4 Together Let Us Cause God Joy Today is Corpus Christi Sunday, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Look for the winners in each bulletin, on our facebook page, or on the parish website: Ministry Spotlight GRAFFITI YOUTH GROUP Coordinated by Mary Lu Kot, the GraFFiti Youth Group ministry offers spiritual, social and service events focused on inviting the youth of the Parish to live a more active faith-life. High school and college-aged students are invited to meet with this group on alternating Thursdays in the School at 7:00 p.m. Members also help with Parish activities like the Ministry Fair and the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, and they presented the Shadow Stations of the Cross for Good Friday. Recently, the teens participated in World Vision s 30-Hour Famine Lock-in at the Parish Hall to learn about hunger and raise funds for the hungry. Summer activities generally include trips to Great America, Deep River Water Park, and New Buffalo Beach. Recent 8th grade graduates are invited to join the group. 6 June 1-2, 2013 Dear Friends, As the last days of school unfold, we have a lot of good news to share: Father Bill, in his great support for our school, is allowing Bonnie Hall to hire a teacher PER grade...that means no double-grades, so pass the word along! Encourage friends and neighbors to consider St. Ann School. It does hold "A Future Full of Hope." The following students will attend Honors Biology at Marian Catholic High School during their 8th grade year: Molly Roe and James Szewczyk. Congratulations to them and to their parents and teachers. Next week, I will have the names of those who will take Algebra I at MCHS as 8th graders. A wonderful story: I'm not sure if this story has been told yet, but Father Bill and I received a letter from the Lansing Food Pantry informing us that one of our 8th grade students donated her Confirmation gift money to the Pantry in order to help those less fortunate. I believe the Pantry will put her gift toward the purchase of a new van. How GREAT that this young person HEARD THE WORD OF GOD... AND LIVED IT! Keep saving what I call "Golden Garbage." We recently received a check for $ from AbiBow Recycling, and in the fall, we will receive a huge check from General Mills BoxTops! Thanks to Rosemary Duda, Donna Spagnola, and all of you, our latest challenge was a huge success. Jack Kienzle won the drawing for four White Sox/Cubs tickets plus parking pass. I was happy for the Kienzle family UNTIL Jack told me they would be cheering for the Cubs!!!!! Keep saving those BoxTops all summer. We bid a fond farewell last Friday night to a great 8th Grade Class. We wish them God's blessings as they prepare for high school. St. Ann will always be their home, and we hope to see them continue as active members of our Parish. We appreciate the efforts of Mrs. Bonnie Hall, Mrs. Judy Echterling, Mrs. Chris McHale, Mrs. Deb Johnson, Mrs. Sharon Sypole, and all who have taught these students in the past. Today at the 10:30 Mass, the Parish will honor Mrs. Katherine Jones for 32 years of dedicated teaching here at St. Ann. Mrs. Donna Kieltyka will be honored for 24 years of service to our school community. Mrs. Rosalyn Flanagan will be recognized for 15 years of dedicated teaching at St. Ann. Although I have had the great privilege of serving here for only three years, I am complet- After the school Mass in their honor, retiring staff Rosalyn Flanagan, Donna Kieltyka, Donna Lamoureux, and Kathy Jones show off their commemorative St. Ann pillows, made by Vickie Szewczyk out of our uniform plaid. We will miss these four wonderful ladies and wish them much health and happiness in their retirement! Please extend your congratulations to them after our 10:30 Mass this weekend. ing 44 years in Catholic Education...I saved the BEST for last! Our School Picnic for K-7 will be held at Lan-Oak Park on Tuesday, June 4. The Roe and Gill families are providing hot dogs for all! The Home and School Association will sponsor games, and it should be a great event! Pre-School has a smaller picnic on June 3, weather permitting. Our closing Pre-School Celebration will take place on Wednesday, June 5. We thank Mrs. Kathy Sandrick, Mrs. Jackie Alderfer, and Mrs. Rose Rivas for the loving care they have given our 3- and 4-year-olds. Kindergarten "Graduation" will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6. Parents and Grandparents are welcome to attend. The children will be dismissed after the program. We congratulate Mrs. Sarah Zackavec on a successful first year in Kindergarten. The last day of school for Grades 1-7 will be this Friday, June 7. We will have Mass at 9:00 a.m., and we will present certificates and awards after Mass. The children will be dismissed right from Church at approximately 10:15 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend this closing Mass of the school year. THERE WILL BE NO EX- TENDED DAY SERVCES ON FRIDAY. The kids who attend our VBS range from 4-year-old Preschoolers to 5th Graders.
