Sacrament of Baptism: The joy of having children is fully realized in their Baptism within the faith community. Call the Parish Office regarding Baptism appointments. First time parents, please stop by and pick up a baptism video. Sacrament of Marriage: Parishioners who wish to be married at St. Mary Church are asked to contact the parish office six months prior to setting a date. This will provide time for prayer, preparation and paperwork. Homebound Parishioners: Communion calls are made on Monday mornings to parishioners homes. Call the parish office if you would like a visit from our Eucharistic Minister. Gift Bearers: If you would like to carry up the gifts during Mass, please let the Ushers know. 3 Dear Parishioners, We will celebrate our town s Bicentennial August Please join the many festivities including the old Irish Fashion Show, Quilt Show, Pioneer Demonstrations, Antique Farm Machinery Show, Lumber Jack Show, Food booths, the Beer Garden, kids games and Live Music. The many festivities allow us to show off our amazing community, celebrate our heritage and have some fun with family, friends and guests. If you are on Facebook please like and share the video inviting others to join us. I want to thank all the Bicentennial Committee members for their hard work in the preparation of this remarkable celebration. Also thanks to the many volunteers who will make this another successful Ireland event. I look forward to seeing you. We got Fr. Simon to row in the Regatta. Help us get the word out about our picnic and quilt show. Take a flyer and post around Ireland and other areas in and out of the county. Quilt Show will be August 30, 11:00am to 6:30pm. Please drop off your finished quilt so we can get them ready for the show. Don t forget to send in your quilt donations to your group leader or to the parish office. If you are not on a group, would you consider making a donation of $35 and being added to a group? You do not have to quilt or buy materials, just make a donation and your name will be added to a group. Can t give $35? Any amount will be appreciated. Call the parish office for details. Country Store - It is that time of year for fresh fruits. We will gladly freeze any fruits (blueberries, peaches, blackberries, etc.) that you would like to donate for the picnic. These are great for the fresh items that are baked for picnic day. Homemade jams and salsa are always a big hit. You can bring them to the parish office at any time and we will store them for the picnic. Surprise Bag Booth - Needed for our parish picnic, 700 items $.25 to $10. New or like new. If your time is limited, you can make a cash donation to the Surprise Bag Booth and we will do the shopping for you. Items may be dropped off at the parish office or in the container in the back of church. For more info, call Pat Bohnenkamper at or Mary Ann Robling at Some suggestions: chalk, color crayons, match box cars, stuffed animals, kites, small toys, books, etc Theme Baskets - Time to start thinking about baskets for the picnic. We always have great baskets - this booth is a huge hit at the picnic. The value of the basket should be at least $25 - car kits, craft baskets, game baskets, Worker s Lists need to be finalized as soon as possible. Stand chairmen, please contact your workers to make sure they can help picnic Sunday. There are a few stands that are in need of additional volunteers. If you can help for a couple of hours and do not already have a stand you work in, call the office, we can use your help. High school boys would be greatly appreciated. Southwestern Indiana Child Advocacy Center Coalition (SWICACC) provides a safe reporting location for children that are victims of abuse. The organization works with community based multi-disciplinary teams to provide support, promote justice, and help prevent violence. SWICACC is the only organization that provides child advocacy services within the seven county region. They conducted 280 interviews in 2015 and 170+ so far in Please support this organization to ensure quality services for our children. The annual SWICACC Rick Magill Memorial 5K fundraiser is September 17th. ValLimar is a highly regarded singer, composer and recording artist. A free will offering will benefit three local organizations that work with the poor. Catechist Formation Day will be held Saturday, August 27 from 8:00am to 2:00pm CST at the Catholic Center. ValLimar Jansen will Proclaim Jesus Message of Mercy and Hope through storytelling, song and witness. Middle School events are coming! On Tuesday, August 23, at the Train Depot in Jasper, from 6:00-7:30pm, I will be hosting the first annual St. John Bosco Adult Youth Ministry Team Extravaganza. All past and present adult volunteers need to attend this event to learn about the goals of the Bosco program and to sign up for either the CORE Team, the Indirect Youth Ministry Team or the Direct Youth Ministry Team. I will have light appetizers for all to enjoy. This is the best time for New volunteers to learn more about this ministry and see how they want to help. On Monday, August 22 the Crave group will be starting another 6 week Bible Study - all are welcome to join us. We will be meeting at 6:15pm in the parish rectory (house across from the church). This upcoming segment will be The Bible and The Virgin Mary. Learn why we refer to Mary as the New Eve - the Ark of the Covenant and the Queen mother. This study also examines Catholic doctrine with regard to the Blessed Mother. You will learn why we go to Mary with our intercessions. There is a sign up sheet in the back of church with lots of time slots to be filled. Please consider volunteering for a few hours to help our parish and make Ireland s Bicentennial a huge success. Sign-up to work 2-3 hours for one day. Contact Chris Weisman at or sign up at one of our meetings. St Vincent de Paul is looking for a part time employee to work hours per week sorting donations. This person would have to lift donations out of the black carts and sort them. They would also like to train this person to be a back-up cashier. This fall, we will be seeding/ reseeding some of the graves and good soil would really be helpful. With all the current heavy rains, several of the graves have really settled. Stop by the parish office if you are interested. St. John the Baptist Catholic Folk Choir will be at the Ireland Historical Chapel on Saturday, August 27.
