Help Wanted ~ No Experience Required Our Resurrection Choir is in need of new members to help provide prayerful and reflective music to give solace to those mourning their loved ones at funerals. Most funerals take place at 10:00 a.m., Monday-Saturday. Call the Parish Office to have your name added to our phone list, and you will receive a call when a funeral is scheduled. Please spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal Come, Follow Me brochure that you received with your bulletin this weekend. Please remember, the Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable in installments. Each pledge makes a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign, and the gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services to answer Jesus call to Come, Follow Me. After St. Ann reaches our 2018 goal of $33,917 in paid pledges, 100% of the additional monies received will be returned to us for use in our Parish to help fund our needs. If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back or bring it to Mass next weekend. For those of you who did not receive a mailing or have not had time to respond to it, we will conduct our in-pew pledge process at all Masses next weekend. 6 Sunday, January 28: Celebrating Our Parish We benefit all year long from the religious guidance, prayers, and support St. Ann Parish provides our school. We will celebrate at the 10:30 a.m. Mass on January 28. Immediately following Mass will be an Open House in the school. Friends old and new are welcome to come and explore, meet the teachers, and learn about our curriculum. Monday, January 29: Celebrating Our Community A central aspect of Catholic education is learning the importance of service to others. When students take part in service activities they demonstrate the values and faith gained through Catholic education. This year, our Catholic Schools Week service project will benefit the Women s Center in Calumet City. We will be collecting diapers (Newborn and Size 1) and bath supplies for the Center s clients. Tuesday, January 30: Celebrating Our Students A day of fun for our students will include an Ice Cream Social and the continuation of the Academic Bowl that began at Special Persons Day. This will also be a Class Color Dress Down Day in which each class will choose a color and wear it to show their unity. Wednesday, January 31: Celebrating the Nation On National Appreciation Day for Catholic Schools, students, families, educators and other Catholic school supporters communicate the value of Catholic education to government leaders. We will welcome the Mayor of Lansing, Patty Eidam, who will meet the Student Council and address the entire student body. We will also hold our next Open House from 9-11:00 a.m., so our visitors can see our classes in action. Thursday, February 1: Celebrating Vocations By focusing on faith, knowledge, and service, Catholic schools prepare children to use their God-given talents to the fullest later in life. On Wednesday and Thursday, our school library will play host to the JClub Catholic Book Fair, and Sister Jackie of Pauline Books & Media will speak to the students about religious vocations. A career choice can also be a vocation, so this will be our What I Want to Be When I Grow Up Day, giving our students the chance to dress for the career they hope to someday have. We end the day with a Skating Party at the Lynwood Sports Center from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Parish and Religious Education families are welcome to join us for some skating fun! Friday, February 2: Celebrating Faculty and Staff Today we will thank our teachers and principal, as well as staff who support them in their important work, with a lunch in their honor. As per our current leader, Annette Leber, our SPRED volunteers are retiring and need others to take their places to assist our friends with special needs in our faith community. We are having a meeting Monday, February 5 at 7:00 p.m. in Church for parents of children, adolescents, young adults, and adults with special needs, as well as interested adults who want to be a role model to our friends in working with this ministry. You will meet Annette and her group who will explain the SPRED program. Parishioners with intellectual and developmental disabilities and learning problems from the age of six to well into their 80s are served through various Archdiocese SPRED programs. At St. Ann, we serve residents from LARC who are adults (ages 22 and older). St. Ann SPRED is seeking adult men and women who want to grow in their faith and be a friend to one person from LARC within a small faith group of eight volunteers and six friends. We are looking for volunteers who enjoy meeting others, and are open to friendships with other parishioners. This ministry helps each participant become more aware of the presence of God in their lives through a specialized program. Each volunteer is paired with a friend and they learn from each other, and experience joy, laughter, prayer and hope and fellowship. No prior experience is needed to become a volunteer, and training is provided. The group meets monthly September to June. For more information, please call the Parish Office at
