3 SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND Today s special second collec on is for The Catholic University of America, unique among universi es in the United States, as the na onal university of the Catholic Church. Nearly one third of all of the U. S. bishops, archbishops, and cardinals in our country are alumni, along with more than 12,400 living priests and religious from around the world. Located in Washington, D. C., the university provides an educa on based in Catholic intellectual tradi on to nearly 7,000 students through its 12 schools that include arts and sciences, music, engineering, philosophy, social work, law, and business, in addi on to ecclesias cal degrees in canon law and theology. Your contribu ons will strengthen the work of our top scholars, many of whom help to explain Catholic social teaching to the rest of the world. It will also support scholarships for students in our diocese and others in achieving our mission of preparing the next genera on of leaders for our Church and na on including those studying to become our future priests and religious. And a special congratula ons goes out to Ken Santucci, who was the winner of our raffle basket. SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND The second collec on next weekend is for the fuel and maintenance funds. Thank you for your generosity. It is also the weekend to bring dona ons, food or monetary, for the Maxfield Food Pantry. There is a small basket in the Luzerne church entrance for monetary dona ons. Monetary dona ons are used to purchase packages of hamburger or chicken BISHOP S APPEAL Our assessment this year is $31, To date, 127 gi s have been pledged/given for a total of $29,535, which leaves us $2,150 to complete our goal. OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH Baby gi s will be collected during the month of October for Catholic Charity s Community Maternity Services and Open Arms pregnancy centers. Mostly needed are diapers, sizes 3, 4, 5 and 6, blankets, sweaters, jackets, snow suits and other clothing, especially sized months, 3T, 4T, and 5T and baby wipes, and other baby toiletries. (Open Arms also collects summer clothing as they have the room to store them.) Baskets will be placed at the back of the church. Thank you. NEW FRONT STEPS Our next major project will be replacement of the front steps in Corinth which are showing serious deteriora on. The ini al bids on this project are running $19,000 to $25,000. Although we have a small start on these funds, we have a long way to go Anyone who would like to contribute please put your dona on in an envelope marked Front Steps, and place in the basket. Thank you, The Finance Council TRANSITION OF TABLE OF THE LORD Sunday, September 18, was the last broadcast of the televised version of Table of the Lord. The Diocese will begin live streaming the Mass each week on its website ( beginning Sunday, September 25, at 9:30 a.m. Please check The Evangelist, the diocesan website, and social media for more informa on in the coming weeks. We ask parishioners who move away for the winter months to provide the Office with a seasonal address since Bishop s Appeal billing statements and tax receipts are not forwarded by the USPS. Returned billing statements result in higher unpaid pledge balances at the closeout of the Appeal.
