2 OUR LADY OF SORROWS PARISH MONROE, OH Our Small Church Communities - an ideal way to grow in faith Our parish Small Church Communities offer an ideal way to continue your formation in the Catholic Faith. Small Church Communities have been active in our parish for ten years. Parishioners gather in groups of 8 to 12 in an informal setting every other week from mid-september through November, and from January through May to: prepare for weekend Mass by reflecting on the readings; connect the Gospel and our faith tradition to their daily life; experience and nurture a deep, lasting relationship with Jesus; develop relationships with fellow parishioners to enrich their faith and deepen their spirituality. We begin each 90 minute session with prayer and a reflection on the Sunday readings. This season we will be focusing on the Gospel passage each week. We will follow with a discussion of a faith-related topic. This season, the topic for our first six sessions will help us increase our relationship with Jesus by discussing Bishop Robert Barron s series The Mass. The following eight sessions will include discussions of a variety of Catholic topics. You don t have to know anything special to belong. Groups meet most days of the week at various times. You ve never explored your faith like this before! Sign-up opportunities continue this weekend. Use the sign-up sheets in the Gathering Space or sign up on the display. Even if you have been involved with one of our groups, we ask you to sign up again - and maybe suggest it to a friend. NEXT WEEKEND S READINGS TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Isaiah 35:4-7 To a people deaf and blind to God, the prophet announces the joy of salvation: they will see and hear and become new. Second Reading: James 2:1-5 It is a betrayal of the Christian sense of community to honor the rich and humiliate the poor, says James. God loves the poor and makes them rich in faith. Gospel Reading: Mark 7:31-37 The deaf-mute stands for those closed to God. Jesus came to open people to God, so that they can praise his great deeds. His attention to the poor is the sign that the kingdom has come.
