2 Second Sunday of Advent Is 40:1-5, 9-11; Ps 85:9-10, 11-12, 13-14; 2 Pt 3:8-14; Mk 1:1-8 And this is what [John] proclaimed: One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. Mark 1:7 John the Baptist has a special place in the Bible. He prepared his contemporaries to recognize Jesus just at the time that Jesus began his public ministry. John did this by what he said and by pointing out Jesus as the one who would baptize them with the Holy Spirit. Truly, John s life was a gift for all those who heard and accepted what he said. In every age, gifted people have prepared the way for their contemporaries to know and accept Christ. Authors of books on spirituality have done that for me, along with my parents, spiritual mentors and close friends. By what they said and the way they lived they helped me to know Christ better and to deepen my relationship with Him. Who has done this for you? How have you done this for others? Lord, may I be grateful for all I ve received and for all I ve been able to give. Fr. Kenneth Grabner, C.S.C.. Living Faith, Terence Hegarty, Editor Angels of Mercy Project This year we are focusing on the children in Chile. Our tree holds angels listing shoes, school supplies and monetary gifts as well. Instructions regarding these gifts are in the back of church. Please call Margaret Mary Hite at the office if you have any questions. 4 Second Sunday of Advent If you asked one of the 21 teens from St. Joseph Parish or Bethlehem High School that attended the National Catholic Youth Conference from November How was your NCYC experience? Well, here s the answer. This was the best time of my life attending NCYC! Thank for giving me the opportunity to attend such an awesome event! Can t wait to attend again in 2019!! NCYC really was the most amazing thing ever. Going into this I never imagined that sitting in a stadium with 25,000 people could actually be so peaceful; it was truly shocking--being able to party, sing, dance, and then transition into a quiet state to pray. It was so wonderful to meet all kinds of new people, and to realize that although we re all from different places we all have our faith in common. It truly was a life changing experience, and I can t wait until 2019 to be able to go back and bring my little sister with me! Thank you so much for the amazing experience! There s nothing more amazing than watching 25,000 youth go from singing their hearts out in worship to sitting silently during prayer. It s so silent you can hear someone on the other end of Lucas Oil Stadium cough. All you can hear over 25,000 people is the air conditioner. There s something heartwarming and faith-building in that noise. It s been so amazing to Speak life with thousands of other catholic youth from across the country. Over the past three, 17 hour days, I ve learned how to say yes to God s calling. I ve learned so much more about my faith and how connected the Catholic Church is to the world. I learned about How Great is Our God. I learned that when you say NC people say YC. I met so many amazing people this week and I couldn t be more thankful. Amen? Amen. NCYC has inspired me to dive deeper into my faith and has made me realize how great of an impact I cam make in my community and church. NCYC has helped me to learn so much about my faith not only once but twice! Jesus is and always will be by my side to help me through everything! It was the best experience of my life.
5 YOUTH MINISTRY ACTIVITIES DECEMBER December 13 Christmas Caroling & Party R.O.C. youth 5:30-8:30pm. Will visit some homebound parishioners and give some holiday cheer. Need guitar players and musicians to assist us. ANNUAL PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO HAITI The annual parish pilgrimage to our Sister Parish in Haiti will be from January 31 - February7, We leave on a Wednesday morning and return the following Wednesday evening. In between we will experience the opening of our eyes and hearts to the lives of our Haitian brothers and sisters. As the Haitian proverb says, What the eye cannot see, the heart cannot understand. Please consider becoming one of our Parish Pilgrims to Haiti this year. The pilgrimage will be led by Joe Zarantonello. Call Joe Zarantonello for details at (502) Please Keep Saving Your Plastic Caps Thanks to all of you who have been saving plastic caps and dropping them off in the containers in the back of church and in Flaget Hall. We have close to 500 pounds toward the needed 1100 pounds to get a recycled picnic table for the new Washington County Extension Office in Springfield!! That means we are almost half way there! Besides helping to get the picnic table we have saved another 500 pounds of plastic from the landfill. Future generations will be grateful for our good stewardship and God s earth will look a little better for those coming after us! So thank you and keep on saving!! God bless you! A gift was made to the Fund for the Needy in Memory of Gary Clifton Our Bulletin Sponsor of the Week is: We encourage our parishioners to patronize our bulletin sponsors. It is through their generosity that our weekly bulletin comes to you at no publishing cost.
