4 Many Blessings... An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. Proverbs 18:15 My sister and niece took me to a California new cuisine place where everything was grown and made organically. After I read their menu which made no sense to me at all I thought Huh! Dates, smoked almonds and ricotta on a pizza? What is this Fritto Misto? And then the nice young waiter patiently explained to me what it all meant in terms I could understand. It turns out the food we ordered was amazing! My niece thanked me for trying something new and my appetite doubly thanked me as it was delicious! Sometimes we see things or hear things and we say huh, like trying to figure out hash tags. And sometimes we still don t understand the old stuff because we never actually learned it or had it explained to us. For instance, I still have no idea how to get on Facebook (which astonishes most people!). We can become a little complacent and less passionate about those things we don t get. Do we go to church and just follow a routine, or do we look at each part of the Mass and really absorb what is going on? What does receiving the Body and Blood of Christ mean? How do we interpret the words of Our Father? How are the Beatitudes telling us to live? When was the last time you gave meaning and thought to the 10 Commandments? We can learn a lot from observing, listening, asking questions and doing some research. We can Google anything these days! We can seek information from our many St. Ann ministries which can provide helpful insights for adults, teens and children. Challenge yourself to learn something new, and to learn something new about something old! If we take the time to understand and absorb that which surrounds us every day, we will be amazed by what we learn and are willing to embrace! We can deepen and re-spark our passion for being disciples of Jesus. Understanding can help us renew our faith and enlighten our path along our journey to everlasting life with the Lord. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Don t forget to write! If you re going to be away this summer, you can place your weekly envelopes in the Sunday collection or leave them at the Parish Office before you go or upon your return. Another option is to visit and automate your contributions either through a regularly scheduled direct withdrawal or a credit card transaction. Just remember that individual envelopes still need to be turned in physically before the weekly drawings if you intend to participate. Safe travels to all of our parishioners and loved ones this summer, and please don t forget about us! We rely greatly on your support and often have difficulty making ends meet when summer Mass attendance declines.
