3 Catechist Corner Wow!! What an amazing week we had here at St. Mary s Vacation Bible School. A huge thank you goes out to all the volunteers who helped over 260 kids learn about God s never ending love and His ultimate plan for each of us. We were blessed with so many volunteers, starting with some very talented skit people who acted out the stories of Moses life each day, a fantastic group of ladies who helped the kids make prayer journals and some other neat projects, a few great musicians who taught the kids the words and hand motions to some inspiring songs, and very energetic gamers who provided safe and fun exercises for the kids. Our snack crew kept the kids appetite satisfied with fun and nutritious snacks, the young ladies who took good care of the toddlers so their mothers could help in other areas, along with a lot of fantastic group leaders who were able to keep all the kids on schedule as they moved from station to station. Also, we had some very caring nurses who took care of all the little accidents that occurred throughout the week and all those who donated items to help us keep within our budget. But most of all I thank God for sending down His blessings upon us so that we were all able to experience yet another successful Vacation Bible School. God Bless, Martha Help Us Get Ready for September 8, 2013 Picnic Sunday Before long, it will be picnic time and we all know our homemade quilts are a big reason that people come and stay on picnic day. We are lucky enough to have dedicated volunteers who quilt on Mondays and Wednesdays and also in their homes. Would you be willing to get 11 family members, neighbors or friends together to donate $30 a piece to buy material and have a quilt quilted for our picnic? You do not have to quilt or even buy a quilt, we will take care of that. All of your names will be attached to the finished quilt and displayed at the quilt show and picnic day. Call Sherri or Dianne at the parish office, , for more information. We will be making phone calls to parishioners who are not currently on the quilt list. If you are currently on a quilt group, send your donation in at any time and mark it quilt donation. St Vincent de Paul - Help us help others by shopping at the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store or donating your excess clothing, household items, knick knacks and usable furniture. Money raised at the SVDP thrift store is used by our local conferences to help local people in need. You and your family are invited to attend Mass with Father Ray Brenner at the St. Thomas Chapel Tuesday, June 18, at 7:00am. Father Ray offers Mass on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00am. We encourage you to support this collection which will be distributed through Catholic Charities. If you want to write a check, please make it payable to Catholic Charities of Evansville. Time to start thinking about theme baskets for the picnic. We are hoping for some new and different ideas. Maybe a gift card basket from area merchants. Go together with co-workers and get lots of different cards. How about a: sports memorabilia basket? an entertainment basket? maybe a dinner party basket? sports game tickets? Just a few ideas. You can drop it off at any time. TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) is a three-day experience for young people who are searching for goals, for acceptance, for meaning, and for community. Teens can expect to meet youth from other areas of the Diocese, find how God fits in your life, and encounter the Risen Jesus Christ. You will have time to reflect on your life, ideas, hopes, and dreams away from home, school, and/or work. It requires action to confront structures of injustice that leave people poor. Create Your Own Catholic Legacy Did you know that your family can create a Legacy for your parish by establishing a permanent endowment? With a minimum gift of $5,000, you can name the endowment to honor or memorialize someone while providing income forever to your parish. Currently, St. Mary s has 2 endowments that you can add to at any time: Msgr Carl Shetler Endowment and St. Mary Catholic Church, Ireland Endowment. Proceeds from these endowments come to our parish to be used as needed. One avenue you might want to consider is to start an endowment that will benefit our cemetery. We have a beautiful cemetery that we want to make sure is taken care for many years to come. We do not receive as many memorials as we used to and it takes a lot to keep our cemetery looking nice.
