2012 Annual Report of Time, Talent, and Treasure An Attitude of Gratitude There is an attitude of gratitude In everything I do, For all that God has given me And dreams that have come true. I'm thankful for the gifts He gives, Each blessing I have known, For friends I've met along the way And strength to carry on. There's an attitude of gratitude With every prayer I say, For something good has come my way Each and every day. Through trials and tribulations, I've felt His presence there, And I have often found relief Beneath the wings of prayer. However bad my circumstance, I know things could be worse, But Christ has been my anchor When things have been adverse. I know how truly blessed I am, And God will bless you, too! There's an attitude of gratitude In everything I do! Clay Harrison

STEWARDSHIP PRAYER Gracious and loving God, open our eyes to see your hand at work in the splendor of creation. In the beauty of life. Touched by your hand our world is holy. Help us to cherish the gifts that surround us, to share your blessings with our brothers and sisters, and to experience the joy of life in your presence. Amen.

Dear Parishioners: September, 2012 Each year it is the obligation of the Pastor and the Parish Finance Council to present to parishioners an annual Stewardship report. In past years we have presented a financial picture of the parish. This year we have expanded our report to include our parish response to sharing all areas of stewardship of Time, Talent, and Treasure. I hope you take a few moments to look at this report in order to see the many wonderful ways so many of our Resurrection faith community share of their time and talent along with their financial resources. You will see that we have categorized Time and Talent in accord with Worship, Community, Service, and Living Faith. The time you extend in these areas of parish life are magnificent. We could never produce a budget that would make up for your contributed service in both time and talent. You will notice in the Finance section of the report that we continue to successfully fund our parish operation with a total parish income of $1,810,268. Obviously your Sunday tithe represents the vast majority of our income, with $1, coming from your envelopes and gifts. Yet, the disappointing factor remains that nearly 33% of our parishioners do not participate in stewardship in any form. This remains a big challenge for our parish. Please note the statistics for this past year. We are a parish of 2,264 households and 6,473 persons. We baptized 86 children, and buried another 50 parishioners. Another sign of parish vitality is that we baptize more people than we bury. We continue to pay back our debts to the Archdiocesan Deposit and Loan fund. As of this writing, we will be below the $300,000 mark in what remains to be paid on the church renovation and addition. As of June 30 th we owed $352,936. We continue to average about $30, in income each month on the capital campaign. As I write this, the Festival appears to once again have produced an income above our anticipated budget of $80,000.00, with a profit of $102,000 again in That alleviates the projected deficit for of $15,732. It is a pleasure to be your pastor, and I am grateful for the heartfelt cooperation of so many at Resurrection. May God who has blessed us in so many ways continue to be our source of strength and grace. Father Joe Hauer Pastor

Resurrection Parish Annual Report of Stewardship Of Time & Talent Fiscal Year 7/1/11 6/30/12 Worship Worship is the first response of the baptized to God s gracious gifts. Through worship we communally express adoration, praise, and gratitude. [Resurrection Guide to Involvement, p. 6] On any given weekend in the year, a total of 76 parishioners are needed as liturgical ministers at the five Masses. This includes individuals ministering as sacristans, greeters, altar servers, music ministers, ushers, readers, and Extraordinary Ministers of Communion. The number of parishioners who give their talent for liturgical ministries: Extraordinary Ministers of Communion (weekends, weekdays, funerals, homebound, and care centers) 382 Music ministers (choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists) 121 Readers (weekends, weekdays, weddings, and funerals) 118 Altar servers (weekends, weekdays, weddings, and funerals) 128 Greeters (weekends, funerals, and special parish liturgies) 141 Ushers (weekends and funerals) 50 Care of the altar linens 7 Create/maintain the liturgical environment 6 Sacristans (weekends, weekdays, and weddings) 19 Set up and take down chairs and environment for children s liturgies (Christmas and Easter) in the school gym 32

There are 6,473 parishioners at Resurrection. An average of 2,727 of them attend weekend Mass. Stewardship of Time in Prayer: (number of parishioners in each category) Resurrection Prayer Chain 368 Eucharistic Adoration each Tuesday 31 Hours spent in Adoration 9 1/2 hours each Tuesday, 494 hours/year Average attendance at daily Mass 90 Prayers for vocations (one day/month - 31 Club) 78 Senior parishioners who pray for needs specified by the Pastor 37 Those who gather weekly in small group settings to share Scripture and prayer 42

Community Resurrection is a dynamic, giving community of individuals who focus on the needs of the whole. As a stewardship parish, we are mindful of the obligation referenced in the Parable of the Talents in the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew ): God gives us gifts solely for the purpose of sharing them. Only then do they multiply. [Resurrection Guide to Involvement, p. 12] Parish committees meet eleven times a year. Committee chairpersons and their phone numbers are listed in the weekly bulletin. Number of parishioners on each committee: Parish Council 11 Liturgy 16 Faith Formation 15 Social Justice 23 Parish Community Life 18 Vocations 8 St. Vincent de Paul 31 Stewardship 18 Finance 7 Partner Parish 12 Building & Grounds 13 Environmental Stewardship 12 Youth Leadership Team 42 The annual parish festival requires 950 volunteers.

