Roe Sam Sances Rose Peterson Robert Schopp Finding My Way, a bereavement group, helps participants cope with the loss of loved ones. A six-week session of our Adult Edition will meet on Thursdays October 13, 20, and 27, November 3, 10, and 17 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Parish Office. The group setting helps participants find comfort, courage, and support from others also grieving. Group sessions are focused on helping participants understand the grief process, process their grief, use support systems, and move forward emotionally. The holidays can be especially difficult for those experiencing loss in their lives, so our last session will focus on preparing for the holiday season. Finding My Way is facilitated by Debbie Bona, a licensed and nationally certified counselor, and Sharon Starks-Wells, an MA counselor in training. There are no fees or registration. What better gift can you give to someone homebound, in the hospital, or a nursing home than the gift of the Eucharist? asks Carol. It s like walking on a bridge between the church and the parishioner, bringing love from the church to help keep that connection with those unable to attend Mass, so they don t feel forgotten, she adds. Volunteers of this ministry are Eucharistic Ministers and receive special training to become Ministers of Care. You must be a parishioner and have made your Communion and Confirmation to become a Minister of Care for St. Ann Parish. If you wish to join, please call the Parish Office at Re-Mandating for Eucharistic Ministers and Ministers of Care Tuesday, October 25, 7:00 p.m. in Church We are scheduled as a Parish to be re-mandated in November Whether you have been recently mandated as an EM, or have been one since our last Parish mandate in 2013, attendance is required. You will not be able to stay on the schedule, sub as an EM, or be a Minister of Care EM unless you are re-mandated. This is an Archdiocese of Chicago policy. 6 October 16, 2016 Dear St. Ann Parish Family, Safety First. Safety Always. St. Ann School is proud to be participating in safety workshops sponsored by the Archdiocese of Chicago and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Parishes and parish schools are examining their safety policies and procedures and are asked to write an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). We already work very closely with the Lansing Police Department on various safety drills. In addition, Lansing Police officers stop by frequently and conduct school walk-throughs. The workshops we attend challenge both school and parish representatives with what if scenarios, including safety and weather threats that may happen during a school day, Religious Ed. class, or during Mass. Safety is always a work in progress; we continue to advance, improve, and prepare. Supper Club Hope to see you at Schoop s in Munster on Wednesday, October 19. Burgers & fries & milkshakes = midweek comfort food! Operation Buddy Bench Thank you for collecting caps and lids for our parish-wide Buddy Bench program. A few weeks ago during religion class, our students gathered in the School Hall to assist in sorting the caps and lids as one of our service projects. Ms. Debbie Wright, Mrs. Debbie Bona, and our teachers also helped to pack and weigh several bags as we prepare to send the inventory in to be melted down into a buddy bench. A Day of Pre-School in an Hour This Thursday, October 20 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., our pre-school parents are invited to attend a day s agenda of pre-school fast forwarded into an hour s time. Just like their children, parents will sing, play, dance, and participate in several activities planned by our pre-school teacher, Mrs. Baxter. Each year, the Women s Center sees over 5,000 expectant mothers in their three locations, one of which is located at Our Lady of Knock. Please take a Baby Bottle home with you from St. Ann s the weekend of October 15-16, fill it with your spare change, and return it the weekend of November 6. Needed items include shampoo & conditioner, hair grease or oil, detangler hair spray, black rubber bands, Vaseline (large jars), hand sanitizer wipes, facial tissues, foam paper plates, table napkins, wax paper cups (7oz.), foam cups, diapers (sizes 4, 5,6), Pullups (sizes 2T-3T, 4T-5T), baby formula (ONLY Gerber Good Start Gentle in the orange can), baby wipes (unscented, hypoallergenic), baby bottle brushes, individually wrapped animal or cheese crackers, drinking water (small bottles), 100% juice boxes, gift cards for AMC Theaters, Pizza Hut, Walmart, Target etc. Donations may be brought to the Lansing Council 3540 at Lorenz in Lansing until November 30. All items should be scent-free, hypoallergenic, and healthy. 8
