2 PASTOR S DESK I want to begin my article by expressing my deep appreciation to all the members and friends of our church for celebrating the 40 th Anniversary of my ordination! Your many expressions of appreciation for my ministry with you deeply humbles me and I feel very blessed to serve as your pastor. I also want to say Thank You for the generous financial gift you provided. This will enable Judy and me to do something special in the future. I would not be able to serve here without the incredible support I receive from my wife, Judy, who serves as Voluntary Administrative Assistant. Her gifts of organization help me immensely and enables the office to run extremely efficiently. We, as a church, would not be where we are today without her involvement! Longwood Hills Congregational Church is a special community of faith and we have so much to offer the people in our community who hunger for God, love, relationship and purpose! I look forward to working with you to growing in this mission! This month we will be finishing our The Treasures of the Transformed Life program. At the conclusion, which will be on Sunday, November 18, you will have an opportunity to make a commitment of your time, talent and finances in support of the mission we have together of sharing God s life transforming love with others. I have served this wonderful church as pastor for almost five years and I am pleased to say that each year we have grown in our commitment and support of this important mission! This indicates to me that we are on the right path of connecting people with God by communicating to them how deeply loved, treasured and valued they are by God as God s children. We also help them discover what gifts for life and mission God has given them and we provide ways for them to put those gifts in service to others. I encourage you to take time to prayerfully consider the various ways you can help our church family continue to grow in sharing our message of love with your gifts of time, talents and finances. I hope you know how much I value everyone s commitment to this mission! May God bless the commitments we make to spreading the Good News of Jesus! Peace, Pastor Jim

3 PASTOR S DESK (continued) Memorial Sunday Is November 25 The last Sunday of the church year is a time when we remember and give thanks for those in our lives who have died in the past year. This year it falls on Sunday, November 25. As a church we remember those who died and from whom we held funeral services. In the worship service we read their names, we ring a bell, and we light a candle. Those in attendance will be invited to come forward and say the name of loved one or friend who died and we will ring the bell and light the candle in their memory. This will be done as part of our regular morning worship service.

6 Pantry News! "Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine." -Proverbs 3:9 10 Our Food Pantry is open for service every Wednesday 2-4pm. Our Mission - To discover ways to express God s love through service to those in the community. Communion Sunday Food Donations! Don't forget to bring in items for our Food Pantry on Communion Sundays which will be blessed during our worship service. In preparation for Thanksgiving, the Food Pantry has requested 1 pound canned hams, boxed mashed potatoes, boxed dressing, canned gravy, canned corn/green beans for our Communion Sunday, and of course your donations are welcomed throughout the holiday season. Pancake Breakfast with Santa/Pets with Santa Calling all Santa Helpers!!! Mark your calendars, our Annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa will be held on Saturday, December 8th, from 8-11:00a. We will also have the Pet Photos with Santa from 11:30am-12:30pm. This is always a well attended event, and we could use your help! There are many tasks, such as cooks, kitchen preparation, servers, kids crafts, decorations, selling tickets, checking in attendees, parking attendants, flyer distribution, and set up/clean up of Fellowship Hall. Simply sharing the event with your family, neighbors, co-workers and on FACEBOOK would be helpful. Do you like to do crafts??? Help will be needed at the Kids Crafts tables as well as the Food Pantry/Women's Club Craft tables. Also, if you are able to donate some dollar store gifts that Santa can give out to the children that would be great too. A sign up sheet will be placed in the lobby the first Sunday in November. Please contact Debbie Perry at if you are able to help.
