4 Together Let Us Cause God Joy Today is the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Responsorial Psalm is, The Lord is my light and my salvation; the Lord is my light and my salvation. (Psalm 27:1, 4, 13-14) The Gospel according to Matthew is about John being arrested and Jesus calling the first apostles. (Matthew 4:12-23 or 4:12-17) We are celebrating Catholic Schools this week, and we are truly blessed to have an outstanding School Principal, Staff, Teachers, Students and Parents. It takes a Village to raise a child, and I have always believed that St. Ann s is the Heart of Lansing. Congrats to one and all. INNER PEACE If you can start the day without caffeine... If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains... If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles... If you eat the same food every day and are grateful for it... If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time... If you can take criticism and blame without resentment... If you can conquer tension without medical help... If you can just relax... If you can just sleep and not worry about anything Then you are probably the family dog. There has to be something true about the statement, It s a dog s life. So doggone it, just have some fun. Some dogs are almost human, and I don t mean Dog with a Blog. I mean the ones that just snuggle up with you when you re not feeling up to par. Or the ones you can talk to for hours on end, and they never interrupt you or tell you what you did or didn t do. They just love you the way you are. I think there are some pet cats out there that are just about the same. Enjoy! Serving Him Together, Barb A. Miss Me But Let Me Go In Loving Memory of Our Faithful Departed 4 Today s Readings First Reading God has restored the land, and brought great joy to the people. (Isaiah 8:23 9:3). Psalm The Lord is my light and my salvation (Psalm 27). Second Reading Paul exhorts the believers at Corinth: As there is one Christ, so too must there be no divisions among you. (1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 17). Gospel After calling his first disciples, Jesus goes throughout Galilee (Matthew 4:12-23 [12-17]). We will be collecting socks in the Narthex after Masses, as well as accepting monetary donations. South Suburban PADS provides emergency shelter, permanent housing and supportive services through interfaith programs to individuals and families, homeless, formerly homeless or at-risk of homelessness. Our participation is a part of St. Ann s Parish Transformation Mission Team s Action Plan. PADS is aware that no organization can be successful without partners who sacrifice time, talent and gifts. As such, they are grateful for St. Ann s support, prayers and well-wishes in their efforts to end homelessness. This Valentine s Day, let s show our compassion for others by donating socks and money to this worthy cause! Many of our parishioners may have already received a mailing from Cardinal George. He asks that you make a pledge to the 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal. Please respond generously. The Appeal supports both parish and Archdiocesan ministries. Appeal funds support ministries parishwide and also support the recruitment, education and formation of lay ministers and deacons, the continuing education and ongoing spiritual formation of priests, Catholic Relief Services for aid to the poor in foreign lands, and the Office of Respect Life, which supports the dignity of life from conception to natural death. This year, the theme of the Appeal is: You are the temple of God. We are living temples of God and carry His true presence into the world. He calls us to share our gifts with others. As we contemplate His gifts to us, we should also reflect on our gratitude for these gifts. Your financial support for the work our parish, of our Archdiocese and of the throughout the world is, in fact, one way to express this gratitude. As you review the mailing from Cardinal George, please note the ministries and services funded by the Appeal, including the ones that directly support the work of our parish. Then please give generously. Note that when our parish reaches its goal of $38,546 in paid pledges, 100% of the additional funds received will be returned to us for use in our parish. Have you signed up for Fun Funds at GFS yet? There s no membership fee, and up to 10% of your purchases will come right back to St. Ann! Stop in at GFS for an application, or print one online at and bring it into our local GFS store at rd Street, Lansing. 5

Friday, January 31: Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day Last, but certainly not least, we truly appreciate our faculty and staff. Everyone goes above and beyond the call of duty. I will return to my former post as assistant principal for the day to assist the New Administration. I know the school will be in good hands with Mia Dabrowski, Kiernan McSwiggan, Connor Gill, Nicholas Vitiritti, Haley Murphy, and Brian Scheppe in charge. We ll also have an Oh Baby! photo contest. I ve collected photos of the faculty and staff from when they were youngins and have featured their baby/childhood pictures on a board displayed in school. Students have been invited to participate in guessing who is in each photo. Winners who guess correctly who is in each picture will receive a NUT card (No Uniform Today card). Friday is an 11:30 a.m. dismissal day. Whew! What a great week! I hope you can join us in celebrating Catholic Schools Week! May God bless our Parish Family, Mrs. Bonnie Hall, Principal 6
