4 From the Pastor s Pen Dear Brothers and Sisters, my family of Faith. This is a note to thank all of you for last week s presence and hospitality to all our visitors. The Bishop and all the visitors who attended the Installation went away amazed at your hospitality. It s not easy to express my sincere heart-felt thanks to you all and to the different leaders of the different ministries who organized the event. I want to thank the Liturgy Committee; the Music Director and the Choir as a whole, who cut short their summer holiday and prepared the wonderful liturgy! Thank you for sharing your time and talent! A big thank you goes to the sacristans and lectors and all the Eucharistic ministers. Mrs. Debbie Bona not only organized the ministries and the ceremony itself with Brian, but she was also downstairs in the School Hall with Janice Summerrise, decorating and arranging the serving of the wonderful lunch we had! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to you both, Janice and Debbie, for making this happen! Thank you to Mrs. Rose Rivas and several others who lent their hands to Janice and Debbie to make the School Hall look so beautiful and to serve the delicious meal we all enjoyed! All who worked behind the scenes to make the day as beautiful as it was, ONLY GOD can see your open heart as you did lend your hand and ideas. The Good Lord who sees what is in secret will reward you accordingly. I want to thank whole heartedly many of you who did give me wonderful gifts and to those who are still sending those beautiful and inspiring cards. May the Good Lord continue to bless the work of your hands. Thank you for the nice words and words of support and encouragement. Finally, I thank God for you all and encourage you too to thank God for the wonderful people that He brings into our lives. Here is a pastoral prayer for all of us to say every now and then and a reminder to not take the good things we get for granted! Pastoral Prayer: Most Loving and Generous God, who continues to pour Your blessings upon us even though we rarely can deserve them, help us to live more fully as persons with thankful hearts. Do not let us be blind to the kindnesses of others, or Your own kindnesses in our lives. Make us eager to give as much or more kindness in return. Do not let us become so familiar with friends and family and loved ones that we take their thoughtfulness for granted. Help us to notice and give thanks each day for the many people who bless our lives. Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen Rev. When we celebrate a holiday, we have a meal; when we celebrate a significant event, we have a feast. In today s first reading, Lady Wisdom is setting a feast, a sign of celebrating the covenant that Israel has with God. Israel s central remembrance of its saving Exodus covenant is the Passover meal. So it is natural and not coincidental that the Christian celebration of the new covenant sealed by the blood of Christ on the cross happens at a meal, our Eucharist, offered first by Jesus in the context of Passover remembrance. It is easy for us, sometimes, to forget the very long and rich religious and human origins of our eucharistic feasting on the bread and cup that are the Body and Blood of Jesus. Today, and for the next few Sundays that we hear the Bread of Life discourse from John, let us bring to mind the loving covenant that God makes with us, and be filled with great joy at this marvelous feast that we have come to attend! In order to be a volunteer, coach, Religious Ed. instructor, Scout leader, field trip chaperone, lunch room helper or serve in any other capacity with children present, you need to be Virtus trained and complete a background check with the Archdiocese. 6 Dear Friends, BACK TO SCHOOL! On Tuesday, August 21, doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for the first day of school for Kindergarten-8th Graders! Parents are welcome to walk their children in to their classrooms and then join staff in the side yard between Fr. Mark's house and the school for some coffee/juice, a breakfast snack, and a chance to meet and chat with other parents! All students should wear their full dress uniforms on the first day. After that, if students prefer they may wear gym uniforms on hot days until September 15. We will dismiss at 11:30 on the first day. Our regular school day this year begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 2:50 p.m. We Are Still Accepting School Registrations! We are available in the office daily from 9:00 a.m. - Noon, with additional hours and evenings by appointment for your convenience. Please call the office ASAP FMI or to make arrangements: Pre-K orientation will take place on Friday, August 24 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. The first full day of school for Pre-K will be Monday, August 27. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, writing, and listening to music. I also spend a lot of time with my family, playing games, watching movies, and talking about life." Becoming an Altar Server is not only an honor but an important part in the offering of the Mass. You will be assisting the priest in the celebration of the Eucharist, which is the cornerstone of your faith. If you are interested in becoming an Altar Server, please discuss it first with your parent(s) or guardian(s), as you will be making a serious commitment. It is no different than being on the basketball team, or any other hobby or activity that you participate in. You will be able to indicate your preferred Mass time and any dates that you are unavailable. If you decide you would like to become an Altar Server, please fill out the attached form and drop it off at the Parish Office or in the Collection Basket at Church.
