Sacrament of Marriage: Parishioners who wish to be married at St. Mary Church are asked to contact the parish office six months prior to setting a date. This will provide time for prayer, preparation and paperwork. Homebound Parishioners: Communion calls are made on Monday mornings to parishioners homes. 3 Something that might easily be taken for granted is our eye sight. It obviously has everything to do with our everyday life. In the gospel this weekend a blind man, is healed and receives his eye sight. It goes without saying this radically changed his entire life. He is able to see the world he lives in, other people and himself. He is also able to see the things that are both good and bad for him. He is able to stay clear of harmful foods and he may be able to see and approach someone who might be good to speak to; now he can see Jesus and approach him. Our physical sight is probably the greatest analogy we have in understanding our spiritual sight: being able to see our strengths and weakness, especially in regard to our life in Christ. To grow in holiness we need be able to see our challenges, faults and sinfulness. This is not always easy to do. Part of the evil of sin is that many times we are unable to see it because it also weakens our conscience. This happens when going a long time without the sacrament of confession. Prayer and especially confession allow us to see the faults and sins that we may not have been aware of in the past. Some things that might go overlooked are holding grudges or resentment toward another person, unhealthy or impure relationships, and avoiding prayer or missing Sunday Mass. The key to our Catholic faith is to be able to see further than the physical world and to be able to see the spiritual world that we live in. Saint John Vianney, the patron saint of Parish priests, has a famous quote: The eyes of this world see no further than this life but the eyes of a Christian see deep into eternity. Eternity refers also to our relationship with God. The blind man being healed halfway through the Gospel of John refers also to the disciples in John s gospel who were able to see more and more of what Jesus was doing. It also refers to our journey of being half way through Lent. We must communicate with God daily in order to see both what we need to correct or leave behind while being able to see more and more of what great things God wants to give us. The sacrament of confession is such a great gift that allows us to see clearing and thus enables us to come closer to Jesus Christ. In this sacrament we are completely cleansed of our sin in a way that we otherwise would not be. Jasper Deanery Penance Services March 15-4:00pm - St Ferdinand Church, Ferdinand March 24-6:30pm - St. Joseph Church, Jasper March 25 - Noon - St. Joseph Church Jasper St. Mary Preschool Since the beginning of Lent, our students have been involved in a service project along with Holy Family and Precious Blood students. We ve been collecting supplies such as nails, screws, tape measures, paint pans, paintbrushes, etc. for Habitat for Humanity. This past week the donated supplies from all three schools were given to a representative from Habitat of Dubois County. I was so touched by all of our families and students who contributed! Thank you for teaching your children the importance of giving back!! Ms. Lauren Total Transformation: Every Lent the Church encourages us to intensify the threefold practice of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in order to detach ourselves from the world and embrace the Gospel of Jesus Christ with greater passion and commitment. We are happy to host Splendor of Truth Ministries founder Dr. Nicholas Lebish for a biblical, spiritual, and practical study of this threefold path to holiness on Friday, March 20, from 7:00-8:30pm at Precious Blood Church (Endress Hall). Double Edged Sword: St. Jerome famously said, Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. We are happy to host Dr. Nicholas Lebish to learn how to get more out of reading Scripture our doubled edged sword, (Heb 4:12)!
