4 Believing in Jesus Christ Throughout the Easter season, all three of the Sunday readings are taken from the New Testament the Christian scriptures. Together they explore what it means to believe in Jesus as the Christ, the One who fulfilled the prophecies of the Jewish scriptures. Today s selections refer to our human weakness, yet they emphasize the forgiveness and peace that are available to those who put their faith in Jesus Christ the righteous one (1 John 2:2). In the Acts of the Apostles Peter invites everyone to repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away (Acts 3:19). The First Letter of John calls Jesus Christ expiation for our sins (1 John 2:2). Finally, in the Gospel Jesus greets the disciples with Peace and urges them to preach repentance, for the forgiveness of sins (Luke 24:47). Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Together Let Us Cause God Joy Today is April 15, 2018 and the Third Sunday of Easter. The Responsorial Psalm is, Lord, let Your face shine on us; Lord, let Your face shine on us. (Psalm 4:2,4,7-8,9) This week's question is: Can you forgive someone who has hurt you or someone you love? THE BEATITUDES (Matthew 5:2-120 from the Jerusalem Bible) 1. How happy are the poor in spirit: theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 2. Happy the gentle: they shall have the earth for their heritage. 3. Happy those who mourn: they shall be comforted. 4. Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right: they shall be satisfied. 5. Happy the merciful: they shall have mercy shown them. 6. Happy the pure in heart: they shall see God. 7. Happy the peacemakers: they shall be called sons of God. 8. Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right: theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Do you want to make a difference in the lives of others? Do you want people to believe the church is their home? We need to love others and ourselves. Love God and love one another as you love yourself. When we live the Beatitudes and the 10 Commandments, we truly live the way God wants us to live and behave. The Carmelite Sisters have cared for hundreds of children, and now provide a fully accredited on-campus school for those girls who need one-to-one academic assistance and a more structured classroom environment. Visit for more information. We will be collecting for them in the Narthex over the next two weekends. The Carmelite home is most in need of the following items: diapers, sizes 5 and 6, small and medium sized Depends, winter uniform shirts (red, white, and navy blue polos in sizes from 8-16), winter uniform pants (navy blue and khaki in sizes 8, 10, 13, 14, and 17), Kleenex, gift cards to Skyzone, Walmart, Dollar Tree and Chucky Cheese, Gentle Gerber Smooth baby formula (purple can), and Pedialyte or Pedialyte popsicles. Call the Parish office FMI, Are you interested in joining our SPRED Ministry but are unsure what they do? You are invited to observe a session at the Archdiocesan SPRED Center in Chicago, Monday, April 30, from 7:00-9:30 p.m. St. Ann is planning a carpool to this observation. Please call the Parish Office at if interested. Parishioners with intellectual and developmental disabilities and learning problems from the age of six to well into their 80s are served through various Archdiocese SPRED programs which help participants become more aware of the presence of God in their lives. At St. Ann, we serve adult residents from LARC ages 22 and older. We are in need of adult men and women who want to grow in their faith and be a friend to one person from LARC within a small faith group of eight volunteers and six friends who learn from each other, and experience joy, laughter, prayer and hope and fellowship. As per the current leader, Annette Leber, our SPRED volunteers are retiring and need others to take their places in continuing this faith community. No prior experience is needed to become a volunteer and training is provided. The group meets September to June. Thank you to the St. Ann Lectors for hosting our hospitality after Masses last weekend! Free Newspaper for Seniors Did you know Catholic Charities has a free newspaper just for senior citizens? Keenager News is published 10 times a year and is delivered to your door. This publication contains news, opinion, human interest, how-to, and travel articles, along with humor, puzzles, and recipes. Kelley s GOOD NEIGHBOR DAY PARADE, MAY 5 Celebrating Lansing s 125th Anniversary: From 1893 to 2018 and Everything In Between! After many years of creativity and countless hours of skilled devotion to building our St. Ann floats for the Good Neighbor Day Parade, Mr. Scheppe has retired. We are so grateful for all of his help and dedication! A small group has formed to take over the coordination of our parade entry for this year. We have already registered as a decorated vehicle (not a float) with accompanying walkers and will learn our position soon. We need more people to help determine our theme, decorate, and organize the walkers--we will continue to recruit participants through school and church. Form a group with family, friends, and neighbors, or participate individually. You can choose a clean-up location or have one assigned to you; garbage bags and a limited supply of gloves will be provided (please bring gloves if you have them). A BBQ lunch will be provided at First (across Ridge Road from Village Hall) for all volunteers after the work is done. You must register for this event either online at or by calling Vivian at It s important to register so the Village knows where to pick up the litter your group collects and so we have a head count for lunch. Community Clean-Up Day will take place rain or shine, so dress for the weather of the day. 7 The Junior Girl Scouts of Troop are currently working on their Bronze Award, the highest honor a Junior can achieve, and their opportunity to create a service project and positively impact the lives of others. The girls have chosen to run a supply drive to benefit Ronald McDonald House. Please look for the decorated collection box in the Narthex from April 7-8 to April Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families of pediatric patients receiving treatment at Advocate Children s Hospital. By donating new and unused items from their Wish List, you help defray the cost of supplies used every day in the House. Needed items include: Clorox wipes, unscented and dye free liquid laundry detergent, fabric softener sheets, paper towels, gallon-sized zip lock bags, Lysol spray, gloves for cooking and cleaning, 13-gallon kitchen garbage bags, and gift cards for Home Depot and Target (for purchasing items as they run low). Also appreciated are toothbrushes and travel-sized toothpaste and deodorants, gas cards, and gift cards to local restaurants and coffee shops.
