This coming year, we will have 2 CRHP weekends: February 8 & 9, 2014 will be for the Women; March 1 & 2, 2014 will be for the Men. 3 Dear Parishioners, As we prepare for our Parish Picnic I ask that you do three things. First pray, second invite family and friends and finally volunteer. I will roll up the shirt sleeves, sweat a little and help out. Our Parish Picnic is our largest fundraising event. It is through these efforts that we are able to do the ministry we do here at St Mary. I encourage you to do the same roll up your shirt sleeves and get involved. Below is the picnic prayer please keep that in your home and pray it as we prepare. We pray this after communion at Mass seeking God s grace upon our Picnic. I hope that we have more people, more quilts, more food, more profits and a whole lot of FUN!! Join us on September 8 and spread the word, invite your family and friends to our Picnic. Summer Picnic Prayer Father, we give you praise and Heavenly thanksgiving for all that you have given us. We look forward to a day for worship, work, fellowship and good times. Our prayer at this time of year, when we come together for our Parish Picnic, is to ask you to bless our gathering with your beautiful sunshine. We pray for a good response from our workers, parishioners, and your whole community of faith. We ask you to guide us to do the very best to make our picnic a success. We place our faith in your hands, through Christ our Lord, Amen. Father Gary Picnic News/Updates Time to start thinking about Theme Baskets for the picnic. We are hoping for some new and different ideas. Maybe a gift card basket from area merchants. Go together with co-workers and get lots of different cards. How about a: sports memorabilia basket? an entertainment basket? maybe a dinner party basket? sports game tickets? Just a few ideas. You can drop your donation off at the parish office. Thanks for the donations we have received so far. Surprise Bag Booth: Needed for our parish picnic 700 items 10 cents to $10. New or like new items. Place in marked container in church vestibule or bring to the parish office. For more information, call Pat Bohnenkamper or Mary Ann Robling Like to look for bargains? We are looking for items for our Novelty Stand at picnic. If you are in the clearance or $1 aisle and see something a young kid would love to have, pick it up. Could be kid s tattoos, young girl s jewelry, bubbles, big candy bars, small toy trucks, etc. Just no squirt guns. Drop them off at the parish office. Quilt Donations: Please send in your $30 donation to the parish office as soon as possible. Quilt group leaders, please collect from the people in your group and bring it to the parish office. Country Store: That time of the year when your berries/fruits are ripening. They are needed for the homemade items sold at the Country Store. Clean and put in gallon bags and we will freeze and store them at the parish office. Nuts, flour, sugar and new pie pans and small bread loaf pans are needed too. The Country Store does a lot of baking the Saturday before picnic and these homemade items are a big hit at picnic time. Catechist Corner Our Religious Ed Program continues to grow each year. With the number of kids we have attending on Tuesday during the day and Wednesday evening, we could really use a few more Catechist. The lesson plans are simple and spending time with our youth is very rewarding. Please think about being part of this parish ministry. Any extra directories we end up with will be sold at a later date. Catholic Social Teaching Economic justice begins in our homes and families, in our individual choices and households. Unless we teach our children basic values of honesty, compassion, and initiative, they will not be equipped to deal with the counter values of selfishness, consumerism, and materialism so prevalent in our society. We renew our pastoral s call for believers to shape their choices in the marketplace and public arena according to the values of the Scriptures and the moral principles of the Catholic Church. Catholic s Divorce Survival, Friday, August 16-November 8, 6:30-8:30pm. A new 12 week session will begin in August for Catholics seeking healing from divorce. Through the weekly sessions, the DVD series will help you discover how to work through the emotions of separation and divorce, experience personal healing and hope, gain wisdom and comfort from others who share your experience, address questions of forgiveness and new family dynamics, obtain an understanding of the annulment, process, and more! A local Catholic has purchased the rights to the film but is permitted to have only one public screening. The film will be played only once at Showplace Cinemas East, Evansville, at 4:15pm on Sunday, August 11. The tickets will be $7 at the door, available from 3:00-4:00pm.
