4 Together Let Us Cause God Joy Today is the 6 th Sunday of Easter, and the Responsorial Psalm is, Let all the earth cry out to God with joy. (Psalm 66:1-3,4-5,6-7,16,20). John s Gospel is simple and to the point. If you love me, you will keep my commandments, and Jesus will send the Spirit of Truth. Tomorrow is Memorial Day, so please keep all of our service men and women, both living and dead, in your prayers, as well as their families, who also sacrifice for them to serve. Families are asked to bring their loved ones burial flags and be recognized during the ceremony. The program is open to all, and will include a traditional rifle salute, Taps, a guest speaker, wreath laying, and the raising of service flags. It s suggested that attendees bring their own lawn chairs; in case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the historic Henry Ford Hangar. 6 May 24-25, 2014 Dear St. Ann Family, Home of the Free Because of the Brave Wishing everyone a blessed Memorial Day. On Memorial Day (and everyday), we honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives so our freedom lives. We also are thankful for all those who have served, and to the men and women who are currently serving; they certainly have put themselves second and God and Country first. A thank you, too, to Military Families from a fellow proud Army wife. Let s continue to support each other as we support our Nation s Heroes. Egg Drop on Tuesday Mrs. Echterling, our junior high science teacher, will host our annual Egg Drop in the school parking lot at eggs-actly 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. All are welcome to come on out and cheer for the eggs! Our 8 th graders will see if their containers designed to protect an uncooked egg can survive a very steep drop off of the top of a fire engine s ladder. Hopefully all eggs will persevere and not become egg drop soup! Thank you, Lansing Fire Department, for assisting us in this experiment and fun St. Ann tradition. All of our classes will be on hand to witness the results. My favorites are always the eggs sporting parachutes.) St. Ann School Class of 2014 Graduates on Friday Each year, graduation is bittersweet to me. I do not want to let our students go, as I have enjoyed getting to know each and every one and watching them learn and grow as young adults. However, I realize they are ready to go forth from the classrooms of St. Ann School into the world to become what God created them to be. This year s class of 29 students were strong leaders for our school; they lovingly took care of our little ones. I was witness to this every day. May God bless them on their life journey, and may the Holy Spirit continue to guide them. St. Ann will always be their home, and I look forward to following their successes and futures filled with hope. The graduation mass will be celebrated this Friday at 7 p.m. Thank You, Mr. Cole! A very special thank you to Bob Cole from Schroeder Lauer Funeral Home for the donation of a defibrillator (AED), which will be kept near the school office. The AED was donated in memory of Joe Lauer; a plaque in Mr. Lauer s honor is displayed beneath the life -saving device. It s Not Too Late to Get In On Techie Trot 5k run/walk! Saturday, june 7, 8:00 a.m. Winterhoff Park, lansing While many of our staff members are already trained on how to use this device, our entire faculty and staff will be CPR trained in August during our in-service days prior to our August 20 school start date. AED training will also be provided at the in-service training. Registration Continues. Several Caritas Grants Awarded. Registration for the school year is underway. Please call us and schedule a tour I d love to show you Catholic education at its finest! Caritas grants are available via the Archdiocese to new families who qualify for financial assistance. I have been able to award almost $13,000 in Caritas grants for the school year, and funds are still available. You CAN afford the very best education for your child.
