2 St. Mary Church Mass Schedule Saturday 4:30pm Sunday 7:00am & 10:00am Tuesday at 7:30am Wednesday, July 4th, Mass will be at 8:00am (this week only) Thursday and Friday at 7:30am *When there is a funeral, there is no weekday morning scheduled Mass. Confession First Friday 6:45-7:10am Saturday 3:30-4:10pm *On Saturday when there is a wedding, there will be no confessions. Anointing of the Sick: If facing surgery, dealing with a chronic illness, serious accident or nearing the end of life, notify the parish office if you would like Fr. Erbacher to administer Anointing of the Sick. Sacrament of Baptism: Baptisms will take place the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month with Fr. Erbacher or Deacon John. Effie s First Friday Mass - Fellowship - Food Beginning July 6 (unless there is a funeral), Fr. Effie will have First Friday Mass at 7:30am. After Mass, parishioners are invited to The Rock Bar and Grill for fellowship and food. Everyone will be responsible for their own food and drink. This will be a way for Fr. Effie to get to know you and you to get to know him. St. John Bosco Youth Ministry St. John Bosco Catholic Youth Ministry reaches out to youth in grades 6 through 12 from St. Mary, Holy Family, Precious Blood, and St. Joseph. The Extravaganza is where we gather as adults to review the ministerial avenues of St. John Bosco Youth Ministry, get volunteers for the upcoming school year and enjoy each other s presence as leaders in youth ministry. May God bless you on your special day. Diocese of Evansville opens House of Discernment The Father Deydier House of Discernment will open this August at Sacred Heart Rectory in Evansville. The house will provide a place for young men, ages 19-30, to discern God s call in their lives. Fr. Tyler Tenbarge will serve as Chaplain and Director of the House. Young men interested in applying can contact Fr. Alex Zenthoefer at or azenthoefer@evdio.org. What does the Catholic Church teach about Purgatory? The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines purgatory as a "purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven," which is experienced by those "who die in God s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified" (CCC 1030). It notes that "this final purification of the elect... is entirely different from the punishment of the damned" (CCC 1031). The purification is necessary because, as Scripture teaches, nothing unclean will enter the presence of God in heaven (Rev. 21:27) and, while we may die with our mortal sins forgiven, there can still be many impurities in us, specifically venial sins and the temporal punishment due to sins already forgiven. If you have ever used a vending machine that accepts dollar bills, sometimes it can be frustrating when the machine will continue to reject the paper money until it is creased out and made nice and smooth. The money still has its worth but just needs to be properly prepared before the machine will accept it. This is a lot like heaven you are worthy of entering into God s kingdom as soon as you get all your wrinkles ironed out. Stay tuned next week to see how this purification process takes place. Help us remember that our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness were signed into our heritage with the willing blood of American patriots. Most of all, help us remember that the rights of all people are more than words on a document, and that all people have rights because you have given us the dignity of human life. Grant freedom to all, and give us the strength to protect the rights of others. Amen... Mass will be celebrated at 8:00am. This is a time change for this week only. The Parish Office will be closed. If you will have a first grade student in the fall, be sure and sign them up. Return your form and fee in the collection basket, by mail or dropping it off in the parish office.
