Today s Gospel says clearly that those who aspire to greatness must humbly serve the needs of all. Even Jesus came not to be served, but to serve. 4 In Our Parish... PARISHIONER SENIOR LUNCH As we usually do, our November Senior Lunch will be combined with our December Senior Lunch. The date has yet to be confirmed but it will most likely be in December. Watch for details! LADY OF GUADALUPE RAFFLE Do you have Christmas or birthday gifts in your closet that you would like to re-gift? Our Green Cove Church would like those unused gifts. TOO MUCH INFORMATION! There is a common expression: Too much informa on! We usually use it when people tell us details about their lives that we don t want or need to know. Today, when James and John ask Jesus a simple ques- on, making their request for places of honor in the kingdom, a simple answer might have been in order. Instead, as he o en does, Jesus answers a ques on with a ques- on; today it s about drinking the cup of suffering. Then, once the others are indignant over James and John s outrageous request, he proceeds to give them what may have been too much informa on for followers who were simply interested in the pursuit of glory. But this informa on, though it can some mes seem too much for us, is essen al for our lives as disciples. In Isaiah, in Hebrews, and in Mark today, we learn this informa on. It is in suffering, in weakness, in self-giving service to others, that we come to understand the kingdom. It is the informa on we need to find our place and come to be honored in the reign of God. Marriage Prepara on Marriage Prepara on: To schedule a wedding, an engaged couple must meet with their parish priest or deacon at least eight months before their proposed wedding date. Prepara on for the sacrament includes a ending a diocesan program such as Engaged Encounter or Pre Cana. Also, couples of child-bearing age will need to take a full course of Natural Family Planning. Pre-registra on for each of these programs is mandatory. The next Engaged Encounter program will be November 16 th 18 th at Marywood Retreat Center. The next Pre Cana program will be December 18 th in Jacksonville.
