Sacrament of Baptism: The joy of having children is fully realized in their Baptism within the faith community. Call the Parish Office regarding Baptism appointments. Sacrament of Marriage: Parishioners who wish to be married at St. Mary Church are asked to contact the parish office six months prior to setting a date. This will provide time for prayer, preparation and paperwork. Homebound Parishioners: Communion calls are made on Monday mornings to parishioners homes. May God bless you on your special day. Congratulations!! The Diocesan Youth Leadership Team Presents the 2017 High School Youth Day! Everyone needs to get away every now and then, and usually we need that break during a time of chaos in our lives. The Diocesan Youth Day, ECHO, will be 10:30am-5:00pm (EST) on Saturday, May 13. It is planned to be a day long oasis for all high school youth of our diocese. We will focus on our spiritual lives within the physical world. Youth will experience Mass with Bishop Thompson, group activities and will hear the wisdom of Katie Prejean, a young woman who is nationally recognized for her humor and down to earth approach when sharing her faith with young people. St. Teresa Church in Evansville will host this great event. Cost will be $20/youth participant, $5/adult. Deadline to register with Angie Greulich is Friday, April 28. 3 In this week s bulletin, I wanted to share with you some information about a celebration we will be having the Sunday after Easter. The Second Sunday of Easter is observed as the Feast of Divine Mercy. What is this Feast? Divine Mercy was revealed through Christ to St. Faustina. St. Faustina was a member of the convent of the congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Krakow, Poland. Our Lord appeared to her bringing a wonderful message of mercy for all of mankind. Sister Faustina s diary cites the different visions she received and their messages. Jesus told St. Faustina that this Feast of Mercy would be a very special day when all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Christ made a great promise to all who would go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of His Mercy, now called Divine Mercy Sunday (The Sunday after Easter.) A plenary indulgence is granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of the Pope) to the faithful who, on Divine Mercy Sunday, in any church or chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection of sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy. You are allowed to go to confession 20 days before or after Divine Mercy Sunday to receive this indulgence. St. Mary s Men s Church Softball League - It is time to sign up for this summer s program. The league is open to men of the parish who are 16 years or older or any Ireland K of C member. If you were on a team roster last year, your team captain will contact you to see if you want to play this year. Anyone else that would like to join should call Fred Boehm at Those wishing to play on the softball field must have their own personal insurance coverage. If an injury occurs, the Diocese of Evansville & St. Mary Church will not be liable for medical costs. A waiver must be signed by everyone participating in our softball league, especially those under the age of 18. St. John Bosco Catholic Youth Ministry is a collaborative effort between Holy Family Parish, Precious Blood Parish, St. Joseph Parish and St. Mary Parish and is for middle and high school teens. On the weekend of the March 25th and 26th, I made the announcement of my upcoming health leave. I am grateful for the support so many of you have shown. Several had asked the parish office about what was said. So, I asked it be in this week s bulletin so you can read what I said at each of the Masses. During the past few months, several of you came to me expressing you don t know how I am doing it. I recall a wise parishioner telling me Father, you have a lot to juggle. I am worried and I pray for you. I have been under a lot of acute stress. It is a challenging to pastor not just two, but two of the larger parishes in the Diocese, both connected to the merging of the three schools. One building a new Church. Working through two capital campaigns. Also, I have had deaths in my family and my immediate family had some major health concerns. The demands of ministry at an ordinary pace can be challenging. Despite the challenges together we have and continue to accomplish much, I am grateful for this and all of you. In mid-june, after seeing St. Mary through their Campaign, I am going to be stepping back for a while to address some health and wellbeing needs. I will be leaving active ministry to go on health leave. The Diocese supports me in this. In June, St. Mary and Precious Blood will no longer be linked. A new Pastor will be named for St. Mary Parish. He is intended and will be able to focus more time on the building of the new Church. During my absence, an administrator will oversee Precious Blood Parish and someone will serve as temporary Priest Delegate for Holy Trinity Catholic School. When I became Pastor at each Parish and Priest Delegate of the School; I expressed we walk together on this journey of Faith. Right now, I need to go off, as we read in Scripture, Jesus would go off to reflect, pray and recharge, during His ministry. I need to recharge. Know of my love and support for all of you. I will keep you in my daily prayers, humbly I ask you to do the same. When I return, I will be at Precious Blood and Holy Trinity Catholic School. In the end, this is a good thing. A good thing for you and a good thing for me. A good thing for us. Thank you and God bless you. Confessions begin at 2:00pm with Service beginning at 3:00pm. A Pre-Service Rosary will begin approximately 20 minutes before service time. A dinner will immediately follow Vocation Chalice - A different family each week takes home the Vocation Chalice and a binder containing prayers and vocation stories of priests, religious, deacons and seminarians to pray for vocations. Loving God, Pub I Cemetery News: The mowing crew will begin mowing soon. Items must be attached to the stone or removed from the area. We will have volunteers going through the cemetery and removing anything that is a mowing hazard. Items removed will be put in the gazeebo for you to pick up. Please help us keep our cemetery looking beautiful. We do not want to make anyone mad, but the condition of the cemetery is important to many, many families. Please be respectful. We thank You for the gift of St. Mary Parish and for those who came before us that built the foundation for the faith community we have today. We look forward to building for our future according to Your will, and we pray that You send Your Holy Spirit to guide us as we embark on this new phase of our parish growth. The St Vincent de Paul Store, Jasper, needs a part time employee to sort clothing and other items as needed. This person would work Tuesday thru Thursday most weeks, some weeks may require work on Friday. Candidate must be able to lift donated items out of bins and move bins as needed. Ability to cross train as cashier would be helpful. Our employees are not permitted to purchase and resell donated items. Applications are available at the store in Jasper.
