Sacrament of Marriage: Parishioners who wish to be married at St. Mary Church are asked to contact the parish office six months prior to setting a date. This will provide time for prayer, preparation and paperwork. Homebound Parishioners: Communion calls are made on Monday mornings to parishioners homes. 3 Dear Parish Family, This week, I asked the school children, How can we give our best to God? They responded by praying and talking to Him. It is rather simple. If we want to go to heaven, don t you think we should get to know God and spend time with Him? After all, if He gave His life for all of us. I think we can at least spend one hour a week with Him. The Blessed Sacrament must always be adored when exposed. We as Catholics believe the Blessed Sacrament can never be exposed and left alone. That is one reason why we need to have all hours filled at the Divine Providence Adoration Chapel. Why adore 24 hours/7 days a week? I can not tell you how many people call or stop by the Church and want to pray during a crisis. Unfortunately most churches are locked up and if they are open the Eucharist is not exposed where you can see our God, literally. Another question is, If someone has already signed up for an hour can I still go? Yes! That is why we recently renovated the Chapel. It now holds around 15 people. I have been there when I am the only one, I have been there also when 5 others joined me or 10 others joined me. Some have asked, Can I go and just pay a visit? Sure, some people stop by before going to work, offer a few prayers and then head off to work. Some times as I go to meet a staff member in the Parish Center, I stop by the Chapel say a short pray and go on my way. It is a simple hello to Jesus. Many people have asked Can more than one person be assigned to an hour? Again yes. This allows additional back up and there is always strength in numbers and that includes prayers!! There is a team of laity from across Dubois County that helps run the Divine Providence Chapel and coordinate all of the hours. Each day one or two people are responsible for making certain the hours are filled. They help those signed get substitutes if necessary. If there is a particular problem, they field the questions and if needed I deal with it upon their request. If you would like to sign up to be the second person for an hour, contact Bonnie Meadows at , ext 240. Let the words Jesus spoke to His Apostles rest in our hearts, Can t you spend one hour with me? When we do spend time with Him, Jesus rewards us with a grace and protection that cannot be compared. I am already amazed of the blessing God has sent for this Chapel. Many people in the surrounding area have been kind and generous. I have received many s, phone calls, notes and words of encouragement and thanks from people in the Dubois County area. St. Anne s Angel Tree is up and full of ornaments. This year we are helping adults in a handicap home and families and children in need. Buy as much or as little as you want off of the ornament and bring to the parish office unwrapped. The deadline for bringing in your gifts is December 5th. Bountiful Blessings! The Thanksgiving Day Feast Pie Brigade needs your help. We are expecting to feed people through delivery, pick-up, and eat-in meals. Pumpkin, apple, cherry, sugar free, or whatever you wish to make or buy - but please no pies that need refrigeration. Please deliver to St. Joseph Parish Center, Jasper, from noon on Tuesday, November 22 through Wednesday, November 23 at 5:00pm. There is a yellow sign up sheet in the back of church if you can help. We can all pitch in together to make a memorable Thanksgiving Day Feast for our family, friends and neighbors. Year of Mercy Project Our Confirmation young adults are selling chances on this bench. $1 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5. All proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity and the Humane Society. Tickets can also be purchased in the parish office. St Mary is seeking to fill a temporary secretarial position to assist with our new church fundraising campaign. The position will run from December through June, approximately hours per week. Duties include assisting with campaign communications; organizing various meetings and events; tracking enlistment and solicitation assignments and results, campaign commitments, income and expenses; maintenance of campaign records and files; and production of various reports. Qualified candidates must be computer savvy and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Access and Publisher), a pleasing and positive personality and excellent communication skills and should be willing to work a flexible schedule with some evenings and weekend work required. Engaged Encounter is a weekend experience with other engaged couples that affords time alone together to plan for sacramental marriage. Trained facilitators will lead the program on February 11 and 12, April 29 and 30 or September 17 and 18 at the Sarto Retreat Center. Last year, we received over 1000 new and used coats, and also had money donated to purchase extra coats in the sizes that we normally struggle to get donated.
