2 St. Mary Church Mass Schedule Saturday 4:30pm Sunday 7:00am and 10:00am Tuesday at 6:00pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 7:30am *There will be no morning Mass on funeral mornings. Also when school is cancelled or delayed because of the weather, there will be no morning/evening Mass. Sacrament of Reconciliation at St. Mary Church First Friday 7:00-7:20am Saturday 3:30-4:00pm *On Saturday when there is a wedding, there will be no confessions. Anointing of the Sick: Notify the parish office if there is a need for Fr. Erbacher to administer Anointing of the Sick. Sacrament of Baptism: Baptisms will take place the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month with Fr. Erbacher or Deacon John. Call the Parish Office to make an appointment. Sacrament of Marriage: Parishioners who wish to be married at St. Mary Church are asked to contact the parish office six months prior to setting a date. This will provide time for prayer, preparation and paperwork. 3 St. Blaise and the Blessing of Throats - "Through the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and from every other illness: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, X and of the Holy Spirit" (Book of Blessings #1633). Two candles crossed and placed against the throat is what many of us remember from childhood. He was a bishop in Sebastea, Armenia, in the early part of the fourth century. He was martyred in AD 316. Even though Christianity was legalized by the Edict of Constantine in 311, religious persecution was still raging in Eastern Europe. As the myth is told, he had fled to the countryside and was living peacefully with the wild animals. Some hunters came upon his cave and found in kneeling in prayer with all the lions and wolves and other wild animals sitting by his side. The hunters bound him and took him to prison. On the way a woman presented her son to Bishop Blaise for him to heal him, he had a fish bone stuck in his throat. Upon Blaise's blessing, the boy coughed up the fish bone. Bishop Blaise eventually was killed for not worshipping the pagan gods of the region, and the story of Bishop Blaise's healing of the young boy became legend. His saint day in the Roman Church is February 3. Remember the faith of this saint each year and pray for blessings upon those who suffer from throat ailments. Moreover, always remember this blessing is a sign of our faith in God's protection and love for us and for the sick, and for those who need our prayers. St. John Bosco Youth Ministry St. John Bosco Catholic Youth Ministry reaches out to youth in grades 6 through 12 from St. Mary, Holy Family, Precious Blood, and St. Joseph. We will be going to Catholic Heart Work Camp, One Bread One Cup and Notre Dame Vision. Adult chaperones are needed for all trips. Deposit deadlines for these trips are February 15. 4 This Week s Parish Events Saturday & Sunday [02/03 & 02/04]: This weekend, there will be a Blessing of the Throats at every Mass. Father Erbacher will offer a communal blessing for everyone, but if you feel you need an individual blessing, come forward after Mass. Boy Scout Blue and Gold Mass at 4:30pm. Sunday School during the 10:00am Mass in the basement of the Social Hall. Monday [02/05]: Quilting in the rectory basement at 5:00pm. Servants of the Holy Spirit at 7:00pm in the Library. Just a reminder, when there is no school or a delay in school starting, there is no Mass, morning or evening. Tuesday [02/06]: Mass will be celebrated at 6:00pm. Choir Rehearsal at 6:30pm. Wednesday [02/07]: Quilting noon to 4:00pm in the rectory basement. St Anne s Sewing 6:00pm in the Rectory basement. Religion Classes for middle school students 6:00-7:00pm and high school students 7:15-8:15pm. Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, there will be no class - come to church with your family. Thursday [02/08]: St. Vincent de Paul Meeting in the Library at 6:30pm. Friday [02/09]: *We need volunteers to lead the Rosary before the 10:00am Mass. A lunch will be served - whether you have all day or just an hour or two, your help will be appreciated. New and experienced quilters are welcome! *The Cemetery Committee is looking for a volunteer to be on the Cemetery Committee. They meet about once a year and discuss issues or ideas about our cemetery or do work to keep our cemetery looking nice. Call the parish office for more information or if you are interested. *We are getting low on used ink and toner cartridges. Staples will give us $2 per cartridge up to 20 per month. The signup sheet and brochures with more information about the weekend can be found in the back of church. Men s CRHP will be March 3 and 4. Come prepared to have fun and renew your heart. The process centers around reflections by team members with small group discussions and activities. Mass is celebrated on Saturday and Sunday and Reconciliation is offered with our local priests. TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) will be here at St. Mary on February 17, 18 & 19. This weekend can make such a difference in the life of a young person. Adult candidates (typically those aged 23 and older) can also participate. You will meet youth and other adults from areas all around the Diocese and find out how God fits in your life. On February 15, Paraclete CEO (Catholic Evangelization Outreach) Ministries will be going in to Branchville Prison for a reward day for the inmates that have gone a year without an infraction.
