3 Dear Parishioners, Last Sunday we celebrated Good Shepherd Sunday. The First Communicants received the Eucharist for the first time. Prom and Graduation is right around the corner. It is spring and we certainly see new life and changes taking place. As I reflect upon those receiving the sacraments, I encourage all of us to think about those who help teach us the great gift of our faith. Our parents, God parents, teachers, aunts and uncles who help us learn to pray, bring us to Mass each of them should receive our gratitude. I ask all of you to think of those who have helped you upon your journey of faith and offer a prayer for them today. This time of year it is easy to reflect upon the changes taking place within us as we see so many changes taking place on the outside. The flowers are blooming and the trees are turning green. It reminds us of new life. Nature is a place that I feel God s presence. It is an amazing sight. However those who make their living in the outdoors often take risks. As we hear of the Mississippi, Wabash and White Rivers all at flood stage, I recall many years rushing to get the crops out before the river would take them. Often we would help relatives and friends move out of the river bottom area. Let us keep in our prayers those who are affected by the effects of nature and those who earn their living by working in the outdoors. Let us be aware of the many changes that take place both internally and externally. In our awareness, know that all changes are from God. As life develops and changes let us work upon our relationship with God and remain open to the many blessings He brings to us and respect the crosses he gives us to helps us grow. Fr. Gary Catechist Corner This weekend, we will have 51 children receiving the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time. We as Catholics believe that just like we eat food to nourish our physical bodies, we receive communion to nourish and keep our soul strong enough to keep following God and resist the temptations and deceptions of our enemy. The Eucharist is spiritual nourishment. The stronger our soul is the more likely we are to build a relationship with God, to stay close to God, and trust in Him. Please pray these young children will continue to open their eyes to see God, open their ears to hear God and open their hearts to love God. Venture Crew 185 annual Schnitzelbank Fundraiser on April 28, 10:30am-1:00pm. This will be drive through only. Fried chicken, pulled pork dinners include German fries, baked beans and slaw for $9. Also, a bratzel sandwich with sauerkraut and German fries for $7. Music Ministry - YOU are invited! On May 7, St. Mary and Precious Blood music ministers will come together for a Song Leader s Workshop. We will meet at St. Mary Church at 6:30pm. Anyone currently serving as a cantor, or who sings in an ensemble should attend. We will focus on the new Mass setting we will use, learn new songs for the summer Sundays and brush up on our song leading skills. If you are interested in music ministry at either parish and have been thinking about sharing your time and talent, please come. Thanks Gregory DuPont Music Director St. Mary Church, Precious Blood Church St. Mary Preschool - Chalk Box Did you know there were two holidays this week? We celebrated Earth Day (which was on Monday) and Arbor Day (which was on Friday)! The trend to be more green has been popular for quite awhile now, and we wanted to pass on some knowledge to our preschoolers of how they can be green too! If we all did even just a little more to take care of our earth, it would be advantageous for us now and for the generations to come! We learned about simple changes we can make such as reducing paper usage, turning off lights, planting trees, and recycling. Forester Scott gave a tree to each of our Year 1 preschoolers and taught them some of the many benefits trees provide to us. We also learned about littering and the effects it can have on our earth and its living creatures. Dear Servers, Each year we try to do something as a Parish to thank you for your service around the Altar. Since I was a server, Holiday World has offered to Parishes in the Diocese discounted tickets. We are grateful for their generosity. This year, we have an option to have a pool party at the Jasper Pool or go to Holiday World. Both Precious Blood and St. Mary will attend the event. They require us to rethink the path which we are travelling together. Where Do Your Kids Spend Their Time? Child safety tip: You can help keep your children safe by knowing where they spend their time. Get to know the adults who show up at the various locations in the community where children gather and where they play together. Be wary of any adult who seems more interested in creating a relationship with a child than with other adults. Pay attention when an adult seems to single out a particular child for a relationship or for special attention. Warning signs include treats, gifts, vacations, or other special favors offered only to one specific child. St Vincent de Paul - Help us help others by shopping at the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store or donating your excess clothing, household items, knick knacks and usable furniture. Money raised at the SVDP thrift store is used by our local conferences to help local people in need.
