4 From the Pastor s Pen Dear Friends, Lent is the liturgical season of prayer, fasting, almsgiving and repentance. It is a commemoration of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and is also a renewal of our baptismal commitment. Many of us approach this season by giving up something we enjoy such as candy, a favorite TV show, or Facebook, to name a few. Others decide to do something extra as a spiritual discipline of sorts; examples include reading a daily devotional, spending more time in prayer, or volunteering. What will YOU do on your Lenten Journey? This is not simply a question, but also the theme for a project we will participate in as a parish family. During the weekend of February 14-15, we will have strips of purple paper distributed during all the Masses. You will be asked to write what you will be doing on your Lenten journey- give something up or doing something extra. These strips will then be joined with those of our school and religious education students to form a chain that we will display in Church during Lent. The chain will serve as a reminder of the commitment each of us made when we were asked, What will YOU do on your Lenten Journey? Thank you for your participation. Fr. It helps to become involved with others who have experienced something similar. Sharing eases loneliness and allows an expression of grief in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding. Grief is a testament to the person who has left us. Love does not end, so we feel the loss for years to come. Coffee & Comfort is a place to share stories, to confide in others who truly understand, and to discover hope and healing. We meet on the first Monday of every month. Please Support the 2015 Annual Catholic Appeal: Entrusted with Responsibility Please spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual Catholic appeal brochure that you received with your bulletin. Please remember that it is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledge campaign in which you can make a gift payable in installments. God provides each of us with many gifts. As we reflect on His gifts to us, we realize we are entrusted with responsibility. Your gifts to our St. Ann Parish, to the Archdiocese, and to the work of the Church throughout the world are given in gratitude for the continuing gifts that God gives you. Each pledge makes a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign, and the gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services. Our combined gifts no only signify our gratitude to God, they fund a significant portion of the work of our Archdiocese. After our Parish goal of $36,897 is reached, 100% of any additional funds come back to St. Ann to help fund our needs. If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back, or bring it to Mass next weekend. We re seeking a director for St. Ann Vacation Bible School. It is time to pass the baton to someone new and full of energy and enthusiasm! The dates this year are June 22-25, 2015 (Monday thru Thursday). We meet from 9 am. until noon, with a closing program and a picnic following our regular class on the last day. Filled with class time, art time, game time, singing time and snack time, the days fly by. The total commitment for the week is 50 hours, and the rewards are everlasting. If you would like to volunteer to head up this fun ministry, please call Mrs. A (Barb) at the Parish office at or I will walk you though the process. In February, you can pick out the program that we will do this year. Lots of fun and lots of learning, come be a part of this important and fulfilling Ministry.
