Our year of celebration will culminate on Saturday, October 19 with a very special Mass at St. Ann s, followed by dinner at the Serbian Hall. 4 Together Let Us Cause God Joy Today is the Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time, and the Responsorial Psalm is, God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor. (Psalm 68:4-5,6-7,10-11) The Gospel according to Luke is about choosing places of honor at the table; instead take a seat at the end and the host will invite you forward. Tomorrow is Labor Day, and we can all just sit back and enjoy the day. Hopefully, it is cooler out and cookouts will abound. Next weekend, we start St. Ann s Religious Education classes. If you haven t registered yet, please come to the Parish Office and do so. On Monday, the office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Sunday classes are from 8:45 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. and followed by 10:30 a.m. Mass. Monday classes are from 4:00-5:30 p.m. We hope to see all our students and their families at Mass. This is our big 100 th Anniversary Year, and God would love to see the church packed, Fr. Bill and me too. What if you took some of life s themes and tried to add meaning to them? Saying Thanks, Back to Basics, Recovering from Sadness, Silver Linings, Giving, Attitude, I Have It All, Thank My Lucky Stars, a Great Friend, New Goals and Having Faith. Now sit down and think what your response would be to each of these themes and add a few that affect your life or the lives of those you love. If you come up with some insightful ideas, please pass them on to me. I love writing this column every week, and I thank all of you for your wonderful comments and ideas that you have forwarded to me over the years. Keep them coming. Olson and based on the series created by Father Robert Barron. The program, which will begin September 23, will be held on Mondays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel and Narthex of the Church. The Catholicism program has been created to enhance and support the Church s mission to evangelize and teach the content of Faith. At each meeting, you will view a video presentation of the Church s essential teaching while traveling with Fr. Barron around the globe to see the Faith in the depths of its beliefs and practices. A group discussion will follow. If you are interested in joining us on this remarkable journey around the world and into the Faith, please come to the Monday meetings. No registration or fees are required; join us any time. 5 Women s Club News St. Ann s Women s Club will hold its first meeting of the new season on September 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Narthex. We are guided by faith, prayer, knowledge and concern. We help build community at St. Ann s through friendship, spiritual reflection, fundraisers and support to those in need. Dues are $10 for the year. After our summer off, we will meet September-November and March- May. All are welcome, and refreshments will be served. Please bring three quarters for our entertainment. 6 August 31-Sepetmber 1, 2013 Dear St. Ann Family, I had the privilege of welcoming our Pre -K Class to St. Ann School. This will be the St. Ann Class of 2023 and Indeed, they are our Future Full of Hope. I m happy to report on their first day, there were no tears from the students, parents, teachers, or principal! With Pre-School in session, the building felt complete to me. A special thank you goes to Kathy Sandrick, Jackie Alderfer, Rose Rivas, and Debby Jendras for all of their hard work, dedication, and love. Another word of thanks goes to Jennifer Gray, Valerie DeMay, and Paul Scheppe for their panel presentation at Pre-K Orientation. Pre-School is a happy place! Happy Labor Day! On this Labor Day Weekend, I wish to thank all those who labor for St. Ann School. I appreciate each person who works for both the school and parish. I also truly appreciate our hardworking parents who make the sacrifice to send their child(ren) to a Catholic School. God bless you for taking extra shifts and working long hours so your child can attend St. Ann s. We pray for all of those looking for work. Frankfest! My fellow parishioners, please mark your calendar for Friday, September 13. St. Ann School s Student Council, along with our Home and School Association (HSA), will co-sponsor our annual Frankest. This is a parish event, as we are ONE family. It s also a birthday party celebrating 100 years of St. Ann. When the smells of Big Guy Barbeque-Chicago waft past your nose, you ll be glad you came! This year we will be expanding the menu choices to include not only tasty hotdogs, but chicken kabobs, pork chop sandwiches, salads and more. There will be raffles, games, a Sweet Shoppe, a photo booth, music, and Fr. Bill s favorite root beer. We will also be collecting non-perishable items for the Lansing Food Pantry. Come and join the fun; I d love to meet you. There s always room for one more If you d still like to register your child for St. Ann School, it s not too late. In fact, it s never too late. In order to be a volunteer, coach, Religious Ed. instructor, Scout leader, field trip chaperone, lunch room helper or serve in any other capacity with children present, you need to be Virtus trained and complete a background check with the Archdiocese. You only need to do this once, and it is recommended that all new school parents take care of the requirements as soon as possible. We are very happy to announce an upcoming session RIGHT HERE AT ST. New servers must attend one training and shadow three times in order to be added to the schedule. Diaper Drive August 17 thru September 16 The Lansing Knights of Columbus Council is sponsoring a Diaper Drive in support of the Fr. Michael J. McGivney Center of Hope and Healing. Needed are Sizes One and Two disposable diapers and baby wipes of any brand and count. All donations can be dropped off in the marked boxes located in the Narthex, or directly at the Lansing KC Hall at Lorenz Avenue.
