4 Today is the 8 th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Responsorial Psalm is, Rest in God alone, my soul. (Psalm 62:2-3,6-7,8-9) The Gospel according to St. Matthew is Jesus saying to his disciple: No one can serve two masters. (Matthew 6:24-34) He is calling for us to get our priorities in order. Ask yourself, can you trust God above everything? This Wednesday, March 5, is Ash Wednesday, and the Responsorial Psalm is, Be merciful, O, Lord, for we have sinned. (Psalm 51:3-4,5-6a, 12-13,14 and 17) The Gospel according to Matthew is telling us to do good deeds without recognition. Keep them between God and yourself. In Loving Memory of Our Faithful Departed Finding My Way Our grief support group, Finding My Way, has begun its spring sessions alternating Thursdays from 2-4 p.m. The group is facilitated by Debbie Bona, Ministry Coordinator at St. Ann s, and a licensed and nationally certified counselor. Subsequent meetings will be March 6 and 20, April 3 and 17, May 1, 15 and 29. Finding My Way is free and open to everyone, and there is no registration required. Come any time. FMI, please call Debbie Bona at Finding My Way will begin a children s support grief group for 4 th through 6 th graders starting Wednesday March 5 and meeting weekly from 4:00-5:30 p.m. for six weeks. Parents must register their children at the first meeting. There are no fees. FMI, please call Debbie at ext. 43.

6 March 1-2, 2014 Dear St. Ann Family, Testing Testing We begin March with a week of standardized testing. Students in grades 2-7 will take the Terra Nova and InView Tests. We join all elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago who will test students this week. We know our students will try their very best! Ash Wednesday On Wednesday, we will gather as a school for Mass at 9:00 a.m. for Ash Wednesday and begin our Lenten journey toward our Risen Lord. During Lent, our St. Ann School family will strengthen our faith through service and love. Fair Thee Well! Congratulations to Nina Rose Duda, Kayla Schassburger, and Mya Parker! These three young scientists competed in the Regional Science Fair held at Memorial Junior High School on February 22. They ended up with a clean sweep! All three faired with an Outstanding award and received Best in Fair for their projects. Special thanks to Mrs. Echterling, our junior high science teacher, for preparing our students to succeed, as well as all the behind the scenes work in preparation for the science fairs. BEAR Down on Bullies Staley da Bear, the Chicago Bears Official Mascot, visited St. Ann s last week for an all-school assembly. Staley showed off his smooth moves, provided helpful information on the prevention of bullying, and had the Pre-K through 8 th grade audience dancing. He even gave each of our students a coupon for a free kid s meal at Subway. We thank the Chicago Bears Organization and Subway for sponsoring Staley s visit. Supper Club St. Ann Supper Club Thank you for supporting our February Supper Club at Chipotle. I told you they had good guac, and you listened! We made $464.50, despite a snowstorm. Please meet me on Tuesday, March 4 (Fat Tuesday) at Schoop s for lunch/dinner. Additional vouchers are available online at under fundraising. Spotlight on a Faculty/Staff Member: And now may I introduce Ms. Adrienne Latronica! TEACHER: Ms. Latronica GRADE: Second Grade COLLEGE/DEGREE: Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education Degree from St. Xavier University; endorsements in science and language arts. YEARS IN EDUCATION: This is Ms. Latronica s first year of teaching (and she s loving every minute!) LITTLE KNOWN FACT ABOUT MS. LATRONICA: I like to teach my cat tricks (such as meowing on command, paw, and sit ). WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT SAS? I love how SAS is a school that makes the students and teachers feel a sense of belonging, warmth, and love every single day. 7 Upcoming Events It s Girl Scout Cookie Time! Our St. Ann Brownie and Girl Scout Troop #60838 will be selling cookies in the Narthex before and after all Masses on March 8 & 9. Girls Scout Cookies are $4 per box. You can only buy them once a year, so don t be afraid to stock up on your favorites! ALUMINUM CAN COLLECTION GraFFiti Youth Group members will collect aluminum cans in the church parking lot after Sunday Masses on March 2 and April 27. We collected 663 pairs of adult and children s socks and $260 in monetary donations for the PADS program, which provides emergency shelter, permanent housing and supportive services through interfaith programs to individuals and families homeless, formerly homeless or at -risk of homelessness. PADS participants will be warmed by your heartfelt donations!
