We are participating in a ShoeBox Recycling fundraiser that pays us 50 cents per pound of shoes. We can accept all gently worn, paired men s, women s and children s shoes that are still reusable and re-wearable (no holes, tears, or mildew). Eligible shoes include athletic (gym shoes/cleats), dress, and casual shoes, work boots, sandals, heels & flats. We cannot accept ski boots, winter boots, skates, roller blades, flip flops, Crocs, bedroom slippers or single shoes. Look for the recycling boxes in the Narthex and School and Parish Offices. If you d like to track where your shoes end up and meet the recipient virtually, visit the website at to print a SoleMate Note and include it with your shoes.