Scouts: Sunday Donuts: Special Parish Events: Bereavement Ministry: BeFriender Ministry: Rosary Makers: Prayer Shawls: M.O.M.S.: Youth Ministry: Rides to Mass: Host Families: There are 96 Girl Scouts, 45 Cub Scouts, and 15 Boy Scouts in Resurrection Parish. Twelve (12) parishioners set up and tear down tables and chairs for these events, while seventy-eight (78) people serve food and beverages. Four (4) parishioners are on the Bereavement Team. Fourteen (14) parishioners are involved with the BeFriender ministry. These individuals conduct 780 visits per year providing a yearly total of about 800 hours of service to others. Seven (7) parishioners make rosaries for our parish and for the missions. Shawls are made by eight (8) individuals. These are given to parishioners who are ill, have suffered a loss, or have moved to a care center. There were 18 women in the parish who attended MOMS this year (bringing the total to 129 since the program s inception in 2004). There are 73 families who serve as host families to welcome new members to our parish.

Service By our baptism we are called to serve one another, whether in the broader Church, our local parish, or our own homes. St. Paul tells us in his First Letter to the Corinthians that in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body (1 Cor ). Paul illustrates the fact that each part of the body is vital to the survival of the whole. Our Resurrection Parish Mission Statement commits us to daily loving and serving others, especially those most in need. [Resurrection Guide to Involvement, p. 22] Parish groups traveled to Okolona MI, Wanblee SD, and Baltimore MD this year. In Okolona, seven (7) parishioners taught in a summer education program for children and did light maintenance work. On the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Wanblee, nine (9) parishioners painted the inside and the outside of the church, and built relationships with the parishioners of St. Ignatius, which is our Sister Parish. Ten (10) high school youth traveled to Baltimore, where they assisted clients of an adult day care center, and worked in a building material recycling center. Twenty (20) youth helped with landscaping and painting at local non-profit organizations. Funeral dinners at Resurrection were served by 148 parishioners. Salads and desserts for these dinners were donated by 273 households.

The Resurrection St. Vincent De Paul Society assisted 175 families this past year at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, and at other times of need. Confirmation students collected over 6,000 items for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry by participating in the Trick or Treat for Food stewardship opportunity. These items were used for Thanksgiving baskets. Resurrection parishioners helped serve 300 meals at the Dubuque Rescue Mission. One hundred eight (108) parishioners assist the parish office with clerical duties and special projects as needed. Fifty-five (55) parishioners are available to help with construction, maintenance projects, and upkeep of the parish grounds. Elderly and homebound parishioners are visited monthly by 30 volunteers. There were 360 visits made this year. The parish Scrip program is staffed in various capacities by 25 people. Eleven (11) parishioners volunteer alternately as sacristans on two Saturdays each month at Ecumenical Tower. The church is vacuumed following each wedding by one of seven (7) volunteers. Bridges Out of Poverty is a program that provides mentors to, and develops relationships with persons trying to work their way out of poverty. Our parish Social Justice Committee and the men s Scripture sharing group provided meals and support for this program. Three (3) parishioners also serve this program as mentors. There are 12 individuals who conduct weekly Communion Services at Heritage Manor, Dubuque Nursing & Rehabilitation, and Dubuque Retirement Community. Seven (7) parishioners serve as readers and Extraordinary Ministers of Communion at Masses on two Tuesdays each month at Dubuque Retirement Community. Ninety-one (91) confirmation students contributed 900 hours in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, meals at St. Patrick Parish, Trick or Treat for food for the parish St. Vincent de Paul Society, and bingo games at Ecumenical Tower.

Living Faith Continuing one s faith formation and education are an essential part of the life of a Christian. Resurrection Parish takes seriously its responsibility to provide for the cradle to grave development of the sacramental and faith lives of its parishioners. [Resurrection Guide to Involvement, p. 28] Resurrection School There are 250 students enrolled in Resurrection School. One hundred and ten (110) parishioners volunteer at the school. Religious Education There are 325 students who attend the Religious Education Program at Resurrection. This program is staffed by 37 parishioners who serve as catechists and volunteers. Children s Liturgy of the Word Resurrection parish has 52 individuals scheduled to assist with Children s Liturgy of the Word at two Masses each weekend throughout the year.
