2 St. Mary Church Mass Schedule Saturday 4:30pm Sunday 7:00am & 10:00am Tuesday at 6:00pm Wednesday and Friday at 7:30am *When there is a funeral, there is no weekday morning scheduled Mass. Confession First Friday 6:45-7:10am Saturday 3:30-4:10pm *On Saturday when there is a wedding, there will be no confessions. Anointing of the Sick: If facing surgery, dealing with a chronic illness, serious accident or nearing the end of life, notify the parish office if you would like Fr. Erbacher to administer Anointing of the Sick. Sacrament of Baptism: Baptisms will take place the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month with Fr. Erbacher or Deacon John. Call the Parish Office to make an appointment. Sacrament of Marriage: Parishioners who wish to be married at St. Mary Church are asked to contact the parish office six months prior to their wedding date. 3 2018 Brute Society Nominations St Mary Parish is looking for nominations of parishioners to receive the Brute Award from this parish. Because of our size, we can have up to 3 individuals/couples win this award. Criteria for section should include: 1. A lifestyle that is in harmony with the teachings of the Catholic faith. 2. An exceptional commitment to the principles of good stewardship. This is usually shown over a period of time through selfless giving of time, talent, and/or treasure to the life and work of a parish. 3. An individual or couple whom fellow parishioners would be proud to have represent their parish by being accepted as members of The Brue Society. Please send or your nominations to Fr. Erbacher (jerbacher@evdio.org) or drop it off at the parish office. Nominations are due by August 24 and will be voted on at the August Parish Council meeting on August 28. Training for New Servers will be happening soon! If you are in grades 4th thru 8th grade and are currently not on the server s list, we would like to hold a training/information meeting to get some new servers ready to help Father with Mass. Call the parish office, , if you are interested. Current servers, we have had some servers miss their serving times. If you do not want to serve or would prefer a certain Mass time, call and let the parish office know. Thank you for your stewardship to our parish. St. Mary/Ireland K of C Men s Tourney Congratulations to the Dodgers for winning the tourney held July 28 and 29. The Orioles finished 2nd. St. John Bosco Youth Ministry St. John Bosco Catholic Youth Ministry reaches out to youth in grades 6 through 12 from St. Mary, Holy Family, Precious Blood, and St. Joseph. Help us design the roadmap for youth ministry in Our short evening will give an overview of youth ministry and how we need help with youth and behind the scenes for the upcoming school year. When did other denominations of faith begin? Among the Christian churches, only the Catholic Church has existed since the time of Jesus. Every other Christian church is an offshoot of the Catholic Church. The Eastern Orthodox churches broke away from unity with the pope in The Protestant churches were established during the Reformation, which began in (Most of today s Protestant churches are actually offshoots of the original Protestant offshoots.) Only the Catholic Church existed in the tenth century, in the fifth century, and in the first century, faithfully teaching the doctrines given by Christ to the apostles, omitting nothing. The line of popes can be traced back, in unbroken succession, to Peter himself. This is unequaled by any institution in history. The Catholic Church has existed for nearly 2,000 years, despite constant opposition from the world. This is testimony to the Church s divine origin. It must be more than a merely human organization, especially considering that its human members even some of its leaders have been unwise, corrupt, or prone to heresy. Any merely human organization with such members would have collapsed early on. The Catholic Church is today the most vigorous church in the world (and the largest, with a billion members: one sixth of the human race), and that is testimony not to the cleverness of the Church s leaders, but to the protection of the Holy Spirit. Bring your clean, priced items that you would like to donate to the back of the cafeteria. Proceeds will go to the new church fund. If you can volunteer, we could use help for set up and/or day of the sale. We are accepting aluminum cans as a fundraiser for the new church. Keep us in mind when you have your summer parties. Drop off your cans on the trailer in the parking lot. Upcoming Parish Events August 17 & 18: St. Mary Church Yard Sale. Proceeds will go toward the Building For Our Future campaign for the new church. Drop off your clean, priced items in the back of the cafeteria - do not leave outside the door. August 23: St. Mary Quilt Show, 11:00am-5:30pm in church September 9: St. Mary Church Picnic. Mass times for picnic weekend will be Saturday at 4:30pm and Sunday at 8:00am. There will be no 7:00am or 10:00am Mass on picnic Sunday. October 4: St. Anne Meeting - Game Night November 10-12: TEC (Teens Encounter Christ). Flyers for the Quilt Show can be found in the back of church. Help get the word out and put in area businesses and bulletin boards. Please send in your quilt donations, either to your group leader or to the parish office. Not on a group? Would you consider making a donation of $35 and being added to a group? You do not have to quilt or buy materials for a quilt, just make a donation and your name will be added to a group quilt. Any amount will be appreciated. Call the parish office for details. Remember the Country Store when making your jellies and relishes this summer. Small jars of homemade items sell really well at the picnic. We will store in the parish office if you want. Watch for summer closeouts on toys and other items that can be used in the Surprise Bag Stand. Check out the close out/ clearance aisles when you are shopping. Time to start thinking about our Theme Basket Stand. Start getting ideas to put together for your basket(s). If you own a business and are not on our grand raffle ticket, great way to include some of your items in a basket. Please have the value of your basket at $50+. **We are continuing to work on ways to transport our visitors from parking to the picnic grounds. We have contacted a golf cart rental place to get 10 carts but that will cost us over $3500. If you have a cart you will let us use or work at a business we can contact to have them lend us a cart for the day, please call the parish office so we can get you on a list. The USCCB Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities invites parishioners to join in a weekly moment of prayer from early August to late September for the legal protection of human life. Each Friday from now to September 28, we will have the opportunity to join in a nineweek effort of prayer, fasting and education that a change in the U.S. Supreme Court will move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life. As part of this USSCB Call to Prayer, participants can received weekly prayer reminders by text message or . In addition to the current invitation to fast on Fridays, participants will be encouraged to pray one Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be for this intention and will receive important facts about how Roe v.
